For those who aren’t up to date: This song is about the actual kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl. In 1987, she was returning from a concert in Tacoma, Washington when she was abducted by a man named Gerald Friend. He took her back to his mobile home and raped her. The girl, whose name was not released, was tortured with a whip, a razor, and a blowtorch. She managed to escape when Friend took her for a ride and stopped for gas. He was arrested and sent to jail.

Most artists would just read the article and go on with their day but Kurt/nirvana didn't, they created an awareness for her and other people who have gone through the same thing. minimalism can be quite the effective tool in music composition, that's the essence of why punk song structures can be so endearing while being mostly based on CAGED + Power Chords, in most cases.
a song doens't need to be the most orchestral to sound good and you can see that a lot all over Nirvana's music, from the chorus of In Bloom to the last recordings.

    Polly wants a cracker

To put out the blow torch
    Isn't me, have a seed
Let me clip your dirty wings
Let me take a ride, cut yourself
    Want some help, please myself
    Got some rope, haven't told
I promise you, I have been true

    Greatest lyrics ever written!
I've never heard something like that before. It's fascinating who he creates several deep meanings without even saying much.
    Example:
    1. "Have a seat" (pretty self explanatory)
    2. "Have a seed" (in regards to the bird metaphor)
    3. "Have a seed" (Well… I guess we all know what that's supposed to mean…)

For a most of that year everywhere you went, every time you turned on the radio or a music show on TV or went to a party it was this album or Pearl Jam Ten or RHCP blood sex sugar magic.

Kurt was an absolute genius songwriter. He knew of the times and that all was not okay with the world (especially with what happened that inspired this song) and reflected his thoughts and emotions through a guitar before he wrote lyrics and sung them. Like Jim Morrison and Bob Marley before him, his time on Earth was all too brief but he left an indelible mark on the world as he changed the face of rock music forever.

No grunge band will ever be as good as Nirvana and if I were to write an essay about anyone and why I think they're a civil rights hero - I'd pick Kurt Cobain as my idol because he made music for the love of music and knew that his true fans would/always will always stick by his / nirvana's side! I mean if I had my own band I'd go with Death Metal with Nirvana being one of our greatest influences! RIP Kurt
