But as per national allied health professional act 2021, only regular mode students are eligible for practice as counselor or social worker. Distance learning students are ineligible to practice
The act mentions "(e) "allied and healthcare qualification" means a recognised diploma or degree possessed by an allied and healthcare professional through regular learning mode under this Act or any additional recognised course obtained thereafter". To practice as a clinical psychologist you need a license from RCI and you can get it only after completing your MPhil in Clinical Psychology. You can become Associate Psychologist after doing a Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology from RCI approved institutions. Same goes for MPhil. And for becoming a social worker or counsellor you can start right away after completing Master in Social Work, Psychology or can go for RCI approved courses to get a license as a rehabilitation social worker (though its not mandatory in India). Anyone studying or studied at UGC recognised university is eligible to pursue those courses after MA that will help them to practice in future. The only roadblock in getting an MPhil after IGNOU, especially in Clinical Psychology, could be that the number of institutions accepting IGNOU students is limited (there is a list of universities available where IGNOU students are eligible for MPhil entrance exam). So all in all, saying that only regular college students can practice is totally wrong. Wa-Alaikum-Salaam. To become a psychologist you need a masters in psychology. So if you can find colleges that take students with BA in your subjects, then you can. Im not well aware of colleges in Pakistan, but I’ll try to ask my Pakistani friends in USA and let you know if I find something.
