    What if one is bad at maths? Does it make sense to go in bioinformatics? Most people get in bio careers as they dislike maths.

    • @biotecnika
      @biotecnika  3 месяца назад +2

      You can't avoid maths in any type of biological sciences research, data is always in mathematical format

    • @akashgjoshi
      @akashgjoshi 3 месяца назад +1

      @@biotecnika That is true. But maths is at the heart of bioinformatics. If you are recommending people blindly to go into bioinformatics(not an accusation), without looking at their mathematical acumen, I believe you are setting them up for failure.

    • @biotecnika
      @biotecnika  3 месяца назад +1

      @@akashgjoshi@akashgjoshi While we can answer your question in many ways, let's start by asking: Do you mean those who don't have mathematical acumen cannot learn Bioinformatics? I vehemently deny that. Math, as well as Bioinformatics, is a skill that can be acquired at any point in time. You need an analytical and logical brain-that's it. And even if the candidate is weak in maths, asking him not to learn anything new will set him up for failure. In a world where Biological research is increasingly moving towards Computers, asking someone to learn Bioinformatics is just asking them to come out of their comfort zone.
      Asking them to stay in their comfort zone sets them up for failure and not asking them to learn or acquire a new skill. Ask a child who has passed a degree and is struggling to get a job, and he will tell you that he will do anything to get a Job in the Industry, whether it is bioinformatics or Mathematics; he/she will do it because he deserves to be employed and by recommending them to learn a new skill we want them to be hired fast. I hope that answers your question.
      Just last week, I helped a candidate get placed as a Scientist in PGIMER because she had learned Bioinformatics & AI-ML from us, and she was weak in maths when she got started with us. So, we can't limit a child due to their existing set of skill sets. There is always a possibility for him to learn and acquire new skill sets. Our intent is to help those who need it.

      @@biotecnika In a professional setting you are working with people who are best of the best of their trade. What you are saying is asking a fish to climb a tree. Yes, maybe it is possible, but there would be 100000s of monkey who would learn the trait very swiftly. While the fish would languish in her career and get frustrated.
      It is the same as a 5 feet 4 inch guy trying to get into professional basketball. There maybe exceptions, yes, but 99% of such people will only meet failure.
      Your example of a PGIMER scientist is a perfect example of surviour bias.
