The bass in any Nirvana song just really lets the mood of the song set in, Krist Novoselic did some good bass man.
Krist is one of the most underrated bassist like this guy has some insane talent
Especially when u hear the plain bass in a break

For those who aren’t up to date: This song is about the actual kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl. In 1987, she was returning from a concert in Tacoma, Washington when she was abducted by a man named Gerald Friend. He took her back to his mobile home and raped her. The girl, whose name was not released, was tortured with a whip, a razor, and a blowtorch. She managed to escape when Friend took her for a ride and stopped for gas. He was arrested and sent to jail.

Great insight.
It's eerie thinking about the mindset Kurt had to be in when writing some of Nirvana's songs like this one. It's like being in pain but being numb at the same time.

Kurt was such thoughtful and amazing person, this song is an example. Most artists would just read the article and go on with their day but Kurt/nirvana didn't, they created an awareness for her and other people who have gone through the same thing. Nirvana most likely didn't care about the money instead cared about that 14 year old girl. I put Kurt but the other members of Nirvana were just as amazing. How can a song be so good yet not complicated at all
music is about feeling
minimalism can be quite the effective tool in music composition, that's the essence of why punk song structures can be so endearing while being mostly based on CAGED + Power Chords, in most cases.
a song doens't need to be the most orchestral to sound good and you can see that a lot all over Nirvana's music, from the chorus of In Bloom to the last recordings.
If only you knew the meanings behind those lyrics...
if you knew the meaning behind the song you would think its complicated
Recorded on a $30 guitar by the way.

I've never heard something like that before. It's fascinating who he creates several deep meanings without even saying much.

Kurt was an absolute genius songwriter. He knew of the times and that all was not okay with the world (especially with what happened that inspired this song) and reflected his thoughts and emotions through a guitar before he wrote lyrics and sung them. Like Jim Morrison and Bob Marley before him, his time on Earth was all too brief but he left an indelible mark on the world as he changed the face of rock music forever.
