LayOut tools are more powerful than they seem.
    Thanks Eric!

Oh I wish I had seen this earlier in my Sketchup journey!
Another topic I need is ‘reload’, I use the Nick Sonder protocol, one master file and about a dozen trade files. Sometimes when I reload a trade file the reload comes in at a different location from origin, wish I knew how to prevent that from happening.
Secondly, very Important to make changes in master and reload trade files. In the heat of construction, out in field I need to work with the trades giving me revisions live while I am developing on my laptop with trades watching and commenting. So I violatethe prime directive and make the changes in ‘trade’ file relink to viewport in Layout so they can determine if this will work. (Too much time to reload from master file these trades are in a hurry)
So back at office I have the task of creating the change back to the master file, gets very messy if the changes include new tags which always happens.
    Life in the real world.

Hi Eric, great stuff, as usual. Question: if there are no embedded references those files do not go with the LayOut file if I send it to someone?

Hi. You can embed into the document by checking 'unlink' in the Ref Manager. By default, references are linked to their external locations.

How to insert PDF files in Layout?

    • @ericsargeant3254

You can just drag and drop onto the page or you can go File/Insert. Note if you have a multi-page PDF, it only inserts the first page so you may need to separate out just the page you want to link in.

PDF files can only be inserted on a Mac, PC users have to convert the PDF to a .jpg or a .png image first. I use the FastStone Capture app ($20 lifetime license) and crank the resolution for the captures up to 600dpi in settings. Works well, but we shouldn't have to do this for the annual license we pay.
