A couple of years ago I picked up the Ryobi 40v earth auger. It cost more, but I don't need to deal with another small engine. I needed several 10in holes in tight quarters and didn't think my impact would work for that and my little tractor is too awkward to get the PTO auger into those spaces. Since using the 40v auger, I've come to really like it. Light, powerful, has reverse, and if it hangs up on a root or a rock it stops twisting as the handles jerk hard, avoids banging me up. It uses the standard auger bits, so I've picked up a couple more sizes. I need to do some 6x6 posts in concrete and I may pick up a 12in or even 14in auger for that. I think in my ground it would drill it, but might be really heavy to handle.
Ahhhh, Princess Auto saves the day again! They have some handy stuff and this looks like a good deal. Great if you have good topsoil but a bummer if you have rock. I like the pilot hole idea to see if it is clear of rocks first. In cartoons, you always see someone spinning around on one of these LOL I hope you remember to let go if it jams up on something.
I like the idea of a removable/sharpenable cutting edge on the auger bit. About 15 years ago I built a new fence, me and the step son dug out the post holes with a rented auger from HD. He's about 250 and I was around 190lbs and the auger would spin us both around. Where my house was used to be a lake 100 years ago and 2 inches down is hard clay with roots and rocks as big as your head. I had to use a huge bar to break the rocks up. I hired a guy with a skidsteer mounted auger to do the other side lol What's the difference between a dirt auger bit and one for ice?
How's she goin'? That sure looks like a nice auger Steve. Good idea to for getting the smaller one for the 'pilot' hole too!! You can tell you dug fence post holes before!! Thanks for the video and take 'er easy!!
Picked myself up one of these from PA. Best $99 bucks ever spent!
Yes and last a lifetime 👍
Good tip on the pilot hole 👍

I wouldn't use this unit if there's rocks and roots . Ice augers have a different cutting blade at the bottom but the rest is the same.
relief hole first is always a good plan price wiss great investment if you need it
Yes sir so much easier with a pilot hole . Cheers 👍
Great tip on the pilot hole and adapting it to a hand drill!👍
These work great for smaller jobs. Cheers 👍
You can't beat the price, Steve. It's good to know it's a decent rig also.
Hi Kenny
