I have a converted 21SF, totally awesome, in the-beginning a lot of stove pipes and hanging, installed Rowland mag spring, has fired without any problems since....
@@scottterry1659 Scott, that's not fair. The .460 Rowland is almost always a 5 inch or less barrel, while I'm assuming your Blackhawk has a longer barrel. With 5 inch barrels, the .460 Rowland is very similar to the .44 magnum.
Being from the UK this is the first time I have heard of this calibre. It's pretty impressive and another one to add to my bucket list of things to shoot! Another great review looking forward to seeing the gel test.

Mrgunsngear Channel They used Canon 5D's to shoot Act Of Valor. Maybe one of those would suffice. Heck, 3 or 4 for reverse angles and such. ;) Seriously, great job!
Ive shot a 1911 converted to this 460 Rowland and thought it was mild recoil. The 1911 is heavier though. The guy had it for a bear side arm. It was very accurate and chronographed very similarly to a 44 mag we were testing. It definitely makes me consider it as a bear side arm, just not sure what gun to convert. 1911 might be best, I just wonder what the extra stress does to polymer pistols in long run.
I've had a 460 1911 for several years. It's easy to load using 45ACP dies. But it's a hot cartridge and loads must be worked up carefully. What is safe in one gun is NOT automatically safe in another. I prefer the "tactical" loads around 700ft/lb. Recoil is not bad at all. And the brass lasts a lot longer. But don't even think about lead bullets. The barrel will lead up in a heartbeat. Maybe something in a really hard alloy would work.
Mine = Glock21SF Gen III, shoot 255 solid and 230 fmj all day long. I have small hands so that is why I use the SF series. It is not hard to convert...but read and comply with the instructions. If you have feed failures, most of the time it is the weak Glock magazine spring. After installing Rowland springs, no feed problems. Just recently fast fired over 100 rounds 255 460r solid and 230 FMJ 45 acp, no failures...With the Rowland spring it is very hard to load the mags, so until it is worked more, I only load 10 rounds... 44 Mag is around 38-43,000 cup, the 460 R is 40,000. Barrel jump and pistol control mild compared to my SW and ruger 44 mag's. Follow up shots a lot faster. Now I only have a 460R and no magnum's. I bought mine from Rowland store in Tulsa, Ok. nicest people and best customer service ever.
First time shooting the 460, recoil was definitely challenging. Kept getting type 2 malfunctions/failure to eject but nothing a lil Tap/Rack couldn't solve. Held 5" at 50yds, took it to 200m holding on a 20" x 40" and first round hit. I've only shot this caliber that one time and I absolutely loved it! I think you did an awesome job explaining what you'd get your hands on w/460.
G21SF / converted same issues, then bought and installed Rowland mag springs, fired 45acp 185, 45acp 230, and Rowland 255 hard cast........fires and cycles flawlessly.....
Thank you for your honest review of the 460 Rowland brother. I have one its a 1911 but just wanted to say you are spot on about the Rowland not being for the novice shooter. I myself just love big guns I shoot a 454 casull and a 460 S&W magnum although they do pale the Rowland in terms of recoil i do agree with you that that Rowland does deserve some caution and respect, good shooting by the way and a great video.
Got a Springfield XDm with the 460 conversion. AND I LOVE IT. Super hard-hitting, great handgun for it, and it pushes power up to the rarified levels of 1000 ft-lbs + with Underwood 185 grain or 460 Rowland.com's 185 grain ammo. Without a doubt, it's the hardest hitting gun of that power level and capacity and cost you can find.
Yeah, I just ran across this site wanting to check out this cartridge and I want something different as I have a 10mm. There are a lot of ways to go with the Glock 20/21 frame kit.
Great video as always! Great Caliber! Just converted my Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0 and could not be happier! Your video is one factor that convinced me to buy the conversion.

Added a 5.2” KKM barrel and Purchased the Rowland Comp. Installed the Pure Tungsten Guide Rod 22 Pound Spring from GS. I handload for Alaska Trail with 250/255gr just over 1100 FPS. Excellent results in G21 Gen 4 .
As an addition for those who are hand loaders, 460 rowland performance can be had in 45 acp brass if your barrel has full case support (up to the extractor groove) and the requisite compensator. Glock and springfield have aftermarket barrels that provide full case support. For those that have a 1911 with a non ramped barrel, you will require a threaded barrel, either a 460 barrel and brass or 45 super brass (also stronger in the web than acp) in a 45 acp chambered threaded barrel. But for those who choose to use standard acp brass to create rowland level loads, do your due diligence to make sure that they only end up in the guns designed for it.
Nice...I am looking to do a conversion to upgrade my G21 for a better woods sidearm. I was originally considering 45 Super conversion. Your thoughts on 460 Rowland vs 45 Super
@@ZFlyingVLover you may have to use a lighter spring on standard 45 acp after that. I'm doing a 45 super conversion and looks like all if requires is its own strengthened brass, aftermarket barrel (unknown if it's required) and a 22-24lb recoil spring
There was an instance of this round being used to stop a charging bear, which it did. The bear was cut into in an attempt to determine the bullet penetration. The bullet entered the skull and penetrated all the way down to the pad of its rear leg! The bear was low to the ground in charge mode when struck by the bullet and its rear legs were extended behind it, allowing the bullet to penetrate the full extent of the bear. Its on a video I saw on RUclips.
Awesome video man, I've been toying around with getting the 460 conversion for a few months now and you have just made up my mind. My XD Tactical will now have a little extra "bang" to it! Thanks man, keep the videos coming!
i often wonder why Special operations don't use the 10mm and the /460 rowland on certain mission profiles. they both seem like the get the job done type of ammo... terminal ballistics are excellent.
Weight, capacity, follow-up shot placement, parts, tested ammo, and reliability. The pistol is their second option firearm. There's no reason for them to use the larger calibers.
They do use these chamberings and calibers. They just don't advertise the fact too much. But unless the folks at 460 Rowland are stretching the truth, their conversions are already in use in the special ops community. If you are line doggie, a normal infantryman, you get what you are issued, but the top-tier special ops people in the U.S. and elsewhere tend to get a lot of latitude in how they arm and equip themselves, along with generous budgets to do so.
Looks like the weather you had also produced some great editing! I really like the "epic" music at the beginning while seeing the weapon and the weapon firing. It is a cool effect for sure. Very interesting round. Those are some crazy energy numbers for a semi auto!
I have yet to find a threaded conversion barrel. LWD is where I learned about this chambering for a compensater kit, but I don't see the LWD conversion barrel.
I saw this cartridge fired out of a MAC 10 back in the late 90's or early 2000's and I never thought it would see the light of day. 15 or so years later and this is the first I've heard of it in that time. I thought it was an OP cartridge that had been lost due to poor sales, but I guess it's safe to say it's gaining in popularity.
Please do a vid on the Double Tap 450 SMC (Short Magnum Cartridge), It's an interesting round made by a .308 case and has a small rifle primer instead on a large pistol primer for more strength. The 450 smc can be fired from the 460 Rowland conversion.
I can find so little information about 450 SMC on the Internet. Who told you or where did you read that it can be fired from the 460 Rowland conversion?
Really cool! I like how you're actually knowledgeable on the topic of guns. A lot of guys start a shooting channel, repeat myths as gospel, or just have no understanding of what they're talking about. You do a good job. That .460 definitely seems like something worth owning!
Know this is old video. But I have a 21 and want to take it to Wyoming for bear protection. With conversations what was your experience with reliably and jamming.
460R over 10mm in my opinion. 44 mag capabilities in a M&P, Glock, Xd, 1911, USP, FNX? And I can still shoot cheaper 45 acp through it? Hell yea!!! I couldn’t get into the 10mm because of lack of high capacity handguns out there (Glock and Tangfolio or what ever) and you can only shoot 10 mm which is a little more expensive and harder to find. Great vid man!
Just got this kit a few months ago. haven't been able to send many rounds down range but I did get the chance to use up a couple mags. Question is, with the recoil, which there is plenty of, do you find this damaging your G21? Do you see any more wear and tear than you would just using +p? That's the only thing that worries me every time I pull that trigger. Fun as hell and very impressed but I love my Glock 21C and I don't wanna hurt her.
Hi. I have a 460 Rowland with a light/laser attached. I watched your review and I wish to know what holster you are using or can recommend for this type of set up? Thanks.
Excellent vid! I've done the 460 Rowland conversion kit on my Glock model 20 gen 3 also. And I love it! I had a little trouble with feeding issues the first year, but without changing anything at all IE: Springs or hand loads, the second year it is performing flawlessly. I don't know what changed but I'm happy it did. I'm thinking of doing another conversion when I pick up a model 30 for EDC. One thing I like about the 460 Rowland conversion, you can shoot .45GAP, (with the original spring in it), .45 auto, .45+P, .45 super, and 460 Rowland making it a highly versatile gun.
Great info, thanks. Does the mag spring need to be switched back to Glock factory spring when going back to shooting 45acp in a standard G21 or can you leave the 460 Rowland rec'd mag spring in your mag? Also, can you shoot 45acp in the Rowland conversion (like the 44mag/ 44spec)?
one article said PD's are selling their .357sig and .40s&w guns for the 9mm as the former 2 were cracking frames and wearing out the guns...the only one I know of is the border patrol's beretta 96d in .40 but that was due to bad design, sharp corners instead of proper radius (more prone to cracking).
I was wondering the Glock 21 with the thread barrel and No compensator for the 460 Rowland would work in my 45ACP - MCK conversion kit. I know the break reduces the rise , but it's looks like it also secure and keeps the barrel more secure as well. Thoughts please
I was surprised to see it being shot out of a polymer framed pistol. I would have figured that it might have been too much for it. I would have thought an aluminum frame would also wear much faster and only a steel frame would be up to the challenge. My dream heavy gun would be a Para-Ordnance P14 steel frame and 6"barrel and slide in 460 with the SFS system installed. It might not be able to take a rhino, hippo, or elephant but any thing else is dead meat.
I'd like to know how the frame holds up after 8,000 rounds using underwood full power ammo vs 45 acp and 9mm. Specifically if there are more micro fissures under sonic topographical detection.
I own a G21SF / 460 Rowland, my favorite pistol, definitely get the upgraded mag spring. Many stove pipes and hanging, after installing spring in mag's, none...................
I have 3 460 conversion, a lone wolf, a clark for 1911, and true Rowland for glock, do not, I say do NOT use the Lone Wolf muzzle break, im an extremely experienced shooter and the amount of muzzle blast the lone wolf throws back at you startled me, id go with something other than what they offer
With the magazine spring from the 460 rowland website does it decrease the magazine capacity? Also will do you have any experience with the XDM conversion? If not do you plan on doing a review of that one? I know I would be someone who has a lot of interest in this caliber and I look forward to the ballistics gel test.
Just wondering if you've tried the 450 SMC. I know it's not the thumper this round is but curious to know what you think of it as compared to standard .45 ACP and this dude.
Joe Riggio, yes you would be able to hunt deer size game with this conversion, it gives you true 44 magnum velocities out of a.45 auto pistol. I've run mine through a chronograph and it does exactly what its claims to do.
A proper comp allows gas to drive the barrel forward in in addition to venting it upward, reducing the rearward thrust which could batter the frame....
Hello. I have been watching your videos for sometime now. I was looking for a bear gun and I came across this conversion. I want to do it to an xd45 tactical. But, I wanted to see how your plastic is holding up to the new round? How's the frame and slide looking? Any excessive damage? How many rounds have you put through it?
If you decided to put the .45 components back in the gun, would you be able to use the upgraded mag springs, or would you have to switch that back out too?
What I would be concerned about, is if you used this for defense against bears, what level of damage would be done to your hearing with the compensator?
Great video - did you use the recoil buffer with your G21? Running .460 Rowland in my G21 for hunting and had terrible success with Johnny's Defense Against Large & Dangerous game. The round tumbles out of the barrel, ended up using and loving Buffalo Bore ammo.
Great video and I agree with Steelers fan your videos are getting better and better. Also do you know if it is at all possible to convert the Glock model 20 10 mm to 460 rowland? If not why?
Be cool to have one for the 41. Also are those standard 45acp projectiles, or do you have to buy specific Rowland bullets? I handload, and that would be cheap.
I personally wouldn't want the kit for the 41. The 21 is a heavier built gun. Barrel and slide are thicker. The 41 has more felt recoil than the 21 as it is.
Very interested in this conversion. One question for you. How do you clean the barrel? I assume you have to remove the compensator each time? Any issues that you have run into while cleaning would be appreciated. Thanks!
Bob Smith The barrel cams up and there's plenty of room to clean under it. I'd imagine after a couple thousand rounds you'd have to pull it though for a more detailed cleaning
What is the potential for slide seperation or catastrophic failure in this weapon set up. The glock 21 is built to handle the lower pressured .45acp at 20,000 PSI. How is a 460 rowland round at DOUBLE the pressure not tearing the frame apart?
The heavier recoil spring and compensator are meant to slow down the slide and stop the gun from battering itself to death. My 1911 setup with a 460 Rowland was showing some premature wear signs, so I just started plinking with standard 45 and running the Rowland when in the woods.
The 460 conversion takes a high-strength barrel to withstand the high pressures of this cartridge. A few makes of handgun are strong-enough in original form, and can converted as is (slight reaming out of the chamber), but other handguns need an entire 460 barrel installed. The greatly-increased slide velocity is dealt with by installing a much stiffer recoil spring, and also some other enhancements to tame the 460 Rowland tiger.
Holy moses. Look at those chrono readings. Talk about getting hit with one of those and not being able to get back up. I have heard of 460 but sweet jesus actually seeing it. I bet its a blast to shoot until your fingers start tingling.
The Smith M&P is a little more to it putting it together than the Glock. Mine came with 2 set screws for the Compensator and the recoil assembly was a little tougher to get in but I am very glad I did the conversion. I started out shooting some Underwood 45 ACP+P 185gr and then some Underwood 45 Super (I had both left over when I sold my 1911) but when I started shooting the Underwood 460 Rowland everyone at the range took notice of this hand cannon! I got a lot of comments!

lefthookricky Have you moved away from the communist republic yet?
The ballistics of the .460 are practically identical to the .44 Magnum. The .460 gives you the advantage of a higher capacity and faster rate of fire.
And a bigger diameter
Actually slower rate of fire but higher capacoty and identeical power but that being said there isnt as much ammo available

I couldn’t get into the 10mm because of lack of high capacity handguns out there (Glock and Tangfolio or what ever) and you can only shoot 10 mm which is a little more expensive and harder to find. Great vid man!
I shoot 40 s&w in my g20 and g29. No problems. Brass falls at your feet. I've put 2-3 thousand rounds between the two down range. They're still going.
Just scored a kit for $200. Going on a spare G21 frame.
If the conversion barrel dropped right in to the 45acp slide, I'd bet the stock 45acp barrel is strong enough for the Rowland round.
Anthony Lanci Haven't seen any damage.
Great review as always!
One thing I like about the 460 Rowland conversion, you can shoot .45GAP, (with the original spring in it), .45 auto, .45+P, .45 super, and 460 Rowland making it a highly versatile gun.
interesting
How the hell?
460 rowland in a mechtech carbine?? you could still fire .45 out of it... thoughts?????
Those Glocks can do it ALL. Nice review!
Yes, yes they can :D
Great info, thanks. Does the mag spring need to be switched back to Glock factory spring when going back to shooting 45acp in a standard G21 or can you leave the 460 Rowland rec'd mag spring in your mag? Also, can you shoot 45acp in the Rowland conversion (like the 44mag/ 44spec)?
Yes, 45 acp, 45 acp+p, 45 Super
cool kit. that pressure difference is pretty significant. is that a long term concern at all as far as frame wear?
Haven't noticed any extra but maybe. As always preventative maintenance and parts replacement goes a long way.
one article said PD's are selling their .357sig and .40s&w guns for the 9mm as the former 2 were cracking frames and wearing out the guns...the only one I know of is the border patrol's beretta 96d in .40 but that was due to bad design, sharp corners instead of proper radius (more prone to cracking).
Yu Toob Indeed
I was wondering the Glock 21 with the thread barrel and No compensator for the 460 Rowland would work in my 45ACP - MCK conversion kit. I know the break reduces the rise , but it's looks like it also secure and keeps the barrel more secure as well. Thoughts please
Great production, great content. Thanks Sir.
Specifically if there are more micro fissures under sonic topographical detection.
thanks for the report!
I own a G21SF / 460 Rowland, my favorite pistol, definitely get the upgraded mag spring. Many stove pipes and hanging, after installing spring in mag's, none...................
thanks for the report
Very interesting besides the upcoming gel test maybe a 10 mm 460 Rowland comparison hand canon vs hand canon, nice video as usual!
Do ballistic gel test on the Rowland and 10mm
As usual, great video. What weight spring are you using?
Is there a video of the 460 Rowland shooting 45acp
Awesome!! a 9x25 dillion conversion review would be cool too!
That is a smoking cartridge
Mrgunsngear Channel
I quit smoking a few years back, but I would still love to try that round when someday I get a longslide for my G20.
Lol I dig the new masked endings. Like " Yeah you know what's up"
:D
Do they sell upgraded springs for extended Glock mags?
First I've heard of this cartridge. Thanks for sharing the info!
Thanks for watching.
I have 3 460 conversion, a lone wolf, a clark for 1911, and true Rowland for glock, do not, I say do NOT use the Lone Wolf muzzle break, im an extremely experienced shooter and the amount of muzzle blast the lone wolf throws back at you startled me, id go with something other than what they offer
thanks for the report
Thanks for that. Been looking at conversions - I'd rather handle recoil than blast from an obnoxious brake.
With the magazine spring from the 460 rowland website does it decrease the magazine capacity?
Also will do you have any experience with the XDM conversion? If not do you plan on doing a review of that one? I know I would be someone who has a lot of interest in this caliber and I look forward to the ballistics gel test.
Capacity is still 13+1. Haven't used the XDM conversion.
Good to know thanks for the info.
Just wondering if you've tried the 450 SMC. I know it's not the thumper this round is but curious to know what you think of it as compared to standard .45 ACP and this dude.
Coolest part was the head nod at the end. You have to just start making that a part of the routine
Next video will have it too :D
What is the length of barrel with G21 460 Rowland minus Comp ?
Do a video on the 960 Rowland
Great video and from what I saw this conversion can turn a Glock 20 into a hunting cartridge for deer sized game?
Joe Riggio,
yes you would be able to hunt deer size game with this conversion, it gives you true 44 magnum velocities out of a.45 auto pistol. I've run mine through a chronograph and it does exactly what its claims to do.
Great video. Looking forward to seeing the gel test.
Thank you. It's nasty.
Maybe you can do a 10MM Mag comparison to this .460R? The only thing is that there is no possibility of the 10MM Mag in a Glock. OR IS THERE?
I am hearing different info on: with the .460 kit installed, can you shoot .45 acp and .45 super? Thanks, Gary
From my G21 conversion I can shoot .45 super, .45+P and warm .45acp reloads with no problems. Standard .45 ammo will have some stovepipes.
why compensated barrel over the ported long barrel?
The ported barrel is designed for people living in ban states.
A proper comp allows gas to drive the barrel forward in in addition to venting it upward, reducing the rearward thrust which could batter the frame....
According to the Rowland website. You will experience 15-20% more recoil and muzzle flip with ported as compared to a compensator
+Adam Seeley No issues at all. Probably 750ish
How about put a link up where to order this conversion
I no right
Love the .460 I run it in my 2011 custom. Clark custom. Great vid
Nice.
If you decided to put the .45 components back in the gun, would you be able to use the upgraded mag springs, or would you have to switch that back out too?
You could but remember the factory springs are timed with the action. So, you may have problems. May not...
What I would be concerned about, is if you used this for defense against bears, what level of damage would be done to your hearing with the compensator?
a good bit I'd imagine
Great video - did you use the recoil buffer with your G21?
Running .460 Rowland in my G21 for hunting and had terrible success with Johnny's Defense Against Large & Dangerous game. The round tumbles out of the barrel, ended up using and loving Buffalo Bore ammo.
oldMan Slickville I don't believe in recoil buffers unless they're integral (i.e. 92A1). Otherwise it's a recipe for issues in my opinion.
They are standard 45.
I personally wouldn't want the kit for the 41. The 21 is a heavier built gun. Barrel and slide are thicker. The 41 has more felt recoil than the 21 as it is.
No kidding, I didn't know that.
Awesome. Thanks for the input. Keep up the solid work on your channel.
Nice review like always
Thank you.
Oh hell a glock I want. That's Too kool... 45, nah I'm rolling 460Rowland:) look forward to your gel testing for certain. Great review as always. TNJR
Thank you.
Is it worth choosing to go this rout or buying a G20 w/ a 40 S&W barrel? Your thoughts!!!!
Great vid.. Thanks for sharing this great info. BTW, what song do you have towards the end of your video? Thanks!
sugarman454 Thank you. Not sure on the song off the top of my head.
Like, like double dog like. My next Glockenstien conversion and reloading adventure. I'm looking forward to the ballistic tests.
Ditto.
Holy moses. Look at those chrono readings. Talk about getting hit with one of those and not being able to get back up. I have heard of 460 but sweet jesus actually seeing it. I bet its a blast to shoot until your fingers start tingling.
Indeed. :D
When you have that muzzle brake (when it is loc-tighted down), how do you remove the barrel for cleaning, etc.?
+William Randolph you slide it. Eventually after thousands of rounds you'll probably have to remove to clean though
Wow. Just, wow... really neat. Not a big caliber guy with sidearms but that is pretty sweet!
Thanks
The Smith M&P is a little more to it putting it together than the Glock. Mine came with 2 set screws for the Compensator and the recoil assembly was a little tougher to get in but I am very glad I did the conversion. I started out shooting some Underwood 45 ACP+P 185gr and then some Underwood 45 Super (I had both left over when I sold my 1911) but when I started shooting the Underwood 460 Rowland everyone at the range took notice of this hand cannon! I got a lot of comments!
I would like to.know the comparison between the 10mm n 460 Rowland
Run the numbers in a calculator 👍🏼
Would love to see this out if the glock 41 if they make a conversion kit for it.
Likely it won't happen due to the smaller slide hole.
Can you recommend a holster with open muzzle end to compensate for the brake also with the use of a TLR1 light
+James Franco if you email RKBAHolsters.com and let them know I sent you they'll make you one
+Mrgunsngear Channel ok thanks
Looking to upgrade the 21 Gen 4 to the 45 super, what parts would I need? Any links?
