I ended up buying a Taylorcraft for the right price and waived on buying the Kolb. I still like the Kolb however and think it is a great plane. @@greggschachterleppc2769
If there were a passenger, is there a way to communicate? Or is it to loud? also, is there enough room for any small luggage behind the seat? How fast does it go? and what distance before a refill?
Hello Scott, Communication with passenger is done via headsets (intercom) as it is quite loud inside. But all ultra light planes have the same situation. There is no place behind the seats and you do hot have to go above 150-160kg (330-350lbs I believe). Cruise speed is 100km/h (62mph), maximum 110km/h (68mph), VNE 140km/h (86mph). If you have 2 tanks of 25l each (6.6 gal), you can fly about 2.5h maximum. This plane takes about 15-18l/h (3.9 - 4.7 gal/h). Hope it helps. Cheers!
Hello, Rotax 503 is on the lower end of the power spectrum for this aircraft. The Kolb Mark III typically performs better with engines in the 65-80 HP range. With 50 HP, the Rotax 503 can fly the Kolb Mark III, but performance will be more limited, especially when flying with heavier loads or at higher altitudes. Expect slower climb rates and reduced top speed. With this engine, you can use Kolb Mark III primarily for solo flying, light loads. It’s a choice if you prioritize simplicity and fuel economy. For two-person flying or if you require stronger climb and takeoff performance, you might want to consider upgrading to a more powerful engine like the Rotax 582 (65 HP) or even a four-stroke engine like the Rotax 912 (80 HP), which would offer better all-around performance.
@@zubilitic how is it for cross country, 2 hour trips maybe? I need something i can fly to the beach in but still use my short dirt strip. Ive got a firestar with 503 on it but I cant carry my electric unicycle with me
Hello, Originally this plane had Rotax 503 and it was bought disassembled in 90s, not by us so we do not know how long it took to build. It was already assembled and the price was about 5000€. Also, the Rotax 503 engine was replaced with Rotax 582 and it costed about 1500€. Hope this helps. Cheers!
Nice flight! Buying one next week.
Great, congrats! I am glad you like it ;)
Please tell us how you like the Kolb. Giving them a hard look... thanks.
