Do you want to start out in acquisitions or investment sales? Why?

Hey Justin, can you make a video talking about debt side positions?

Could you do a video on Fund Management Justin. And maybe fund management vs acquisitions. This seems to be a combination that is very common on graduate rotation programmes.

Buy side because of 1) carry, and 2) your decision and "conviction" to execute a deal along with the weight it bears in turbulent markets (esp. for the AM guys) is the very essence of real estate investing.
You can't get that in sales. However, sales does have that "rush". Interestingly, both jobs are catered toward different, yet surprisingly similar personalities.
Exit opps wise, I'd wean on the caution that it is hard to pivot to a reputable REPE firm from IS UNLESS you've worked as an analyst on an institutional team (average transaction size of $50M+).

Love your videos. I've been pivoting to CRE after a recent layoff and your channel is hands-down the best and most articulated resource in the wild.

This is exactly the video I was looking for. I'm interning in investment sales this summer but I'm also really interested in starting on the ownership side. Thanks!

Such a great video- I recently left investment sales brokerage analyst role at a top performing shop in the sunbelt for a principle side acquisitions manager role after just 2 years. Substantially better work life balance and the guaranteed compensation is a nice change of pace. I always recommend your Chanel to up and coming CRE professionals, keep up the great content!

Great video Justin. I’ve been in the banking sector for over a decade now and 2 years ago got a gig as a business development officer for a private equity company. Not quite what I envisioned for myself though I do want run my own investment fund in the near future. I’m back in banking now looking to secure my securities licenses and build my experience through wealth management services to help with networking with high net worth clients to invest in my future deals for my investment opportunities. Also I’m highly interested in purchasing a few of your classes to learn how to use excel spreadsheets thoroughly.

I saw that you obtained your MBA. Would you go back and do it all over again, given how your career has evolved?

Also, I'm a real estate agent, but I know residential sales isn't what I want to do any longer than a year, so I am contemplating an MBA, specifically from UCI.

    • @BreakIntoCRE

Great question and in my specific case - yes. I was looking for more institutional experience and wanted to move markets, and an MBA allowed me to fast-track my way there. UCI has an excellent, tight-knit program with great access to the local real estate community. This could be a great path for you to transition into commercial from residential. Good luck!

I have an investment sales analyst interview with JLL (Phoenix, AZ). Any tips?

What about private capital (non institutional) teams at JLL/CBRE? Do those roles have any exit opportunities? Are they hard to land?

  • @timothybracken1728

No one is hiring right now, too bad RE and Finance are cyclical industries.. No one's answering to resumes or applications. Very hard to land desired roles
