Hail Hera! It bothers me greatly that Zeus and Hera are so maligned that They need people to "defend" Them. May people one day know the truth about the King and Queen of the Gods!
I truly feel that there exists a teasing & flickering allusion to Hera's early primacy in Greek religion, via the almost universally ignored fact that the most famous & revered Hellenic hero (likely, ever), is named HERAcles- "glory to Hera". Heracles, whom according to tradition was the bastard son of Zues, was said to have been most despised by the Queen of Olympus in the famous myths of Homer-& yet is named to invoke Hera, rather than his father, Zues.
There's so many misconceptions about Hera, I'm glad you're covering her! In the few instances I've interacted with her as an unmarried man, she's been absolutely radiant, powerful, and with a wicked sense of humor. Can't wait for part 2!
This is timely for me, as we were just watching Blood of Zeus (animated series on Netflix) and my partner said, "There must be more to Hera than this!" And I knew she was an important household deity, and had to do with childbirth and marriage, but I didn't know all this. Now I can report back to them, and I'm excited to learn more
Of course there is. Hera Boopis is the Queen of my Hellenic faith; She is the one who sleeps in the arms of Zeus the Father, She is the one paints the sky with color and bloom, She is the one who that guarantees mothers (and birthing people) are taken care of before, during, and after labor. Both Her and Zeus are the ones who ensures the cosmic order of the universe. All of the other Deathless Gods bow before Her and enforce Her will.
Hera the widow* - im gonna search on that ^^ thanks Thanks that u dont put on myths... Myths are ever evolving... & some meanies like Ovidius also wrote myths... Ppl need facts... what ppl thought of her, n such... not fairytales :)) Thanks a lot... ith s my first diety dive on your channels (the only others ive seen, tho much linked w the myths from what i remember.. are on Ocean Keltoi - on Norse dieties
Thank you so much! I personally found this very informative. I (like most people) have always seen her as a goddess of marriage or have only seen her in relation to Zeus (going after his lovers). Although some of my thoughts are starting to change, I haven’t put that much time into understanding her further so that my perception of her wouldn’t be so one dimensional. As for the Hera deep dive part 2, I think it would actually be a good idea to include a little bit of Juno. Where they may not be as close to each other as other Greek and Roman gods I think it is good for people to understand how they are different. A lot of people in and outside of witchy or Hellenic spheres see the Roman and Greek gods as the same thing and I think it would do a lot of good if people were more educated in seeing that it is not entirely the case. ❤
I'm so excited to see the rest, because this is fascinating already. Was already feeling like I wanted to learn more about Hera, but now i want to even more.
Hey love the video, my opinions Hera changed dramatically I always thought her and zeus always saw her quarreling with him and just being angry all the time. But know I know why and how her anger is normal for her as the guardian of the oikos and fights for her status. And while modern interpretations are leaning toward sympathy, they sort her into 2 camp: sad bitter wine women or heartless to point of no reconciliation with her spouse 🙄
I remember first feeling drawn to HER upon listening to Queenie's (Kimberly Steele) version of the Orphic Hymn to Hera, while wintering in a Christian-based drug & mental health rehabilitation center. Despite having all but completely overlooked her, prior to this-suddenly I felt POSSIBLY the strongest attraction to a deity I've ever felt. Up until then, Aphrodite stood as the primary goddess I had been worshipping, but this slowly began to change, as I felt the connection to Hera grow. In the past month, upon receiving the divine Muse of Dance in a DMT-based ritual to Bacchus, all my personal Divine interactions became exponentially more intimate-& this has been no more exemplified than the undeniable feeling of presence, possession, & trancendance I've experienced when dancing (& singing) to the Orphic Hymn to Hera, both during the ritual & every day since. By simply studying the surface, I couldn't understand why she seemed so interested in ME-a single man w/ no children, & seemingly very little going for me. Yet, she has!! & I love her for it.
With cthonic Hera, I wonder if there is a link to the Gallic Eracura. On her association with the seasons, from a comparative perspective, that seems similar to the likes of Frigg and Frau Holle.
Oooooh thank you for this!! Waaaay back in the 90s when I first started my spiritual journey she was the first deity I ever researched, worshipped and really got to know. The more I learned about her the more my brain said, "ah-ha! There's something more to her."
Came for the Hera love, stayed to binge watch all of your videos. I really appreciate all of the time and effort you put into research for these videos, and I love your style! I've read a few history books on the Greeks but never really deep-dived; I know Hera through her mythology and always thought it was odd that a QUEEN and GODDESS was portrayed in such weak, childish ways (even though there are very human themes in all the myths, seems they took her to extremes). Only as an adult re-reading did I realize that her origin myth is about how Zeus deceived and raped her... so, umm, OF COURSE she's a 'lil bitter. I can't wait for your next video on her; Hera is my favorite. 💜 (On Hera of the Marketplace: weren't Greek wives generally in charge of household finances and going shopping? It's been a while since I've read up on it, but that might be an explanation or at least a link.)
As someone who really reveres and worships Hera a lot, I really loved this video. I would like it if you could talk about Juno and maybe also a bit about Uni in the next video. Uni is a goddess of the Etruscans (Basically the inhabitants of Italy before Rome was founded) who was heavily influenced by Hera.
If there's one thing about Hera that I always took from the myths, and just the general vibe around her, it's that she in particular is an absolute _QUEEN_ and is _NOT TO BE F*CKED WITH!!_
I've recently been looking at her in her relation to Zeus, not as husband vs wife, but through the lens of rulership and the Executive Branch of government vs Will of the People. A lot of her popular myths involve traditional roles, rules, values, and "the way things are done" in the status quo. And how people transgress outside that communal order and the repercussions. Either stopping it, cleaning up the mess, or as in the case of Heracles, accepting and folding it in and adapting the Quo.
I love your research and sources what we are introduced to is only a drop in what these divinites really were venerated and what they represented much love from the African Traditional Religions
I don't worship her but respect queen Hera. But the myth that most people forget about her is with Jason. Jason wouldn't have accomplished ANYTHING without the aid of Hera.
I only found your videos yesterday, but I absolutely love them so far! They are so informative and wonderful, thank you very much for them! This one is especially interesting, Hera seems like such a complex and lovely goddess, but she is never talked about enough in the modern day. If you are okay with it, could you one day do a video about Epithets? I have been trying to understand them but I am having trouble.
Thank you for this video, it’s really opened my eyes to how much there is to know about Hera. Please do include the synchronisms with Juno, its always so interesting xx
I just found your videos and I am floored with love and appreciation! This whole channel is really helping me learn more about my spiritual tradition and relationship with the theoi. Thank you!
Interesting. In some places in this video, it reminds me of the Goddess Hrethe in Germanic religion. She is a goddess whos associated with the noisy winds of march, shes another face of the Earth Mother, aka Frigg or Jord. Theres much overlap between these Goddesses. That leads me to believe that her worship dates back to the Indo Europeans
Great to see you back - we only have like 3 Hellenic polytheists on RUclips so we can’t afford to lose anybody!
If this ain’t the truth 😂
what are the other two?? i'm struggling to find more content like this

that's so so beautiful! thank you for sharing how she shows up in your life
People definitely don't appreciate Hera in all her glory! She has been so watered down.
agreed! which is sad because she's so wonderful!
Thank you so much for this episode. Hera always gets the short end of the stick in mythology... Learning more about Her worship and history is awesome
Great Hera!!! Beauty and powerful goddess be blessed forever
I love these deity deep dives!! They're so helpful and informative. Thank you so much for doing what you do :)
of course!! glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you! She's been so poorly treated and deserves so much more love than she receives.

Yay, justice for the Queen of the Gods! Love these deep dives Fel, love your work!
I'm so excited to see the rest, because this is fascinating already. Was already feeling like I wanted to learn more about Hera, but now i want to even more.
Not me a Cancer rising man with chills thru this whole video
Could do Juno as well may need a video on its own about the sincritism.

With all Her raging, is it any wonder He is often called Thunder Loving Zeus? Who else has the power to stand up to Him?
@@drekfletch Demeter has
Hera is wonderful and powerful in her own right! Delighted you loved the video
Yes! Deep dives are back! 🥳

ooo I'll have to look into that! Thanks for sharing
I lack the words for how much I loved this video, I was downright enraptured the whole way through.

I’m thrilled you did this! Even as a kid, I didn’t understand the hate surrounding Hera. Thanks for posting ❤
thanks for the kind words! there's a lot that's misunderstood about Hera, and I hope to find out how she truly would have been seen!

So many goddesses to research that have similarities with Hera! Her complexity just keeps growing and I love it

this is a really insightful perspective! She has a lot of overlap with the Empress tarot guard in this regard, too.
A Hephaestus Deity Deep Dive video, pleaseeeee. PS: Just got to know your channel, I'm loving your work. Thank you for the amazing content ❤
Saw the title and had to watch.

Hera has helped so many heroes throughout myth! It's sad these aspects are forgotten
