I like the guy. Great character from Ponyo movie. I liked how he is trying to protect his kids, but not everything goes as planned, and he has to deal with the chaos Ponyo unleashed. I like how he is not a villain. Just a very worried and harsh parent who has to make sure the sea is alright.

For some reason, in my story, Fujimoto was half Japanese half Irish, born around 1850 and well-known in the victorian society as the youngest science prodigy. He started his career as a naturalist by the age of 15. But, a series of unfortunate events made him to abandon everyting and search his fortune in other continents. His had always been a very lonely and closed person, but his sudden academical failure made him a cynical misanthrope. Ending up in India, he had the luck to meet someone who knew captain Nemo (aka Prince Dakkar) in person. Grace to his talent and lust for knowledge, Fujimoto became the captain´s apprentice, decided never to contact with the human world again. The unjust death of the captain only gave rise to his misanthropism, that lead to his obsession to get rid of his human nature.

I just adore this character. It's funny how he's the only one with a clear arc even if he wasn't anything beyond mildly antagonistic. I like how this song caught me off guard when I first heard it because they went through that extra mile to write him a lyrical song outside the film. I'll forever love this serious and clumsy man.
Fujimoto is not only my favorite movie character, he is, in a way, my inspiration. He´s my exaple of the complete dedication, of inner moral fighting the conditioned misanthropy... I have to confess that, being myself a long-haired marine biologist who doesn´t like humans that much, I do identify me with him :)
ponyo was literally the first movie i ever saw as a child, it somehow really stuck and now as a fellow crazy biologist (with not that long hair but hey at least it's ginger!) who is very fond of fish and silly fashion, i'm agreeing very aggressively from my own isolated whimsical corner where i'm lurking. my fishies arent very talkative but they'd say hi :)
