Welcome back to Jakarta Josie, I love all your vlogs. A few correction if you ask someone about how much the price, you should say "Berapa Harganya?", instead of berapa banyak. Berapa banyak means you ask about the amount, the quantity. And if you love street food and peanut sauce, try batagor or siomay

Perfect timing to be in Jakarta. Tomorrow will be the starting of the fasting month of Ramadan, which means there will be more street vendors and more varieties of food, snacks and other delicacies available only in Ramadan

  • @ucoknyaduren3324
    @ucoknyaduren3324 6 месяцев назад +11

"Berapa banyak" means "How many". We use "berapa banyak?" to question the number or quantity of something. Not for asking the price. If you want to ask the price of something, you can say "berapa harganya?" or, you can just say "berapa?"

There are a few ways of saying "good" in Indonesia actually, and they can also have different meanings.
    - For food we usually say "enak", the food is good = makanannya enak. it's also applicable for stuff like massage, or most things to do with pleasure, also anything that has physical or psychological effects on our body or feelings. e.g. the massage was good = pijatannya enak. the kiss was good = ciumannya enak. the fabric feels good = bahannya enak, his voice is good = suaranya enak. etc.
    - if we want to say that a place or a service is good, we say "bagus" (mostly for nouns) or "baik" (usually for a person but can be used for nouns as well), the service is good = pelayanannya bagus, the waiter is good/nice/kind = pelayannya baik, you're English is good = bahasa Inggrismu bagus/baik
    - if we want to compliment someone we say "hebat" (also translate to "great"), you're good at cooking = kamu hebat dalam memasak
or if you want an all in one way of saying good, just say "mantap!" lol, it translate to great but in a more playful and fun way, it is applicable to almost anything and you might get a smile afterwards :)
can't think of any other examples lol. maybe someone else can add more to the list. Hope this helps. Have fun in Jakarta! My city!

Kamu hebat dalam memasak hampir nggak pernah ku dengar dalam perbincangan di Indonesia.. kesannya terlalu kaku, masaknya hebat deh! Or masaknya jago ya! Sounds more natural.. mangkanya bule banyak yg kedengeran kaku karena translate word to word ke bahasa indo.. ya kalau kata enak sendiri sih banyak banget ya di Indo "enak" "mantap" "maknyos" "sedap"

Not sure if anyone brings this up, but there's quite some ways on saying "how much?"
The one that you used (berapa banyak?) usually used for the amount of the item itself. For example, if you want to ask someone how many pieces of martabak they want, you'll use that to ask them. This is why when you ask the vendor "berapa banyak?" she (probably quizzically) answered one, because that's the amount of plates you ordered (it comes off like you're making sure she gets the order by asking her to repeat it)
When you want to ask how much the price of a specific item, you can say "[name of item]-nya berapa?" (how much is the [name of item]?). Adding "harga" in front of this sentence makes this sentence much much more polite & leaves no room for confusion (basically changing the sentence to "how much does the [name of item] cost?) but people will mostly understand what you mean if you omit it
When you want to ask how much is the total of price your meal (let's say you buy something else in addition of the mi goreng) people will understand if you say "jumlah-nya berapa?" (how much is the total?) instead!

Today is the start of ramadan. The best foods are starting to come out at evening. You may explore this chance.
For the heads up. 10 days before the "eid fitr". the roads all around jawa (java) island will be so much crowded. We have homecoming tradition (this year is on 1-11 april),.
Assuming you are staying that long. Well, are you even still here to enjoy the rare foods?
And that is "sate madura". The recipe is from madura island. Perhaps the most well known satay in jawa island. There are many kinds of satay in this country.
If you are still in jakarta. You may search up "sate klopo". So far, thats the best satay i ve ever tasted. There are two places selling this sate in jakarta as i remember. You may gmap that out.
But if you are visiting surabaya, that would be even better. Cuz, its kinda everywhere in surabaya. Its the original place of that "sate klopo", i think.
Oh, rather saying "bagus", i think the word "mantap" is more like the "multi purpose word". Perhaps you might remember that word and use that later :O
That orange juice is real by the way. Didnt you see the pilled up orange on the stall? :O
Sometimes its overly sour. Thats why the extra sugar.

"berapa banyak " can be used for how many pieces are in one portion. For example, satay. If you ask how many, he says "sepuluh ( ten)."

I’m in Australia, and although I can get Martabak Manis in Sydney (Rosebery Martabak - yum), I found a way to try to replicate Martabak. Get two golden crumpets and toast them. In between them, put peanut butter, and butter and drizzle honey or condensed milk. Not the same, but it will be similar 😀

    Welcome back to Indonesia, Josie.
Btw, you can just say "berapa" or "berapa harga" for asking the price, coz "berapa banyak" is usually for asking the quantity of an item.
Also, Indonesian don't say "good / bagus" for something edible. Instead, you can say "enak" (delicious), or more casualy "mantap" (outstanding).
