I have friends that work in the medical field.. it's the reason why I take care of myself so much.
100%. I work I a healthcare setting. So not a hospital but in a group home for seniors with intellectual disabilities. And covid has come through our home twice, we’ve had many, many scares, lots of isolation periods, someone died, unrelated to covid but we couldn’t mourn together or take turns supporting them in the hospital. So me and another staff were the only ones allowed in so we spent a week watching her die. I mean the list goes on. The trauma and ptsd that this last year has caused me is going to keep my counsellor busy for years. So I can only imagine how hospital staff who feel with this on a great scale feel.

Actually, I personally know 8 people now (a new case pops up at my job weekly it seems) who had covid and when asked how they felt, they ALL said it felt like they had a bad case of the Flu! So maybe that's where people are getting this from? 3 coworkers have had family members die, but all 3 family members had diabetes whereas my coworkers who got Covid didn't have any health issues. They're all back at work like nothing happened. It's a strange virus, that's to be sure and why people need to be more conscious of their health and activities when they live with relatives with health problems.

Its ok to cry. You witness this every day. My husband does too and trust me, he comes home many days from the hospital and cries. You wanna do everything you can and yet you feel completely helpless. Its how I feel every morning when I see my husband off to work, knowing he could catch the virus. Knowing he hasn't been given the vaccines that our state promised him.

However, there was an NPR story I heard a few years back where this guy was talking about compartmentalizing your life and being 100% present at what you are doing. There is a time to immerse yourself in grief and a time to immerse yourself in joy.
I think there should be therapy provided to all the reporters who have experience this kind of mental trauma... This country needs therapy for what has happened to us.

Alicia, I'm 73 and have severe asthma. I, too, have been isolated for most of the past eight months. My grandchildren are in and out of school, which opens and closes repeatedly. I haven't seen my son, either. They're all I have in the world. Covid is a lonely, painful, suffocating death, so I prefer to stay isolated while I wait for my vaccine. My Dad is in a hospital fighting for his life from COVID-19 and although he doesn’t have it he is still in there on the ventilator. My Mom and my whole family and friends are trying to help but it’s hard to watch one of your own family members go through this and I have seen so many nurses staff, doctors, and respiratory therapists go in and help and I can only see my dad on video for a little bit before I start crying. Because I’m not used to that and I can’t imagine anyone like this.

He passed away on January 18th and he did have COVID but at the end his lungs and his heart stopped working and he died in front of me and he fought for 58 days. If you seen what I’ve saw. You would do anything to get your family back home safe and sound. So I pray that someday everything will get better and get back to normal.
Sara, as a working Covid (and non-Covid) Registered Nurse, I applaud you for your bravery in reporting, my gosh, I haven't cried at work (held it in), but I am sobbing with you now, you have a beautiful heart, do not apologize for it, you're helping many, thank you for saving lives as well!

Talk show hosts can have heart... those who are getting paid millions, while most Americans are out of work, to report news should be able to do that job without falling to pieces.. ON AIR. Imagine all of the nurses having to watch their patients slowly get worse every day no matter how hard they try. I see their chest X-ray’s every day and that’s hard enough.

Seeing her break shows you a glimpse of what our Healthcare workers are going through! My pop didn't even get a funeral. He laid in a truck morgue for weeks before he was collected and cremated 2 months after his death. All 6' 2" of 78 years worth of life, drama and love with so many laughs. The empathy displayed here tugged at every string my heart. She's overwhelmed by grief that is playing out collectively. Those are my tears too.

You brought tears to my eyes. COVID has robbed so many of so much. It really is difficult to find words to describe. We see loved ones lose their lives and so much was done to protect them. Ive tried so hard to stay strong during this even when we were sick or a loved one was sick. Even when they survived it is still not without the shadow that reminds us how fragile our lives are. Dont apologize for those tears that many of us hide and hold in at all cost because it is comforting to know that there are those who recognize this pain. Just to know that we arent the only ones that care about others.
