Glenn's picking style already had some nice attack and dynamics back in the day of things like The Eagle Has Landed, but the improvement is really clear.
100%. I noticed it straight away on the Ampknob video. The right hand has really tightened up and everything sounds a lot more controlled and fluid. Great stuff. 👍🏼🎸
I'm really loving how these big companies with crazy unaffordable amps are making their amps available for the masses. I wish I had this sort of thing when I started playing guitar.
This is the first time a solid state amp tone has made sit up my my chair and say "Holy shit!" this is the tone that I'm looking for. Seriously amazing.
Crunch Mode with a good Tubescreamer would be killer. The fuzz on the other distortion channel is a little much for me but still absolutely usable. Great demo Glen.
From my experience, tubescreamers color the sound in an undesirable way. I think I agree with the person who said a boost pedal like a Klon would be more ideal.
Mike Soldano lives locally here in the Seattle area. I've had the pleasure of playing a few shows with him when he was playing pedal steel. Super humble and kind guy. This was probably 8-10 years ago. Way back then he was already trying to make quality affordable options for everyday people. He had a deal with Jet City Amps making affordable tube amps. In talking with him you could tell he genuinely loved music and musicians and wanted to make quality gear accessible.
Which is nuts because most of the lunchbox amps were full tube amps when this trend started. Orange Tiny Terror, Vox Nighttrain, Jet City JCA20, etc. And we're starting now to see hybrid amps and solid state amps using JFETs. Solid state amp tech has really gotten so good in the last 10-15 years.
When you cleaned it up, it really nailed some Nirvana vibe. When you engaged the Deep option, you could tell it is solid state. No comment on right hand technique. Have an ass-shaving good time, GGGGLLLLLEENNNNNN!!!! Thanks
I’ve always wondered who rolls up to live gigs with a tube Soldano full stack and a custom Les Paul. That’s like displaying a stack of $13,000 dollars in front of a room full of drunks, druggies, antisocial psychopaths, or jealous haters waiting to “accidentally” spill their beer into your speaker grill. And if you don’t want to risk the luxury gear at a gig, is it really worth considering it “professional” equipment? Give me a ‘90’s Carvin 2x12 with a Metal Zone, a red Charvel from a pawn shop, tell me i suck and spill your piss beer all over my gear, and I’m still sleeping like a baby later that night 👌🏻
So I have a carvin vintage 50 head, carvin birch 412 cab, heavy as hell. That rig sounds sweet. I got 500 in it, used, near mint. So I run that now, using the mini's preamp. I'd put it up against any slo or avenger. The tube pwr amp of the carvin made that mini come to life. Fantastic!
I've been enamored of Soldano amps forever. I'm a huge fan of Heart and Howard Leese was one of their first artists. Of course, as a basement hacker I never could justify the cost of getting one for myself. Might have to pick one of these up.
Haven’t watched you in a while but man your playing really goes very well with the sounds you are getting out of that little Soldano. Great playing, Glen!
Hey man! I appreciate you and have a great time working with recording studio owners since I have learned from your videos, that my band mates are a holes! I keep them in check and don’t waste the engineer’s time and our money is put to use! I will pick mini up too!
Glenn, your demo is the first that makes this amp sound... great! Literally every other demo of this and the rest of the little mini high-gain heads sound pretty bad to me, they sound fizzy & cheap, but you've chosen an excellent speaker cabinet to combat the harsh high end, love that tone!
I'm an old school tube snob--these mini heads have that "sound", but more importantly, the "feel" of a tube amp. With the feigned "tube shortage" (much like gas, there is no shortage, just greedy tube companies wanting moolah), this is a great option. 30 watts is plenty for live situations if the cab is mic'd.
I'm going to pray for a Lee Jackson Metaltronix M1000 mini head to be an actual thing. This one sounds great, tons of saturation and then some, just like the old Soldano of yesteryear.
When I was using a Marshall DSL and 1960A cab I always got my `proper heavy` tone through the crunch channel, set it to moderate amount of crunch and then used a Tube Screamer pedal set to just a touch of overdrive and passed that on to a valve preamp pedal like Laney Ironheart or Seymour Duncan Twin classic and that was where I dialed things up if needed to get my fave thrash tones or beyond ........... overall I could achieve a very articulate and clanky chugger sound which was my most used tone ......... usually modeled after Gary Holt`s tones from Exodus
now I`m doing that sort of thing in my small home studio in a more compact form by using just the valve preamp from an Orange Micro Dark ( by tapping into the insert out on the back to bypass its little solid state amp ) and then passing that on to an old Rackmount Valvestate Pro 120/120 power amp which then goes on to either a 1 or 2 speaker Cab that I made that have either the same speaker as they use in a 1960A cab or 2 speakers that they use in a 1960AV cab ...... and I still use the tube screamer on low settings too ............. and the result = still an articulate but crushing sound even at low vols ..................... smokin`

I think this one sounds better than the other ones I've seen so far. The mini BE and Diezel honestly don't sound very good in the demos I've seen but this one is pretty cool. I wonder how it would sound through a tube power amp.
You know what would be a good test, a blind mixing test: Do you put more effort into mixing/working on recordings done on gear you perceive to be good because you feel like you can get more out of it so you actually try?
I guess you could run your pedals through the effects loop, and use an AB switch to get a clean tone with loop only. I would have liked to hear it with an OD pedal. This is a nice amp.

@@InTheSh8 wow. Did you just jump in my ass about the Jet City amps? I had a JCA-50, and loved it! Took pedals great, but it was top end fizzy. That’s just the facts. Then i ran an old school board with boutique Skreddy gain, fuzz, phaser and echo pedals. I also had an old DOD EQ and a boss chorus. I found the cleaner amp was a better platform for pedals, and it was so loud i could never turn it up past 3 for fear of blowing my cab. Would appreciate a mini all-tube version, 20-30 watts. This sounded nice on the super high gain and I think you could play with the breakup on the crunch channel to cop some decent ACDC tones. No clean to speak of though...that is why we need more amps. Great demo, and Eff You, Glen! Keepin it clean for Auntie Sue.🙄🙄🙄
Excellent review Glenn (and as we all keep saying…a dramatic improvement on the chops 🤘🏻). Gonna peep your Diezel vid now as well. Not sure if you’ve addressed this previously, but when you are choosing speakers to load your cab with, like the mentioned Revv and Celestions, is there a consideration to what you load on bottom vs top of cab or no real reason to get that pedantic over it? Thanks so much!
How does it sound with one of those spectre high res IR's? Oh that's right WE DONT HAVE THEM YET!!!!!! I want my high res coffee cab with fredmans on the v30 and k100, fricker!

Slo's crunch channel traditionally works better with a Klon type pedal. I'd like to hear if this one is an exception.

250$ For that! Holy Shit is that a steal!
There is a 30 watt mini tube version...
Yeah that's the SLO-30, it's about 2500 dollars more expensive than this lol
They do
Shoot out with the 100w?
I mean, how close can it get to the original one?
Excellent review Glenn (and as we all keep saying…a dramatic improvement on the chops 🤘🏻). Gonna peep your Diezel vid now as well. Not sure if you’ve addressed this previously, but when you are choosing speakers to load your cab with, like the mentioned Revv and Celestions, is there a consideration to what you load on bottom vs top of cab or no real reason to get that pedantic over it? Thanks so much!
Just what the tube shortage ordered. Nice. What guitar are you playing today, Glen?
How does it sound with one of those spectre high res IR's? Oh that's right WE DONT HAVE THEM YET!!!!!!
I want my high res coffee cab with fredmans on the v30 and k100, fricker!
that sounds killer. hearing the bleed through really gives a good idea what it's cranking out.
Ok. Now I’m going to have to check out this mini soldano for myself. Damn. Now I might be getting myself yet another piece of new gear. Thanks Glen! Lol.
Awww... It's so small and cute!
Dumb question but do I need a DI if I have a hi-z input in my soundcard?
I've seen a few amps come out recently where "the numbers all go to eleven". Nice homage to Spinal Tap there
Also just putting it out there since we know your right hand has gotten stronger I wanna see you do some punk riffing, you know what I mean same notes just bounce off the string on the 1 and the 5 in 8th notes. Palm mute the rest, bounce for the best!!
Just found your channel ... Refreshing to say the very least fella .. sound as a pound kidder 👏👏👏👏 cheers 😁
Sounds good! Very nice amp!!!
How about the Wangs HD30? Soldano style sound, handwired and not mass produced.
Glen, have fun at NAMM!
What's an affordable cab to plug this sucker into? my bday's coming up so....;.
No comparison to the Soldano behind you so that we have some kind of reference? Did I miss it? 🤔
Great track! 🖤
I was hoping to see if this would be good with pedals or not
Glen you pulled out a great Megadeth deep cut there . Better get this one before they jack up the price ; )
