Thanks for trying our Kinsale Atlantic Dry Mead folks, it's a traditional honey only mead fermented off-dry and made with orange blossom honey, matured for two years so it's crisp and floral with citrus orange notes and not sweet, and also gluten free. You can drink it on its own in a glass, a mether or a drinking horn... or in a spritz as you suggest and great with all kinds of seafood. We've been making this for 7 years now in Kinsale which for all you folks not from Cork, is in West Cork !
As someone who has sampled the finest pruno that the Washington State department of corrections has to offer, I can confirm it most certainly tastes nothing like mead.
The cheers and salute of clinking glasses started with enemies sharing a peaceful drink, but out of fear of being poisoned, the enthusiastic salute of drinks would splash each others drinks together, so if one would be poisoned all will be poisoned who share in the toast.
I think this was hands down the best episode. 😂 Calleyanne, Dermot and paddy are always entertaining. Taran, Naill and Darren are magic as well love the Try channel
If you're really going to clink your glasses together before drinking, you hold the glass by the stem, not the bowl, or you won't get that satisfying "Clink!" sound; you'll just get a dull thud.
Darren, you are one lucky dude, it seems every time you show up to the try Channel, they pair you up with the lovely Callyann, and then today you get alcohol. Your life is now!!!
The Mesoamerican chocolate and red wine drink was fermented from dark (unsweetened) chocolate and the red grapes was added to diminish the 'bitterness' of the dark chocolate. It could b served hot or room temperature.
@@Naganopl You are right. I forgot to add quotes around the word "grape". It was actually closer to a berry, but with the arrival of the Spaniards and conquest, it got called "grape" as it was the closest word to the traditional berry. so it got replaced by the grape. It is also possible that it was changed by Spanish slave owners as berries or vanilla may not have been sweet enough to balance out the bitterness of dark chocolate. It is also possible that it got change to hide teh more 'sacred' version of the original indigenous people's culture.

Washington was no stranger to alcohol: “The bar tab of a 1787 farewell party for George Washington was left intact and legible," a Jan. 19 Facebook post reads. "According to the bill, the Founding Fathers drank 54 bottles of Madeira, 60 bottles of Claret, 8 bottles of Whiskey, 22 bottles of Porter, 8 bottles of Hard Cider, 12 of Beer and seven bowls of Alcoholic Punch. There were only 55 attendees.”
Eggnog is just drinking custard. Better when spiked. I mean, egg whites are one of the most commonly used fining agents for wine, then you have traditional sours, flips, fizzes...those are all raw.
How about Lincoln's guard abandoning his post at Ford's Theatre to pop around the corner for a (or several) quick beer? Not sure what kind of beer but it's got to count for something.
Fermenting the cacao fruit together with the seeds is still part of the chocolate-making process. I guess they just used to mix that stuff together with the chocolate instead of throwing it away. I kind of doubt anybody's tried mixing red wine with hot chocolate before - nobody that's willing to admit it anyway.
3:45, Well technically many fruits left to over ripen/rotten do. A ripened Mango will have the stinch of Liquor..., and a heightened Alcohol content. 🍸.
Alcohol and mushrooms came long before humans developed enough to truly own the land. Alcohol and mushrooms together WILL give you ideas .. some bad some really good.
I mean, that just exemplifies the essence of humanity right there. We discovered alcohol before we discovered "round rock (or wood) make thing go good ooga booga." Fuck me bro.
I love how Callyann's red wine hot chocolate mug was filled to the top......and nobody else had one that full. And why was the eggnog so white?? Eggnog is more of a tan/cream color. And then, Darren and Callyann got a light rum, while the others got dark. Where's the continuity today?
The story goes that the Mexicas(more commonly known as the Aztecs) were trying to make an alcoholic drink and accidentally made the chocolate drink. Not much evidence on this but if true would be hilariously funny.
I too did not know that Washington won because he got his electors pissed, as for the eggnog story, there's a guy who goes by the fat electrician who does historical videos. If anyone one wants an indepth absolutely hilarious take on the eggnog incident at West point, watch that video you will not be disappointed
around Christmas time I make my own eggnog because the stores are always sold out. Everyone who has tasted it likes mine so far. I think it tastes a little like a vanilla milkshake. I really like it and I HATE drinking milk! Oh by the way the eggs are cooked not raw if that what Nial was hung up about.
Niall isn't wrong, there's cheap Eggnog that tastes like weird banana custard drink and then theres Eggnog that tastes like spices and cream. I thought I hated it for years too.
2,800 B.C. Three men drinking Mead on a log. Fourth man walks up with four strange circular object. "Hey guys, guess what I just invented!" ... Later another man would find four broken bodies at the bottom of a hill, near a log with four circular objects attached to it and would become famous and wealthy for his "Discovery."
😭 Being a Chinese, never know mead, 蜜釀[Mi⁴][Niahng⁴], is originally from China and the 1st alcohol invention of the world. And dates back more than 5000 years of history.
Alcohol actually lead to the invention of the wheel. It was inspired by the first drunk falling and rolling down a hill .
😂
100%!!!
And as a cripple I say, blessed be that drunk! 😂
😂
alcohol and agriculture go hand in hand
Callyann AND ALCOHOL THIS WILL BE DELIGHTFULLY WILD
Hope there's a sequel and you give 'em Mesopotamian beer from 4000 years ago.
Tasting history has a vid on how to make some.
Dermot + Booze = Entertainment
Well said.
Agreed! Love him. 😅
Love to see Niall back. I've missed that guy ❤

When I was in Cork, they told us they only drink Murphy's
CallyAnne is the cutest when she's excited.😂
Like a hot muppet ;)
Callyann & Darren pair well together 😂😂😂
Need more vids with them together
We need a Part 2!! Great video TRYers! 🍻
Speaking as a retired State Correctional Officer, I guarantee that mead tastes nothing like prison hooch.
As a fellow retiree, I agree. Don't drink anything fermented in a trash bag.
Probably doesn't smell like it either. And wasn't strained through a sock.
Speaking as a mead maker I certainly hope it doesn't taste like hooch
@derricksmith6573 that's fantastic. I never tried mead.
As someone who has sampled the finest pruno that the Washington State department of corrections has to offer, I can confirm it most certainly tastes nothing like mead.
Try'rs, y'all rock! Glad to find out that we had to invent alcohol before we invented the wheel!😂 Peace

I don't think I've ever heard him called Patrick before this.
Come on guys, it's eggnog, not a dessert. Eggs are a breakfast food. Thus, it is breakfast drink.
Darren, you are one lucky dude, it seems every time you show up to the try Channel, they pair you up with the lovely Callyann, and then today you get alcohol. Your life is now!!!

As far I know grape wasn't known in Mesoamerica so do wine until Europeans arrives. It has to be something different or it's just a legend.

Let's be honest, the only reason for the wheel to be invented was to get more barrels of wine to the parties...
I loved this video. Always wanted to try mead. I love eggnog, but I prefer bourbon nogs. My favorite though are Irish whiskey nogs.
It's amazing with Kahlua as well.

Mead can have different alcohol percentages.
It could be interesting to try various meads and ciders, kind of from the "old times".
Mead is sooo devious. You can't feel it affect you...and then BAM!
Damn we need Leather Jacket Guy back!! And Irish Jesus!!
Think they're on their own channel nowadays, but yeah.
Should also be pronounced Irish "JAY-sus!" Throw some Colm Meaney into it.
Start as you MEAD to go on. Thank You Dermot.🤣
Native Indian tribes used to weight down corn ears in certain types of ponds, let it fermented then scrape off the "slime"❤
Mesoamerican chocolate was bitter, not sweet. Mesoamerican fermented chocolate was essentially a chocolate wine, not chocolate with wine added.
Chocolate started out in south america and when it started , it had a lot of chili peppers in it
Eggnog is just drinking custard. Better when spiked. I mean, egg whites are one of the most commonly used fining agents for wine, then you have traditional sours, flips, fizzes...those are all raw.
As someone who loves mead but no other wine, I appreciate the enthusiasm here.❤
(9:03) Odd thing, Cally... a popular drink in "Irish" pubs in the US is a mix of cider and beer (usually a dark beer, though).
George Washington had his own distillery 😂❤🍻
And he used to grow hemp as well...
This video had me looking up truly fun and interesting history facts. Thanks
love getting mead when I go to the Renaissance Faire, makes me feel old timey
Eggnog should be served with some ground nutmeg mixed in or floating on top. It really transforms the flavor.
There is actually a Southern Comfort brand of egg nog. It's non-alcoholic but it tastes like SoCo.
My favorite mead is from Bunratty. The best I've ever had.
Lol, your visit to Bunratty was much much different than mine!😅
@@LindaC616 I've never been. The bottle travelled rather than me.

They should have mixed the chocolate with mezcal, of pulche (undistilled agave wine) if they could get it.

Ah the Revolutioary War. The war where we were so drunk, we forgot how to spell revolutionary.
Blame it on the al-al-al-al-al-alcohol! Hehehe
You must try Brotherhood Winery. Brotherhood is the oldest winery in the USA
Taran - "Now we're sucking diesel!" Classic line. 😁
Joke from Seth Meyers. "Resarchers have found Firey Bearded worms on a Trxas beach. They were originally found on a Irish beach".😢

The cadets from the Eggnog Riot went on to become the generals of both forces in the American Civil War (the first one)
The TRY Channel, nice video you deserve more views
Eggnog is just thin custard with booze. You can make it for much cheaper by just adding milk and rum to a can of ambrosia custard.
3:45, Well technically many fruits left to over ripen/rotten do. A ripened Mango will have the stinch of Liquor..., and a heightened Alcohol content. 🍸.

The ingredients in eggnog are the same as ice cream. It's just not frozen, and has alcohol in it.
I feel like every invention/breakthrough up until wine started with "hold my Mead and watch this."
Drunken voters ? In America ? I'm shocked ...
If you had the candidates we keep getting stuck with, you'd want to be blind drunk before voting too.

Loving Niall’s hoodie.
Necessity is the mother of invention. The person who invented the wheel was probably motivated by the want for more alcohol. 😆
Darren: "I don't remember that part from Hamilton"!😅😂🤣
