As a simple retired "hewer of wood and drawer of water" living in an igloo here in the Colony of Canada, I was pleasantly surprised to discover your wonderful series "Jeeves and Wooster". Wow! I did a bit of TV camera and studio work, but I can't imagine the difficulty in arranging the sets; the cars; the buildings; the streets; the costumes; the landscape shots, etc., to do such a series! As a career electrician, I often considered trying to break into the movie business (as an electrician) but never got around to it. I would have moved to the Moon to be an electrician involved with the set of Steven Fry and Hugh Laurie! Thanks so much for your work and talent.
Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry were only in their 30s when this series was filmed! Amazing actors. The series is utter perfection in a way that only the British can achieve.
It's not too late for Fry and Laurie as Holmes and Watson! Remember, the stories continued until Sherlock's retirement! I think this needs to happen. It would be equally as epic as Benedict and Martin.
It;s funny that Laurie says he's more comfortable with the buffoon role that that of someone "smug and all knowing", seeing as he went on to to House. XD He's just so talented all around, I bet he could have played a convincing jeeves if he wanted to. But they definitely picked the right order imho.
There are a lot of people who hopes Fry & Laurie to play Col. Pickering & Prof. Higgins, in the remake version of My Fair Lady film in 2010 (screenplay by Emma Thompson, the old Cambridge colleague of Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie) with Keira Knightley who'll play Eliza Doolittle.
That is true. Mental illnesses such as bi-polar isn't something that "just" happens suddenly. It something someone can suffer from for a very long time and have lapses in their condition.
Does anybody know where I can find more behind-the-scenes footage or even bloopers of J&W? This clip is quite literally the only BTS footage I can find, which is sad in comparison to other great British shows like Blackadder, which had plenty of BTS footage and bloopers.
Well, there IS speculation that it can be brought on by some kind of trauma, kinda kicked into action, as it were. After all, most people with bipolar aren't diagnosed until their early to mid 20s :)
Most “dated” comments don't faze me, but as someone who considers both RDJ Sherlock Holmes movies to be my favorite movies, seeing a comment saying Fry's “going to be Mycroft Holmes...in a year” absolutely blew my mind. How time flew. 😅
There is - and I say this as someone from Yorkshire, England - no such thing as a "British" accent. Britain includes England, Scotland and Wales and the counties there-in. All the accents differ greatly. I presume you mean the accent of Hugh Grant and the ilk......only a tiny minority of us Brits speak like that. And we're not all cockney's either.
I know that I was just pointing out how cute it was she was that much shorter. I am 5'0 and my boyfriend Avi is 6'8 1/2 so I know all about tall/short relationships
on house fry should have gotten the role of wilson also i think sherlock holmes be brilliant. and i know laurie's real accent is british but being so use to house hearing this it seems like the British accent is being faked
2023. I've just rewatched the entire series.
Innocent pleasure at its best.
I can't believe this has been on youtube for eleven years and I've never seen it before. Thank you ever so much for uploading.
And imagine you beat me by THREE years😁
I hope Fry and Laurie do something again soon. Their solo work is brilliant but they have something special when they work together too.

I accidentally came up a Jeeves alarm clock, voiced by Stephen Fry. "Excuse me Madam, the prime minister is on the telephone."
The RUclips algorithm has finally recommended a corker of a video. **chuffed**

Did you know Fry played Mycroft Holmes?
This show is the absolute BEST!
I come back again and again to this clip for one reason: 1:20-1:23. Thanks, Aschere!
Fry saying he'd been trying to get rid of the man is absolutely hilarious. 🤣
5 people are crazy. how is it possible to dislike Jeeves and Wooster or Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie?
"Ahh. Nothing to do with having got planned sideways then?"
LOL!
*having got the plans sideways
I know, I think I personally would die from excitement!
That would be so fantastic...
True. People have bi-polar and events in their lives contribute to their good and bad times.
Hugh, Fry is TWO years older than you! LOL! But yes, Stephen Fry always seemed older even when he was younger.
Thanks for posting this Aschere.
I think that's not because those people really dislike Jeeves and Wooster, but mainly because of the video quality. : )
It;s funny that Laurie says he's more comfortable with the buffoon role that that of someone "smug and all knowing", seeing as he went on to to House. Did you see Cumberbatch and Freeman in the meantime on BBC's Sherlock? It's worth it, believe me.
Oh, I would give anything to see Fry and Laurie as Sherlock and Watson. Stephen as Holmes, I think.
I just love how Hugh switches into Bertie for a moment, 1:20
"Like a wet weekend in Chalfont St Giles."
Such banter!
Hello, 15 year old video. Will RUclips still be around 15 years from now? 🤔
Hear hear! Especially the bit about long words!
Стивен, Вы бесподобны! Прошу, отправьте "Привет" преданному фанату из России! Вы-лучший!
would've loved seeing fry and laurie as holmes and watson....though i see fry as wilson and laurie as holmes
a sherlock holmes and watson duo, eh? now that would be pretty sweet.
I love hugh laurie!!!!!
Hugh is 6'3, Stephen 6'5. The show cast tall supporting actors so as not to make them stand out.
The mention of a possible Fry/Laurie Holmes/Watson would've been so good...
I'd like to see Fry do some episodes of House
Dude Hugh and Stephen just rock my socks. why can't i have a cool british accent?

@HorrorFrogPrincess
I'd love to see Stephen as Sherlock Holmes - that would be a dream come true!

1:20-1:23 has just made my life
ROFL
It was quite Prince George of him
That would be fantastic! Where did you hear that?
having played higgins, i'd say they'd make a stunning pair... the chemistry between the two
I'm only sad the series didn't have a serious love interest for Bertie, only so we could see more like 2:37.😂
@FoxDougan fry should guest star on house that be somewhat of a riot i got it he should be a butler with an illness brilliant!
This was before the "problem", although Fry probably lived with bi-polar disorder for years. It's not something that suddenly occurs.
At 2 seconds did anyone see how tall that lady had to reach up just to comb Laurie's hair?
Is that tony wilson asking the question around 1:09?
How about Laurie as Holmes and Fry as Moriarty ?
Or Mycroft, whom he played? 😉
Well, there IS speculation that it can be brought on by some kind of trauma, kinda kicked into action, as it were. After all, most people with bipolar aren't diagnosed until their early to mid 20s :)
@Shikahan I would love to see an episode with the roles reversed. :)
Well he's going to be Mycroft Holmes in the next Holmes movies, coming out in a year's time.
Most “dated” comments don't faze me, but as someone who considers both RDJ Sherlock Holmes movies to be my favorite movies, seeing a comment saying Fry's “going to be Mycroft Holmes...in a year” absolutely blew my mind. How time flew. 😅
Actually Stephen fry had manic depression even during University but he coped with it during his acting.
@Bobman4671 he still doesn't have an american accent. He fakes it to play House.
Gluben: this was before Fry's mental problems.
Spongenat: 95% of us Brits DON'T have an accent like this!
Don't think so. As you say - Ben and Martin are epic and cannot be topped. And that's nothing against Fry or Laurie - they're absolutely genius.
2:37 hehe

That would be quite epic. But I couldn't take them seriously after watching this show...
Awwwwh skinny stephen
And buildings in Washington are limited to one third the height of hte Washington monument.
I know that I was just pointing out how cute it was she was that much shorter. I am 5'0 and my boyfriend Avi is 6'8 1/2 so I know all about tall/short relationships
oh, wow! that is a hight difference :-)
Does manhattan really consist of granite?
I heard it was a swamp.
on house fry should have gotten the role of wilson also i think sherlock holmes be brilliant. and i know laurie's real accent is british but being so use to house hearing this it seems like the British accent is being faked
People make comments, everywhere we go...
Ditto.
Em. No. I love Laurie and I adore Fry - but I'm already smitten by Cumberbatch als Sherlock. So - no way, sorry ;-).
...& I'm one of them
Back when he didn't have quite an american accent
Wow
He still doesn't. 😂
I wish they did Sherlock Holmes instead of the americans!
Well, you do know Fry played Mycroft in that movie, don't you?
