Thanks for Tuning In Folks & the Great Support despite the long silence on our side! Next up on the Smooth Gefixt Friday's finally finishing the ROUNDHOUSE ROOF! A preparation video next week, and then Roundhouse Episodes in the weeks after. Enjoy! [Noon ET (US) / 5pm (UK) & 18.00u CET / 0.00u CIT]
Julian. . I expect better from you regarding starting a fire. You have more practise then me. Hehehe. Luckely you had some fatwood to save the night. Still love your guys content
I think next time try using a y branch and cordage to remove bottle out of the hot coals. One side of the bottelneck you put the Y of the branch and with cord attached basicly "snare" the bottle neck tightly against the y branch
Imagine if youd had a third friend running the competition and when you showed up, he made you give your bottles to each other. Bottle switch on day one. Who can survive better on what the other person packed?
Two wonderful long videos on one weekend to kick off the Smooth Gefixt summer. I like how Dylan thought about outmatching Julius and still had longterm goal in mind, when assembling his bottle. Julius in the meantime continued to flirt with the fire. It was really a bummer, you did not catch any fish. But everyone should be happy, because we got to see Jäger eating.
I was scared Julius was going to cook himself wrapped up in foil like a Christmas turkey, then he said he put the fire out, phew! a real good effort on the worm charming J, Dylan's oats & lentils were a good plan, great mini series guys, thanks 😊 just for fun im going to see what i can fit in a bottle for an experiment
I really appreciated what you said around 9:35. Here in California, that tiny fire could have ended up burning down half the state. I hope everyone will continue to be cognizant about how/where they build their fires.
Fair play for sticking at your fire Julius and for your comments on fire safety. It’s so refreshing to see how much you guys care about the environment you operate in. Way better than a lot of other camping/outdoors channels. Big respect from Dublin.
you guys are amazing...you make us laugh a lot...we enjoy your different personalities...really liked the summoning of the worms...loved the new music by your subscriber
Swear every challenge they do together Julius always pokes his head in Dylan's spot to see his progress and his ideas.. yet on the other hand Dylan is happy chilling in his spot and doesn't leave it haha. Bless Julius he's a funny guy, like a kid at christmas most the time! lol.. Always great content from you both, keep it up! :>
The excitement I felt at the return of the battery fire😂 that knife is awesome! Thanks for the great work and dedication, we appreciate the insane effort going into these.👍
defnitely the best 1v1 episode so far imo. Briliant idea with the bootle challenge, two different tactics for the schelter etc. Love watch your videos. Keep it up guys!
yay part 2 ... BTW i'm pretty sure 18650 batteries are lithium ion so will have some short-circuit protection , as you said always have a plan B ( and a plan C for something as important as fire making )
Great video. I really like this format. I learned a few tricks from your video. I had the same problem with a rechargeable lithium ion battery from a flashlight. Some of those batteries have a protection circuit built into them that shuts the power off when they short circuit. I bet that is why it didn't work. I have found that the firefly ferro rod works better if you plant the teeth of the saw in the tinder and drag the ferro rod across the spine. That is how firefly recommends that it is used. Keep up the good videos.
Great to see you folks back! I had a really bad experience with heating rocks once, by picking the wrong kind. I put a few chunks of slate into a fire to let them warm up and keep the heat longer than the amount of fuel I had. But they must have been too flaky, and must have had water penetrated into them, because after about half an hour they exploded and sent shards of slate all over the place. The fire fuel all burst up and scattered too. Thankfully this was all just in a barbeque pit on a patio area outside a holiday cottage, so no chance of starting a forest fire - but I'll be far more careful in future!
You guys are the best bushcrafters on YT. The real deal and down to earth. This gives me an idea for a similar challenge to do and upload on my channel. Cheers.
You guys gave me some great ideas for an emergency kit for the car, as well as our evacuation pack. I was going to put a small cooking pot in a 5 gallon pail, in which I am putting home prepared dehydrated meals. But now I think I will add a stainless steal bottle instead. If there is room maybe I will put both in.
I know this is a late comment, but I have just discovered this fantastic video series guys! Seems like a reoccurring problem is the water boiling containers being too damn hot to move from the fireside. Simple fix for you. Take two sticks and make essentially a pair of nanchucks out of them. Wet the cord, flip it over the jar/bottle and cinch the jar quickly then remove before the cord catches fire. Now, it would also be smart to test for the proper cord length between the sticks before you have a jar of boiling water to deal with. Imagine it as using the cord to confirm and grip around the back of the container while the sticks grip the sides and also create tension. That would be 3 sides of contact---more than enough to move the container. Anyway, great series, will be watching them all.
Love you guys - I like the modest approach you take and have good tips without pretending to be bear grills. I'm working my way through your videos. PEACE and take care about nature! 🙂
I think you should both get one of those ready made survival tins exactly the same. Them see the different approaches you would have with the same gear.
Thank you I love watching you guys. You're like a couple of furry, forest fairies... as opposed to trolls ;) Where are the fish and frogs? Do you have crawdads there? More please!
Don't know if it is new, or I'm just now noticing it, but I love the music additions. If y'all ever want some Irish or Scottish Bagpipes let me know, be happy to send you something.
That was a cool idea for a challenge and a really great film. Was good to check in with you lads again and see you both doing your thing. I did a 5 item challenge in the Lake District mountains a couple of weeks back and like you said 24 hrs isnt much of a challenge but you always learn something 🙂👍. Great stuff lads and brilliant to see how well you're doing with the subscriber numbers. Cheers lads, atb Rick n Billydog
So glad julius is prepared to try some experimental options. Who knows the fire starter and worm charm might have been sperb! Great video ,best thing i have watched in ages
Splendid video again. That headlamp is very nice. I have the same one. I got it since december, used it pretty often and only had to charge it 2 times until this day. I'm looking forward to the new roundhouse episodes.
The battery you tried to use was an 18650 which is usually a lithium cell of some sort and the reason you couldn't get it to work is that they often have a protection circuit in them to stop them shorting and it's a good thing to as they can explode when shorted so you it may have saved you from a nasty burn.
Julius, had you fluffed up that grass/Reed material first it would have probably taken a spark but would have taken with the fatwood fibres had they been IN the tinder bundle, plus starting the fire in the place you intend to have the fire is always a good idea. Dylon, had you laid a couple of small tree trunks either side of your leaf bed they would have held the leaves in place better keeping a reasonable thickness. Just a few little tips, hope they help lad's. Good video, atvb to you both. Paul.
Use the fatwood to begin with it saves you a hundred strikes on that tiny ferorod, and when you get first flame put more fatwood on, "that's why you brought it!"
When i saw the battery coming out i immediately was like "oh here comes Julius macGuyver again with the battery and the foil" One of these days Julius, you will actually get the fire burning with a battery i'm sure :) Keep at it. Great episode again! Edit: It looks like the worm summoning stick can work, but i think you should put the stick deeper in the ground so that it vibrates further into the soil. As a child i used a similar tactic with a pitchfork and that never disappointed, but the fork went in a whole lot deeper than your stick. Both the battery foil trick and the worm summoner should get a chance to redeem themselves in a future episode.
i love the cheap space blankets they can be used for so many things. i live where it gets super cold and pretty hot and humid so they come in handy and for fun. i like in winter to stuff my boots with some and jam the rest up my snowpants and if im really cold stuff my jacket and put a little in my hat. in the summer ill put it im my hammock for when it drops down and gets chilly. i wrap myself up like burrito and im comfy with my shorts and light shirt on. ive herd they can make good solar stills but never tried. i sometimes use them to mark trails since it breaks easy and i feel bad just tossing it in the trash.
Haha I've used that method to gather worms but we just put a fork (or pitchfork) the ground and tap and wiggle it. It's a lot less prep. Even dancing or tapping your feet can work; several animals use this behavior to catch worms.
I really liked the Idea, but I also think that you would survive one day even without food. Why not making it like 3 days with both of you one bottle but you're working together. So you can pack the bottles with more structure. I really would love to see more Videos of you soon!

Devious!!! Love that!!! LoL!!!
Haha Julianvwould win Dylan always packs better, Julian is more about showing more exotic methods.
I love that you didn’t reveal what was in the kit UNTIL the moment when you suddenly needed it! Suspenseful editing!

Lovely location. Nice to watch your videos again.
YES PART 2!!! I wish I could watch new episodes everyday
Julius summoning worms is the funniest thing I've seen all week 😂 unlucky with the battery fire julius! 3rd times the charm

That worm summoning stick was hilarious. I was amazed that it (sort of) worked & now I have to try it.

Worm summoner!! Haha… Reminds me of Dune.
Nice video! A little trick for your water bottle toggle, tie the line off-center. It makes it easier to remove when it is hot.
Nice one, so excited 😊🇮🇪

Skunked on the fishing every time! Haha. Really enjoyed this
