  • Today on the podcast we're chatting about Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed with effort, learning, and persistence. A fixed mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence are static traits that cannot be significantly developed.
Be sure to listen to the podcast where I share 10 Fixed Mindset Statements (such as "I can't draw") that you can easily transform to Growth Mindset Statements (such as "I don’t know how to draw yet, but I can improve my drawing skills with practice and dedication.")

I love everything about this! Firstly, I think the notion of growth mindset ties in nicely with the theme of a beginner's mindset in MAP - the idea that opening your mind to something new - a new process, a new technique, a reframe of an old, tired 'tape' you've played over and over and over. Secondly, I love the correlation of growth mindset with a problem solving attitude rather than a defeatist attitude. I have an accuquilt cutting machine that uses pressure to roll fabric over a die cut to cut fabrics. Well, I'm going to use this to see if I can get some collagraph prints, as I don't have a press, nor the room for one. I'll let you know how it works. If we stopped after the first "failure", no one would have learned to read, write, speak. Humanity would never have progressed. It's those pressures and tensions between our needs and 'failures' that furthers mankind.
