I would love to hear how these two knives compare in use (from apples to cardboard please :p ). There are several reviews of the Bailout online, none really talks how it actually cuts.
Just leave it alone. Good advice. When I get my benchmades up here in Canada, the pivots are usually tightened right down so the customs guys can't confiscate them for being a gravity knife. So I adjust the pivot and that's it. My 391 swings beautifully with no blade play, but I suppose that's down to luck, as manufacturing tolerances do vary - no getting by that. I think I like the bail out better.
excellent point on sharpening. I'd rather sharpen M4 vs 20CV. I'd love an uncoated option for M4 on the bugout, because EDCi, Hoppe's #9 and Hoppe's Elite I currently have alot of. all around M4 might be my favorite "super steel" although it is DEFINITELY NOT stainless, its its toughness, Edge Retension and Edge Stability really works well for me... we all know eventually we're all going to cut something that we will have to cut in a semi twisting motion.. and rolls are easier to fix than chips. M4 has always sharpened super well for me, takes some time, but always comes up razor sharp by hand or by KME. it sharpens much easier than 20CV to me, and both have edge retension that is better than good enough for any reasonable thing / task I can imagine or have ever run into.... I would straight up go with the tougher more stable steel... and if anyone cant figure out how to get a razor sharp hair shaving/whittling edge. send to me, I can hook it up, I have an unreasonable amount of KME Stones, from aluminum oxide to silicon carbide to diamond and double digit amount of strops lol
I got my Bailout M4 for $200 at Collectors Firearms. Absolutely love it so far. One thing I really like is that it’s so light and thin I can actually wear it in my right pocket next to my phone and it doesn’t get in the way when I take it out and put it back. First knife I’ve had that I could do that. And because it’s tip up it’s pretty important for me as it frees up my left pocket for whatever else.
Hey Metal, I tried to watch a few videos of that Shabazz guy, I could not do it. His voice makes me bat shit crazy, he sounds like a Jersey version of Elmer Fudd. That being said, you and Slicey are my favorites. Keep up the great work
The Bailout is my favorite knife. I carried the grivory version for years before I lost it last October at a pumpkin patch. I already had the green M4 version at home but I didn’t carry it at the time because I typically used the grivory 3V and the price point was high enough I wanted to keep it nice. After using the aluminum version I do carry it quite frequently now. I may be in the minority but I really like the grivory handles. I’m not saying they are better than the aluminum because they aren’t but maybe it’s because they are what I had carried daily for years I just have a positive opinion about them. I went out and bought another grivory 3V just because it really bothered me it wasn’t in my collection, I also have the bugout with Ranger green handles I carry at times. I really wish Benchmade gave consumers a zipper pouch and some swag stickers. I recently bought a Vosteed Raccoon and man they give better packaging and swag than Benchmade. I like to put knife stickers on my laptop, Benchmade is missing out on advertising as people ask me about the different stickers at times.
It would prob go to bailout. It's thinner, lighter, cheaper, faster to deploy, better clip, stronger lock. The blade on the Tanto para is the best I've ever seen though.
Thanks for the comparison, didn't know much about the bailout and now I do. I have a couple of bugouts - the CF s90 and an AWT scaled version - agree with most all of your points, definitely too expensive, but man, it's just the right EDC knife for me, I really enjoy them.
How dare you, sir! The gravity of you ridiculing the knife community for taking things too seriously cannot be overstated. I shall UNSMASH your “like” button!
And I’ll have you know, how I choose to infiltrate Mrs McKenzy’s structure is none of your business and I thank you to stay out of my personal affairs! Good day, sir!
I have both, love both. My bugout started stock, but got a treatment from Matt at Rockscale Design. My bailout is stock, and was in my pocket today. I'm a tanto guy personally. Honestly they're both great. Benchmade spent a career as a NYC paramedic in my pocket..... And yes, I've used glass breakers similar to the Bailout. Honestly I'll choose when I'm drinking my coffee in the morning. (But, it'll be my Emerson)
I had one omega spring break on my bugout after a couple months of long fidget time. I replaced them with some generic etsy springs with a slightly larger diameter. Replaced the scales with aluminum and it's a much better user now... one day when I grow up I'd love to get my hands on a Hinderer XM18. Love the content keep up the Awesomeness.
Can't go wrong with an Xm18! :) Much recommended, although a much different beast than a Bugout (both positively and negatively in some aspects). Hope you'll get one soon (or alreaady have)!
Why don’t they put the fu*king 940 in the custom shop?? Why is there no outcry for this? One of the most iconic knives! Why tf can’t I get my ideal m390/20cv loaded 940 after being a knife guy for so long for years - I loved benchmade upfront but their business practices have made me go to EVERY OTHER USA COMPANY
I’m holding off until I can customize the bailout. I love the tanto blade and the axis lock. not feeling the handle though. so hopefully it’ll be in the custom section soon
I've been really tempted to get a g10 m4 bugout but hard justifying 250 for it. However I feel like it would be a perfect knife. I absolutely love the m4 bailout in aluminum but I immediately had to by an aftermarket backspacer to get rid of that ridiculous "glass breaker."
Bought the basic bailout from blade hq. Should be in tomorrow. I know lots of people are freaking out about the hardness of the steal, hopefully it won't be that bad, I'm just using it as an edc and I'm not bushcrafting with it so it should be fine
I broke an omega spring on the mini barrage,I didn’t feel like sending it in so I bought a few sets of omega springs for about $10 and it’s been fine ever since.
Had the V3 bailout. Returned it for the better version with M4 and aluminum. So much better. Took the one out of the display at BassPro. Last one. Also, to hell with grivory. Lol
My omega springs broke one after another after like two months of having my bugout, I just ordered a bunch of spare springs off aliexpress and now I don’t have to worry about them breaking
Benchmade, Custom shop knives are Alot Better Q. C. Custom shop knives are worth the price. Bailout is heavier Blade, that is why it closes easier. 🦊😉😁
So true about just using the axis lock. Mine straight stuck when I first got it. Put a mirror polish on the brass bearings and it glides almost too smoothly lol
Dude you should totally check out Rockscale Design for the. He's got a backspacer to replace the pommel and Bailout titanium scales (and Bugout scales). The Ti scales are slightly heavier, but I mean it's titanium. He does batches, so just be on the site at the date/time the next batch starts.
Idk what the fuss is about with the disassembly of a bench made. Never touched a screw on a knife and I did a full scale and hardware swap in under 10 minutes on my mini bugout with no issues. Just stack all the parts on to the pivot than put the other scale on. Easy.
I like edcs with window breakers. Idk why. I need to add bailout to the list. I noticed the shot show one doesn't have a breaker. Any idea if the regular 2023 versions do?
LOL, yeah it's up to your own preference. Love it every time you say it. 🤣👍 For me the Bailout is more suitable because I can get more use out of it when on duty.
I’ve seen some interesting reviews of the Viper Fortis. Have you reviewed it? If not can you? It comes in G-10, carbon fiber, and titanium. Thank you for all your great work!
My bugout has too much blade play. I really want to like it but it just feels too flimsy. Ordered a bailout couple of days ago. Something tells my I’ll like it as much as you like my 940.
To the inexperienced anything with a sharp edge and a point is great for self defense. And shouldnt a "slave of christ" not be concerned about hurting people with knives anyways? Lol.
Despite the fact the knives are coated anyways: M4 is the better steel because it’s toughness is way better and edge retention is slightly better compared to 20cv.
I too couldnt decide so i did what all of us "smart people" do and bought both then promptly put rockscales scales and backspacers on both and way too many dollars later i have my 2 most carried knives. 👍👍
Don’t get rid of the freek. It has so much potential going for it. Watch DBK on RUclips testing it vs fixed blade knives. You can still buy another griptilian with a steel that you prefer in the near future. I recently went to my local turner’s outdoorsman for a super freek or a mini adamas but weren’t in stock because of their sale, but I did manage to buy a bugout with carbon fiber scales and s90 steel. I figured that I needed a light weight when I’m wearing a suit or golf shorts. Btw the full size adamas is really scary big. Have fun collecting since we don’t wear fancy jewelry or carry expensive purses lol.
"I wear XL gloves but that doesn't mean I have XL hands." Yeah, it kind of does, man. That's why you wear XL gloves! Imagine someone saying saying "I wear small gloves but that doesn't mean I have small hands."

I've bought 2 benchmades, and was extremely disappointed in both. A brand new $190+ knife should not need sharpening out of the box. As much as I like their customer service (it is fantastic), and the knives(superfreek and m390 contigo), I am really hoping they get their s@%t together.
Man... I had a Bugout I hated it because of the Grivory or how ever ya spell that junk plastic ain’t nobody can convince me otherwise.. stock Bugout sucks! That one there... might as save the money an buy a Kershaw Link steel liner lock aluminum scales an 20CV blade all for like 99$bucks! I bet a million bucks would perform just as good as that Bugout! Not the same grind but Kershaw was smart enough to add a Swedge on the blade so its probably just as slicey as it! But yeah yeah sold my stock S30V Bugout for 140 bucks an bought the Kershaw Link only bad thing... the Kershaw Link can’t be de-assisted...
I’m not a tanto fan or a big Bugout fan but I’d take the Bugout in G10 any day. Being a city guy I don’t get to use my knives hard but know how to break them in. Use it and cut up a bunch of cardboard etc. IMO-smoothness/drop shut is way overrated and does not always mean quality.
Couldn't decide.......bought both🤷♂️
I like your style
Hahaha
Will do. I will say that I'm a bugout fan boy and I've been carrying the Bailout more🤷♂️

I don't know why the texture on the aluminum Bailout handle is so perfect, but it is!!
if you dyed the grey scales on the bugout black then you'd have a blackout with green accents

I’ve got the bailout in 3v. Excellent knife to carry and has stayed sharp for the duration of time that I’ve owned it.

The tanto would be great for self defense though.
To the inexperienced anything with a sharp edge and a point is great for self defense. And shouldnt a "slave of christ" not be concerned about hurting people with knives anyways? Lol.
I believe the handle shape is because of the tip the bailout has a stabbing tip
Bought a bugout after wearing they were ridiculous and I now live out so much I am getting a custom bugout with M4 and the Bailout both.

Bailout over Bugout. 20cv over M4.
If possible do a video on the best hard use knives. I'd say the Medford Marauder H.
How about just an M4 bugout?
Also, knife center had the bugout you have, on sale at 163 recently.
@Rand Cain 🤔 guess it was bhq haha

you are absolutely the Nutnfancy of the knife world...
Yeah I wear a large glove, and the bugout feels small
To me. The bailout feels perfect, just a little skinny. At least the old model did.
I feel like a tanto would be preferable for infiltrating the structure due to the door stabbing capabilities
Crowbars/prybars & axes are the tools you want for breaching a door. A folding knife definitely isn't the right tool for "door stabbing".

The way the knife was hardened was the problem not the actual steel
right, leave them alone, and they will get smooth..
