@@everettstormy guess you havent heard about the new trucks that cant be emission tested for so many hours after a “regen” because it wont pass emissions or the fact during regen there is toxic def being burned at such high temperatures that cars have had the bumpers melted and paint blistered up on the trucks that are running. Lets not even mention the hundreds/thousands of non emission equiptment used over seas to mine the ore, non or minimal emission trucks that haul it to the ports, ships that use junk fuel to ship it over then whats required to just make the DPF on these newer trucks that still has shit for fuel milage compared to a deleted and tuned truck that gains a minimum of 20% more HP/tq minimum. Tuned and deleted trucks have passed emissions without the $10-$20k+ emission equiptment thats a constant problem and maintenance nightmare to owners world wide, if you dont believe me just look back at the cost of Chris’s lost revenue and thousands he has spent on the ex and dozer sitting on that job. Thats just 1 persons loss, dont get me wrong newer non emission is much cleaner and is sufficient for off road equiptment but i dont believe the ole EPA used any regen data toxicity reports into their claims of “cleaner” engines

Old iron like Betty likes a little snort of “start you bastard” in the morning to quote Jay Paydirt, it’s kind of like having an eye opener the morning after that big night on the town when you broke the rule about doing shots of tequila. You know the one that say one is enough, two is to many, and three is never enough. The trick I am told is knowing how much is just enough and not a drop more. Besides if you work as hard and as many years as Betty you would probably need a kick in the chest to get your motor running too.😅😂🥲

@@joedennison2972 DEF became required on most diesel cars and trucks built since 2010 (Obama years). Emissions control was in effect in the early 70s. I had a 1973 mustang with emission crap on it.

I work for an equipment manufacturer and it takes years for engine manufacturers to develop their solution to meet the requirement. Then we need time to develop our products to accept the new engine and system (adding tanks and the electrical & warning systems, etc.) On top of that there were deadlines for when you had to have compliant products in place. Just be happy they have left gasoline powered emission levels alone for quite some time.
What a great asset Betty is - she can move mountains with ease, give hours of enjoyment to the operator and flatten drink containers to oblivion. That flying saucer size double stump was a beauty. Love this video.
Clay color in North Carolina are caused by various iron oxides. Red clay has large amounts of hematite. Gray clay has large amounts of hydromagnitite. Gray clay is a sign of moisture saturation and low oxygen. Red clay is a sign of hot soil with lots of oxygen. The blacker a soil the more organic material it contains. That being said, gray clay is a sign of water logging and low oxygen, could be a sign of ground water near by.

One of my uncles had two older D8 Cats. He and my dad built miles of levies to prevent soil erosion on the sloped farmland of eastern Oregon. Watching this video reminds me of time riding with them and learning how to operate equipment. All of those levies are still in great condition after 45 years. Thanks for the great videos Chris.

It is so satisfying to see someone bring back an old machine they ran when they were little. I still have the backhoe and dozer I ran when I was 12 I am now 37. I have been in local 3 operating engineers since 2007 in California. I help rebuild the Oroville dam that broke in 2017. I was there 2 days after it broke Stayed for over 2 years I still live 1 minute away from the dam. Still doing awesome thank you local 3 for keeping my community safe

Growing up our neighbor had a 977h and I spent many a weekend in a dump truck with my dad hauling dirt for him. His had standard bucket and 4 scoops to a truck full. His was straight piped also and the sound of that 6 cyl purring sure brings back alot of memories of my head hung out the door of that old Ford just watching the big cat go back and forth
Was laughing go hard when you ran over the DEF bottle. Betty don't play that. The over the shoulder view of you operating Betty is great, we can see how busy you are with the various levers and control. Glad you saved Betty and added her to your fleet.
Ran a 977L & 955L for many years, they like to be run throttle wide open.. Chris is a good operator on it. 977's biggest flaw is the undercarriages can't keep up with the power and weight. That machine may be slow and steady but it will outlast all of the 973's out there today
Love that old Cat. The function how it can go from track loader and then the bucket becomes a blade is a neat feature. I've operated underground loaders that were CAT Elphinstone and those muckers has push or EOD plates within the bucket where they'd eject the payload into trucks in confinded areas. Man those beasts would dig with their spade buckets

I’m 62 and have always run a Ford 4 stick. I’m not a regular dirt guy, just a very part time operator. I rented a TB240 for the first time and man do I admire you and the Dirt guy even more! Quick learning curve!!! Love the ability of the machine!! Excavators are so awesome with their range of things you can do. I’ve been digging stumps and leveling driveways and the excavator makes it easier. Skidstear would be a bonus. Really like your work and the Dirt guy Too.
I think this could be a regular feature of Betty videos….could add suspense, what will she crush this time. People could send in all kinds of suggestions and we would anxiously watch to find out what it was. Only limit is people’s imagination. 🤪

If she's addicted, you have lost your compression. Rehab may include more than injectors.

Flip the stump over when you place it in the pond so that the roots are facing upward. It makes much better fish habitat than burying the roots.

When I excavate those clays in NZ they are always saturated with water. We call it blue pug. That clay was remarkably dry.
