Yellow probably left that game feeling proud of himself for “making pete lose” for some tiny perceived slight.
Also possible that he literally didn't have any good caps since the maj of his troops were orient (I mean we can see most of the rest of the board) and he decided that if he let Pete have anything he'd ultimately not be able to fight his way out of the Orient since it is a pocket behind Pete so he hoped he could claim Italy and keep Pete off bonus simultaneously long enough to set and roll Pete's cap. A stupid plan... but at least it's a plan...

It's a little sad that your mercy lost you the game. Taking Pete's cap was probably the win. Putting yourself in the cucaracha position just made you look very threatening even though you were being super nice. Eating that suicidal pink stack didn't help either.

He had a lot of material behind you, so his goal was to destabilize you and force you to use your cap troops to stop him. Then he’d cucaracha you with his cap stealing the pocket. Works on low skilled players who don’t keep troops on cap, unfortunately he ran into a gm. My guess is from there based on his skill level he got mad you weren’t doing what he wanted so he noob slammed you
My guess on yellow is that he overestimated his ability and thought he could easily defeat you, get your cap and win the pocket for himself by caping behind you and preventing you from taking the pocket

First turn after yellow broke you with no hesitation, it was a major hint that he is behind you. Second turn when we learned that he isn't in Italy, it was revealed that he is behind you and he wants to fight you for the pocket. So he cannot let you have a bonus. I think you should have really targeted removing yellow from outside, guaranteed you would hold deneric turn 4 or even turn 3.
My guess is that Yellow thought they could keep you down and steal your cap, they moved the 4 into their cap and dedicated everything else to kill you. But that was harder than he thought it should be so went with sunk cost fallacy and bomb the rest of their troops into you.

And they did so knowingly which is usually extra stupid cause you know your main enforcement point is trapped behind someone elses cap which means you have to suicide into them to expand past a certain point in the game
Personally think yellow tried the cap behind try and push through you and go for the god roll. Happens to me all the time, yesterday even got a double smackeroo turn 1. If I remember right 8v7 then 13v11 caps. Mine being the greater number. Won both but then got my cap stole with no hope of survival unfortunately.
I just had a game on reverse world where the yellow player terrified me with all his troops in one army in the middle of the board ready to kill anyone at any time but i killed all of my opponents before he got the chance. It was a fun game where my highest ranked opponent played like how I used to in prog, survive until an opportunity arose to make some kills by keeping multiple different positions alive for as long as possible. It did not work when neither he nor I had a set on 4 but I went before him and no one killed me so he was my first kill the game! Btw, now I am way more aggressive in games and have a much higher win rate.
@FreePete, at 3:41, yellow fortified from the 4 directly next to your capital to the territory that ended up being its capital, I thought right away that it is was the capital and I think you were just looking away and missed that because it wasn't until 11 minute mark when you went exploring that you confirmed it was the capital location. I am a novice, but was the fortify at 3:40 a clear indication that he was fortifying his capital? I thought so because he had previously broke you from Italy and it seemed clear that he was then fortifying his capital.
The fortify doesn’t really mean anything. His cap could have been anywhere in orient or not, you never know lol. it’s probably obvious to you cuz you saw it from the thumbnail. If not then I apologize for assuming but it’s not a great indicator of a cap. Yellow could have fortified the four in to try to set up to take orient or to defend it or to start to group his troops. Even so finding his cap there didn’t really mean too much since pete had a feeling it was interior. I think he just wanted to confirm

@@FreePete yes and no. he might have had the presence of mind to check on/seen your stats and thought if he gives you cards in the pocket, you'd give him 2nd and at the same time do the bulk of the work. he may also have thought you could act as a buffer and he could paddle around behind you for a while to build up, but again, purple was aggressive there so that idea was denied.

I don't agree that yellow was throwing a tantrum or behaved in any especially vindictive way. What he did was saw that the most attractive area of the map would be hotly contested by you should he choose to cap on one of two good caps he was presented with. So he decided on turn one that you would be his enemy and he would try to kill you in order to secure the pocket. He wasn't a good player, but I don't think this was a bad play.
I actually think the opposite. I think he played his seat ok but I think the choice to put his cap there was certain death. So ok player (maybe) but terrible choice with the starting position It's funny to me that anyone doesn't see yellows cap choice there as certain death lol I guess that's why they're watching me and not the other way around 🤣🤣🤣

He intentionally broke your bonus in the early rounds to keep you and your capital weak. I don't think he planned on purple dumping all those troops in there, though, which then ruined his entire game.
Looked to me like the sue was a last ditch effort to win the pocket because he was unable to break your +4 anymore. Not saying I agree with it, but that’s what I see as happening.

Only thing he forgets is that the game has more players. He does not have to be the one killing you. By getting both strong he could have a better chanse. ALSO, he might think you knew him being there and so you would hold him off bonus. So he hits you befor you can hit him. But in the end he loses both games. So i think he could not look further that that.
Yellow had an okay mindset... their cap would easily break pete and defend his own bonus and win... he just failed to account for pete getting a different bonus where he quickly decided to go to war over realizing he would lose immediately if pete grabbed a bonus before he could finish his corner... he lost and threw the game... but the planning was there. He also didn't let pete hold the first bonus because he knew where petes cap was and figured pete would work on his bonus his cap was in, see his cap, and break yellows italy. So while yellows play didn't work out, he was correctly assuming pete would turn hostile after seeing he capped behind him and banked his entire game on preemptively attacking him since he had the more defensive cap placement.
If you think yellow had an ok mindset and didn't put themselves in a mutually assured suicidal position with me, then you need to watch WAY more man. What you're saying would be true if there was a blizzard in Greece, but on this board the instanbul cap doesn't guard anything, it just gets him killed

Since almost every player takes the bonus their cap is in, he predetermined that's what you would do... and had you done that he would break you each round with his cap and work on his bonus. His play got thwarted as you soon as you took an outside bonus because it would take multiple turns for him to take his. The rationale was there, he just didn't think of the worst case scenario of you not caring about the bonus your cap was in right away... and that threw off him breaking with his cap and working on his bonus.

Hi Pete, I've been watching your videos now for around 2 years and I really like the new largest map videos you've been putting out and I'm a big fan of the Europe advanced games. I'd like if you could bring this topic up in one of your videos. I think I remember you saying something like this in one of your older videos, but this occurred to me again recently. I don't play Europe Advanced much, because I have mobile, and speed issues makes it not a very viable option, even with a 2-minute timer. Also, there are many times when it would be nice to have a shorter timer to speed up the game for standard turns. Imagine a place where there was a 30-second turn timer but each attack added a second. Or a 60-second turn timer or a 90-second turn timer but each attack adds a second. That way you could speed up each standard turn but when it matters you have the time to do what you need to.
Yellow's cap was a good one, not an idiot's choice or nothing weird about it. He needed to defeat you to have hope to win no? And not everything is collab tho😅

The reason yellows cap is an idiots choice, and I'm surprised to hear you say you don't think it is because I understood you to be a good player, is that they capped after me, in a locked pocket with no hope of holding a bonus after seeing where I capped.
Yellow chose to take himself down and take me with him from him very first move.
So he's either and idiot, which is the charitable take, or it's targetting.
I actually don't think there's a third option in this case and I assumed that anyone who knows what they're talking about would immediately see this as well.

@@FreePete yeah maybe he wanted the pocket and didn't have another strategy, so his only play in his head was trying to kill you as quickly as possible, or he just didn't have another good choice then the 4 next to your cap and what I think was a 3 on Istanbul

He wanted to cap on that 4 you capped next to his 4 so he was wah pete ruined my game so I am going to make him my mortal enemy and take him down. Problem is that you are a top player so it didn't work but probably would have against a less experienced player.

The biggest issue is White not capping on the 2 in russia. Russia was a 3 point hold
Yellow capped behind you so you couldn't take the pocket and then tried to keep you off bonus so you would quit.
