for those that dont know... the "red-haired annie" at the beginning is Taylor Richardson who was playing Annie on Broadway at the time of filming! (and that is much like her costume and wig in the show)

Yes but the groan implies they're disrespecting the source material. Although ironically the big hair on black Annie resembles more 1982 Annie's ginger fro
I'm so old, my Ma heard the Little Orphan Annie radio show & saw the comic strip--I think Ma would totally love 21st century Annie for her independent spirit & refusal to give up & I do too--but Annie must have her good dog Sandy!
They've written Charles Strouse in place of James Buchanan and Martin Charnin in that of Grover Cleveland. Strouse was the original musical's composer, and Charnin was the lyricist. Neither was ever President. UPDATE: Oh. I never noticed. Thomas Meehan in place of Andrew Jackson. He wrote the book (the part of the musical that has NO songs).
this is literally so insulting. Listen to how they made all the kids groan after the first Annie's recitation. This was clearly done to portray the red haired Annie (representing the original version of Annie) as "cringe" and "boring" and paint the new Annie as the cool and hip one. You don't have to crap on the original version of a story in the reboot. Hollywood keeps doing this.
I think you’re blowing this wayy out of proportions.💀It’s pretty clear they groaned because the first Annie’s essay was “boring”, while the second Annie’s essay was more entertaining and engaging. Again, I don’t think it’s that deep lmao
@@NotRynne that's literally my point. They portrayed the red haired annie which is meant to be a meta representation of the original annie as the boring one.

I have to admit, this is a pretty good version of Annie! Because THIS Annie is BLACK, and that's great! Because, not ALL Annies have to be white, right?
Thanks, I hate it! Seriously, I just can't get past the fact that this entire movie is just one long joke "Teeheehee, look how corny the original version was, and how silly it is that everyone is singing!" Sorry movie, you are NOWHERE NEAR clever enough to pull that off!
That's not the point of this version at all? This was just the opening, the actual movie has a ton of musical numbers just like the original musical? Almost all the same musical numbers, in fact. It's pretty good! And I say that as someone who really loves the original!

This is an insult to the little red-haired orphan, as charming as she is and here they have made a lot of her
How is that an insult dummy
Annie is the only good movie where a black kid replaces a white kid. I love the original Annie too, I just think the 2014 one isn’t bad either
Honestly, minus the part where they reference the original, this opening scene's pretty good. I like the medley (Overture) playing in the background
Agreed
referencing the original is the best part of the movie
