This is great! Seems similar to a Uni Knot - but those always slip all the way down. Does it keep from sliding bc of the thicker diameter & pulling on the tag end (vs. standing end)? Thanks for the consistently great content!

I need to try the Duncan Loop Knot. Ever try using a nail-knot to attach a fly to tippet? Make your loop, then two wraps. I used to use a round toothpick, as a 'nail,' now I just wing-it. A nail-knot is non-sacrificial to the fatter mono, if the fatter mono is terminated with a double-overhand knot. Just hold the tag of the fatter mono with smooth hemostats (I dress mine with a honing stone), and pull the thinner section away from the double overhand, and clip the nail-knot kind-of close. Much better, for strength, than clinch knots, or blood knots for building leader.

Hi Brian, I've started using the Duncan loop over the no slip loop knot on 16lb tippet with 6 turns for redfish and I am very happy with how clean and strong the Duncan Loop comes out in comparison. I've recently become interested in Flip Pallot's system of leaders with cutting off the fly line loop and snelling the butt of the leader to the fly line. I'm noticing now that you've mentioned a few times that you can preserve the end of your fly line by using a Duncan loop to loop connection in the middle of the leader so that once that portion of the leader starts to get short, you can interchange a new tippet section without cutting into the butt section and inevitably, having to re-snell a new leader to the end of the fly line. Is there a video that describes the Duncan loop to loop portion of this leader system? I looked through the channel but didn't come across those details, or maybe I just missed it.

@@michaelshuman3319 from Google: Duncan Loop Knot vs Uni Knot If you are wondering what the difference is between the Duncan Loop vs Uni Knot, there is actually no difference with the exception of the name. The Duncan Loop or Duncan Knot was originally named after Norman Duncan who developed the fishing knot in the early 1960s.
