    I never understood the Twin Towers ban. Especially when they digitally removed them from the King Kong remake. They were here, they existed. I don't think it's disrespectful.

    • @marvelousrex2866
      @marvelousrex2866 6 лет назад +42

      I agree, but I think from their perspective, there's no right answer. I personally think it's weird to almost pretend like it never happened by just omitting any reference the towers existed. Especially with things that were shot years before. I'm actually kind of surprised they didn't remove all the towers cutaways from the old episodes of Friends as well. But I also didn't live through it in NYC. If I lost someone in the towers, I probably wouldn't want to be reminded of it while just watching a rerun of a tv show that supposed to be funny either. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Though the strangest "ban" I remember was for the video for "Distrurbed - Prayer" because parts of it vaguely looked like the dust cloud from when the towers came down.

    • @rhyll-annffiain6491
      @rhyll-annffiain6491 5 лет назад +14

      I think it's just one of those things, where it was better to err on the side of caution. "If in doubt, don't." All that.
      And then of course all the people who will get dolla signs in their eyes, try to sue over trauma (cuz turning the TV off is just too damned difficult) or are offended...everything comes down to that.

      I don't think every scene with the twin towers was removed from the episode. There was one part where two guys in the towers were arguing, then one yelled to Homer, "Sorry. They put all the jerks in Tower 1". It's pretty understandable why that was removed.

  • @adamgriffith-smith9106
    @adamgriffith-smith9106 5 лет назад +290

    Honestly the City of New York vs homer getting banned simply because the towers were in it is pretty ridiculous

    • @MyRegardsToTheDodo
      @MyRegardsToTheDodo 5 лет назад +12

      Well, it wasn't banned permanently. And it wasn't the only thing banned from public, the first trailer for the Spider Man movie for example was banned aswell, because Peter spins a web between the two towers to catch a falling helicopter. Yes, ok, that one was probably justified.

    • @JaredLS10
      @JaredLS10 5 лет назад +7

      The original Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire had to have edits done to it because of 9/11. In the original trailer Spider-Man webs a helicopter in between both towers. The people to of the country were shook. I was in highschool during 9/11 and I know that i didnt want to be reminded of it for awhile.

      How about the brochure advertising the cost of a bus ticket to New York @5:05? $9, and the towers looking like 1's...looking like 911. Eerie foreshadowing. That episode was season 9, episode 1 and first aired September 27th, 1997.

      Of course they are airing again.
      I mean, it was 18 years ago already...

      FRIENDS is on TV again and all the cutaway scenes that include the twin towers are still there.

    You want to know the irony of the Pokemon seizure episode? Since then, Porygon has not been featured in any episode in the show. And yet, Pikachu was the one who caused the incident to begin with.
    Almost like they used Porygon as a scapegoat since they obviously can't remove Pikachu.

      Porygon made its English dub debut in a brief appearance during a graphic display in A Chansey Operation, as well as Clefairy Tales and Lights, Camera, Quack-tion.
      A Porygon made a cameo during the "World of Pokémon" opening narration of both Celebi: The Voice of the Forest and Pokémon Heroes: Latios & Latias, where it was shown floating behind a wire fence in a city.
      A Porygon appeared in a shot in a "World of Pokémon" opening at the beginning of the clip show OVA The Journey to be a Pokémon Master Begins!!, where it was floating above a fence in a very similar location.

      @Alistair the radio demon Now, just a moment, buddy! I never said I was judging George Carlin because he was a liberal! I have nothing against liberals. In fact, I regard myself as somewhat liberal-minded, especially when it comes to racial issues. It's just that your previous message said that Carlin wasn't a liberal, and I assumed he was. After all, he seemed to be very liberal-minded to me, particularly on the issue of Freedom of Speech, because a lot of people (especially those with more conservative and/or religious views) wanted to ban his comedy routines, which they considered obscene, profane, and immoral (his skits included curse words and references to drugs and sex).
      Anyway, when you wrote that Carlin wasn't a liberal, I just had to respond by asking you "if he wasn't a liberal, what was he then?" It was totally out of simple curiosity, not out of hostility towards Liberalism.
      And was it really necessary to tell me to "f*** off"? I mean, I was only asking you a question, not insulting your mother. Would it hurt you to be polite once in a while? Is that too much to ask for?

    One episode that isn't on here, but has been banned is an episode of the 1994-95 series "Gargoyles". In the episode "Deadly Force" the character Elisa Maza is accidentally shot by the gargoyle Broadway, after she leaves her police sidearm out in its holster. The episode got grief from parents groups for the realistic showing of blood, and the effects of a person being shot, even though the story was partially focused on Elisa's friend & Broadway's leader, Goliath, seeking revenge against a ganster named Tony Dracon (whom he believed was the true shooter, since Dracon was dealing in illegal weapons). After its initial airing, the episode was pulled from its regular rotation when Disney began airing the seasons on Disney XD as reruns. The episode is still part of the Gargoyles DVD collections, and can still be seen in its unedited form there.

      There's also the fact that it's arguably the best written educational TV episode on gun safety ever made, but that wasn't good enough for Disney.
      By the way, the series ran until 1996 (or 1997 if you count the exiled from continuity 3rd season).

      No one says the episode’s controversial. They say the airing of the episode when bearing in mind the plot of the episode + the modern day context is what’s controversial. Much of the episode takes place with homer spending time in & between the twin towers. For practically every viewer seeing that episode nowadays, when they see those scenes they’ll always consciously be reminded that those buildings are no longer there and have a short moment of awkward discomfort as they’re reminded ‘oh yeah that’s the twin towers. This was made before 9/11. Now im reminded of the tragedy’.
      Unless you’re a New Yorker or someone with connections to 9/11, then it’s mostly nothing serious other than that brief acknowledgment. But it’s still a shadow that’s cast over the episode and for some people will just put a downer on their viewing experience of the episode. So it’s not so much because the episode’s offensive, but just rather that many people will let the 9/11 context ruin their experience of the episode & so it makes more sense for the networks to just air different Simpsons episodes to remove the risk of viewers enjoying it less or being more likely to turn over or as usually is the case one or two people complaining. The banning makes more sense especially in the US or in New York.
      Anyway, im a big Simpsons fan so I personally don’t have a problem with rewatching the episode. But I do understand why some may find it bittersweet and awkward to sit through & why overall it makes more sense from a network’s perspective to not air the episode.
      It’s not like it’s really ‘banned’ anyway, that’s just dramatic exaggeration. The episode’s shown here in the UK + is available online, on DVD, etc. Its just not an episode they actively push as much which is fair.

    Banning ANY BMW episodes just proves how overly politically correct and anal this country became and remains to this day. Prom-ises Prom-ises did not encourage teen sex, but instead highlighted the issue and positively explained the consequences of such actions without patronizing the audience!!

    • @KaizerBeatz-vf9wf
      @KaizerBeatz-vf9wf 6 лет назад

      But why explain the consequences of teen sex on Disney Channel????
      It’s got nothing to do with being politically correct, if anything showing that episode and unnecessarily pushing political agendas through kids shows is the more PC thing. I’m not suggesting everything should be apolitical either. I just don’t see why the people who watch Disney Channel (mostly around ages 7 to 15) should be educated about sex. Many of them wouldn’t know what sex is or how it’s carried out and a lot of parents don’t want their children exposed to that. Kids shows can use their platform to spread positive messages, but telling children messages about sex that will go over most viewers’ heads is just pointless & would cause more controversy than doing good.
      I can’t imagine any kid watching BMW, internalising the message & later on not being pressurised into sex due to the episode’s impact on their learning of life lessons.
      I can imagine a lot of parents not wanting their children to be introduced to the sex-centred adult world before it’s necessary.
      But that’s just my view

    There was an episode of an animated series called Gargoyles that was pulled from airing in the USA (but I saw it in Australia). The episode sees Broadway, 1 of the gargoyles who’s comparable to a teenager, playing with the gun of the female detective who was the primary human character. Broadway accidentally shoots detective Maza & her life hangs by a thread while the rest of the gargoyle clan & the other detectives in her unit try to figure out who shot her. Eventually Broadway comes clean & Elisa wakes from her coma to tell him it was an accident & half her own fault for not securing her weapon properly... it was set to air the day after a kid shot himself with his police officer father’s gun

      The term ‘banned’ is a bit misleading imo & though it’s obvious dramatic exaggeration on Watchmojo’s behalf, it’s more accurate to just say the episode’s aren’t aired. To say they’re banned suggests the creator’s actively intend to prevent everyone from viewing it and intend to destroy all copies out here. But it’s the episode, if it’s a good episode that’s fine. All it means is some networks don’t promote the episode as much. But hardly any of the episodes on this list are truly banned

  • @billt8504
    @billt8504 5 лет назад +4

    Sesame Street has been one of the longest-running kids’ programs on television today. Dating back to 1969, the show provided educational content, entertainment, and family-friendly material to children around the world. However, one of its episodes was deemed far too scary for children to watch.
    In season 7, actress Margaret Hamilton was invited to the show to reprised her infamous role as the Wicked Witch of the West from the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. Though her appearance came 37 years after the movie was released, the sight of the Witch was still too much for children to bear. After its airing on February 10, 1976, producers were flooded with complaint letters from parents that claimed the episode traumatized their children.
    After additional screenings for more children, producers decided to remove “Episode 0847” and never to include it in syndication.

    The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson is still one of the best episodes The Simpsons ever produced.

    8:20 Also "Home" was never played on normal FOX in the first place. It was banned, and the first time it aired was on FX.
    So everything she said it wrong.

      jackal242 Except you're the one who is wrong!
      "Home" debuted in 'The X-Files' original season 5 run on FOX.
      It was aired with a viewer discretion warning then never shown again until after its release on DVD when it was aired again on FOX and FX...

    8:14
    Owing to the mature content
    I think most of the times when watching The X-Files it says "viewer discretion is advised" so that's kinda stupid for it to be banned

    Thanks for the epilepsy warning, but:
    A. Only 3% of us are photosensitive and are triggered by strobes
    B. Those who are, and know they do, would know better than to be watching videos.
