Elliott's was a great grocery store. I remember growing up my parents and I would go there. If we ever had a party, we would always order from there. They had the best chicken, and other good stuff. It's sad it closed in 2010
Wonderful video. I especially loved seeing the old electric buses. I lived by Blackhawk Park., went to the Will, and ate at Central Gyros. I now live near the late great Elliott's. Still a Northwest Sider. Thank you for the memories, I would love to see more, like Blackhawk Park, my old school St. Stan's, home of the best carnival and Foreman (74) High School.
Grew up 3800 block of Sayer starting in 1953. Best friend Randy Landis from 3900 block of Nordica was like a bother I never had and Kathy Christensen from 3700 block of Oconto was like my sister as we were growing up. Had paper routes that covered from Harlem to Oak Park Ave and from Irving to Addison. Went to St. Priscilla's school until the beginning of 8th grade and transferred to St. Pascal's on Irving. Went to Holy Cross & transferred to Steinmetz HS. Was a rollerskating guard at The Hub, The Axel in Niles and Knight Palace in Palatine. Was known as the guy in black because I always wore black at the rink. Owner Continental Electrical Services until 1988 then moved to WI. Yes, I remember so many of those pictures. Thanks for the great memories.
+Dennis Aitken Hey Dennis.I grew up at 3911 Sayre and also went to St. Priscilla. Then to Gordon Tech, at my Irish-Catholic mother's insistence. I would have preferred Lane. 4-5 years at the Hub every Saturday afternoon.
+Dale Fitzgibbons Maybe I should know you but I knew Jimmy quite well. Jimmy also knew Randy and Kathy. What ever happen to Bobby Shepherd down the block? Contact info here is dennis@mia.net
I knew many of these places. What fun to see them. We lived right near Neva and Diversey where the bus turned around. Used to be a pizza place there for years. The smell of that pizza on a cold winters' day was great!
Oh wow, I lived on Kostner and worked and saw movies at the Marbro theater and the Paradise theater..I wish there were videos, pics, and stuff for the West Side area.
Thanks for the memories..To think we'd go to the theaters, River View, Sears, and bakeries. We moved around the first 8 years of my life, then lived at 4850 W Concord. By North and Cicero. Wish those times were back. Even if we didn't have computers...lol
I grew up on the NW side lived there for 25 years then joined the Navy and bought a farm in central Missouri .... this video made me really homesick and very Hungry
OMG! Absolutely loved it...made my week. Sooo many wonderful memories. I couldn't help but notice so many taken around Harlem/Irving/Addison....especially the pic of Bruce + Ken's...I lived in back of Bruce's all my life...went to kindergarten at Bridge and then St. Priscilla's, then Steinmetz. Would love to find out if you were from this immediate area...so many of us are connecting on FB. Check out the FB Page..."Northwest Side, the best side of Chicago"...great videos there too.
From not living there, I knew so many of those places because my Aunt and Uncle lived around Belmont and Laramie. Or maybe closer to Diversey and Laramie. We always went to Riis Park and had picnics.
My parents shopped at Elliot’s quite often. Whenever we had a big gathering or a party, we would get the chicken from there. It was always delicious. Just sad a lot of these little grocery stores are gone
I lived on the northwest side of Chicago for some time then moved to the suburbs of Chicago. Surprising how some of the places in the video are still open!
Was born on Nelson Avenue in '64, then we moved to 2414 W. Fletcher Street. We were a block from the Western Avenue overpass and about 2 blocks away from the AWESOME Riverview Amusement Park !!!!! Does anyone remember the Belmont Roller rink ? I was walking home from school (Linne Grammar school on Sacramento) and watched the rink burn to the ground.... Very sad.
I have been to almost everyplace in your in your video. Grew up at Shabonna and Bell parks, cosuins owned the foremost and franksville. This was great. Thirsty Whale anybody?
Lockwood Castle and "The Giant Killer"...basically a 9 x 13" glass pan loaded with ice cream, sauce loads of whipped cream and nuts and bananas! As I recall, their menus said "A stomach pump is available on call at all times"... !

I loved your video but don't you have a teeny tiny picture of the old Buffalo's ice cream parlor that was there for years on Irving Park & pulaski? Can't wait to get back & hope Vince's pizza never closed!
Hey Jack , where is St . Patrick H.S. and Kilbourn Park or Six Corners ? And let’s not forget Spargas Italian Restaurant on Central and Diversey ! Greatest neighborhood to grow up in , but then again Chicago is the Greatest city in the U.S.A.

That was such a great place. I grew up on the northwest side for the first 8 years of my life, and I lived in such a great community. I lived about a block from Norridge, and about three blocks from Harwood Heights. There are still great places like Russell’s and Gene and Jude’s.
Lived at Nottingham and Grace. Bridge school and Steinmetz. What great pictures! That neighborhood rocked!!!

Awesome edit, Jack! Brings so many great memories back.
Chris's Billiards, innocent looking but on weekends some of the biggest money games in the Midwest, this was not amateur time.

By the way 2:36 is a complete ghetto now i used to live on Fullerton and Cicero and we had all kinds of shootings and stabbings
Thanks but can you eliminate all the fancy editing effects, they shorten the time we actually get to see the pictures and reduces their size.
I'll bet you can't guess what the Pause button is for. ⏸
