  • This is so cool!! I’m seeing this widespread with many people including ASL students, Deaf/HoH people, allies, etc but it’s also important for us to understand the difference between the handshakes of the sign and the classifiers especially when it’s easy for things to go viral on social media without understanding. ASL is a language and has its own categories too!! While you’re at it- join the fun!! 🤩 Special thanks to @sldelaune for the permission to repost and @58creativity for making this effect!

    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Hello! See this? 58 Creativity made this effect. So cool! I’m seeing this go viral on Facebook and Instagram! Many people are using this. So cool! I do want to make this important post. I did notice some people mixed the categories of the signs. Like the sign for that handshape and the classifiers. I saw Stacey’s video. Stacey explained the difference. I will show Stacey’s vlog so we can better understand the difference because ASL has its own categories. It’s important for us all, myself included, to understand this so we can play this fun game! Stacey: Hello! I noticed everyone was playing that ASL classifiers handshape game. I saw some things that I need to make sure I share this. We need to understand the difference between ASL handshape and ASL Classifiers Handshape. Often we push over the classifiers handshape. No, classifiers is its own breed. What does it mean? It’s to describe a thing or a person or what it looks like or what happened or how to use it, etc. I’ll give an example. But first, for ASL handshape, it’s like a sign for a word- example let’s use this handshape “one.” I would sign with this handshape- ALARM, HEARD, ONE. Now for ASL classifiers handshape, no. (Describing aggressive walking) (describing falling down) (describing a pole hit the face) (describing something punctured in the neck or chest) Like that.. now let’s say the “five” handshape.. for ASL handshape- FINISH, SCHOOL, but for ASL Classifiers, no. (Describing trees falling down) (describing water splashing on face) (describing a spill) (describing strong wind and hair blowing) Another one is this 3 fingers together handshape, this one is tough. For ASL handshape, I couldn’t think of any. For ASL classifiers (describing clips on a wire) (describing thick lipstick) (describing nails)
That’s the difference! Hope I’m clear! Again! Haha.
Renca: well hope that helps us understand better! Now I’m going to play!
Renca clicks on that effect. I wanna thank 58 creativity for making this effect! This is so cool.
Ah.. hmm.. (describing chopping and the cupboard)
