I had to choose one or the other for my daughter a few years back. I was gonna surprise her, and have one delivered while she was at school. Then I thought, would I want someone chosing my guitar, nope. So we loaded up in the truck and went to a dealer. She played both, but one she kept going back too, and playing more. There's. Kawai in the house now, honestly, I liked it better too. A touch more mellow, softer tone. The Yammy was a touch brighter, or "more twangy" as us country folk say. And we get enough twang out of the banjo.
I went to rim ERS in October could have had anything but the one I liked was the Kawai e200 upright play it every day and the sound doesn’t annoy me
Superb comparison Graham. Yiur energy and passion for the piano is brilliant, so is your playing, fantastic. I would love either it's just having the room for one. Nice one.
Beautiful demonstration! Thank you for the side by side comparison.
Thank you . All the best Graham
Thank you for that, most useful. Love your enthusiasm!
Great demo Graham, personally I think I like the Kawai sound better 👍
I second this. I've played both and I find the GB1 on the bright side and lacking volume and richness. I much prefer the sound of the Kawai. Yamaha's more expensive pianos sound incredible but IMHO they've cut corners on the GB1 and it shows.
If anyone knows a baby grand that sounds better than Kawai GL10 ... let me know please:)
They're fine. They're small grands, entry-level grands of the respective marques. The Yamaha sounds a bit more subdued but at the same time a bit lighter-bodied and clear. The Kawai seems to be well sorted out. The bass is the area you lose out with the short grands.
Thanks Graham! Imagine my surprise when I found your demonstrations AFTER seeing you on Britains Got Talent?! I truly enjoy listening to you play. One day I will play as well as you do! Merry Christmas!
You are most likely better than me now! All the best Graham
I didn’t want to pay for a brand new baby grand so I resolved to buy either a slightly used (5 years or less) Yamaha GB1K or Kawai GL10. It just so happened that the one I found was a Yamaha. It all checked out after inspection by a tecnician so she now sits in my living room. Without having tried the Kawai I’m not sure if I would have preferred that one but I got a great deal on the GB1K so I’m very happy. It’s beautiful and sounds way better than my old upright. I like to play a variety on genres including classical and pop and I think this Yamaha will be more than satisfactory for my needs.
1:22 vs 3:12
Kawai has a deeper bass and better separation and better blending overtone.
This was great. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for this great comparison. I loved the Kawai sound more. Sounds are more separated and clean and also less resonated and less bright.
Brilliant. Best wishes from Scotland.
The Kwai sounds elegant with a beautiful sound. I have a digital Yamaha CLP695 and the difference is quite dramatic…..love the Kwai
The Kawai sounds more full, lush, romantic, resolving, and really similar to the Bluthner in the Bass Area, Steinway-lush in the mids, and briliant bell-like tone in the highs like the vintage Steinway.
The Yamaha sounds flat, shy, far away and analytical.
To trained ears the Kawai sounds far superior!
Kawai's baby's grand pianos are much closer to the more expensive grand pianos of Kawaii than the Yamaha's ones, that's why I like the base kawai grand pianos
Holy cow that cosy Kawai!
Great demo!!
Thank you I am glad you liked it. All the best Graham
You're very charming and personable. I subscribed just because you are. :-) Oh, and the piano sounds lovely, too! Is it brand new?
Those are such beautiful renditions. May I know the pieces played? I only know the last one, If I Should Love Again.
Sorry - I like the Yamaha better from these Vids. I actually played it twice and really liked it
Amazing Playing ma man.. 😎
I’ve owned a Yamaha upright but I like the sound of the Kawai in this video
thank you🌞✨💜
The way you have compared the both pianos just shows how passionate you are about just "sound". Absolutely love the effort you have put to compare the sustain of both the pianos...they are both awesome....i found the yamaha sound more natural and the Kawai a bit mechanical...but i do love the lighter action of the Kawai...it might lead to some other types of creativity....
thank you so much!
good job, best comparison of these two ive seen.
Thank you, I am gad you liked it....I hope you decide to get one from us. All the best Graham
Lol I thought you looked familiar! Glad you're doing well.
The Kawai had a midrange of clarity but the harmonics of the bass and the high tremble do not mesh well together. The bass is louder than that of the Yamaha but the harmonics are not cohesive, the higher tremble fizzles out and does sustain its definitive tone for very long. I prefer the Yamaha because it's very singable and the harmonics from the bass, midrange, and treble mesh well together. The Yamaha sustains its notes very well. Yamaha really took this into consideration when building its grand pianos.
I prefer the Kawai, although I think the tuning on the Yamaha is slightly out so hard to compare
Is it possible to have the treble Kawai sound and with the Yamaha bass? I must have listened back and forth more than 15 times! Love the way you play the Barry song, probably the best I ever heard ❤
May I know what is the pieces you're performed please?😁
omg what's that 1st melody u played? I heard that from a music box before but don't know its name! wanna learn the full song!
wow..ive always been a fan of yamaha..but for this entry level i'd get the kawai for the brighter sound..the contemporary tunes just sounded more beautiful on the kawai.
May I know the name of the first music you were playing? It sounds so beautiful !!
The first song he was playing was
“A Time for Us” (theme from Romeo and Juliet)
The second one was “Misty”
I like the piano from 4:00.
Kawai GL10 would be more suited for playing classical music in my opinion as it sounds more refined and fitting for it.
First of all, Graham, I have to say you are a very nice pianist...
Sencond of all, in spite of all the Kawai features and updates, I' prefer the Yamaha.
Are you recording only with your mobile?
Hello, Thank you for your comment & Yes recorded on my mobile phone..All the best Graham
Kawai ❤️❤️❤️
what was that first jazz song you played? It sounded so familiar but I can't think of the name for the life of me
“Misty” by Erroll Garner
Funny thing: We own a Kawai upright piano and it sounds similiar to the baby grand. So when I buy a baby grand from Kawai, I would feel instantly at home.
Some good upright piano even sound as powerful as a baby grand piano.
What model upright is it?
you were brill on BGT
Thank you . I hope this video was ok too! All the best Graham
Someone know the name of the first music played please ?
what was the first piece you played?? is sounds absolutely amazing :)
Its been bugging me for days, its so familiar but i can't figure out where i know it from
Did you finally find the namle of the piece please ? I search too :D
@@robinhutteau5444 no i still haven't found the piece yet but he has played in multiple videos
It is Nino Rota- Romeo & Juliet (1968)Theme. There are music sheet and turorial for the piece too
@@avdss thx you so much !!!
Kawai sound amazing
What is the name of the first song?
good demo! makes the choice difficult. 😊 what's the name of the song you play at 1:00 ?
The tune is called "Misty", a jazz standard.
Straight away I recognize you are the one who performed on BGT.
For the pianoes, I like Kawai too. It sounds brighter with less noise esp. at the bass end. Yamaha is a disaster because they have not reduced the noise till now. I can figure out why many students hated their pianoes a lot.
Hey Graham,
Could you please give me the name of the song you are playing at 3:56?
Thank you
Its 'If I should Love Again' Barry Manilow...Kindest regards Graham
many thanks graham. based on the comparison of the yamaha gb1 and the kawai gl10, i decided on the kawai. it has a richer sound. the deep tones are also better, in my opinion.
thanks for your videos. they are always very enlightening ;)
keep it up
Great video! I can’t help like the Yamaha more. I know that many classical pianists love the Kawai, and I get that it has this hard-to-describe deeper tone, but Graham looked like he was working harder to get the Kawai up to volume, especially on the last song. The Yamaha seems to want to sing. It’s like the Kawai has an EQ placed over it that dampens the mid-range and some
high range a little. I would be frustrated playing a piano that I would struggle to get volume
from especially in the mid range. But that’s my perception from a distance.
I just picked up a used Yamaha GB1K and I love it. I agree...it seems to sing. Even being played by me!
Personaly I think the yamaha is like an over exposed image just too perfect in other words doesn't leave room for the piano sound to resonate
Both are similar this are low end grand piano
What the name song?
Is he the same guy who came in Britain Got talent
I have to agree with a previous comment that the Kawai has a thinner tone compared to the Yamaha's thicker tone. My wife compared the GB1 to a Kawai baby grand today. After starting with the Kawai, she preferred the Yamaha within one second after playing the first chord on the Yamaha. After playing the Yamaha, the Kawai sounded far inferior to the Yamaha. Can't say it will work out that way all of the time especially after the GB1 she chose was also clearly superior to another GB1 in the same showroom.
It really depends what genre of music and who is playing it. Most classical pianist will choose the Kawai even over the Steinway.
Kawai is a brighter sound but prefer the Yamaha is has more depth…..
The Yamaha sounds better in the treble.
But the Kawai has a better bass.
kawai sound better
for me yamaha sounds better, the kawai dosn't sound bad it's rich but it has a slightly thinner bass and tone but the yamaha has a thick sound and full bass
