  • In comparison to bending about one axis of a reinforced concrete column, biaxial bending presents an entirely different and more complex situation. The neutral axis is at an angle with respect to both axes, and lengthy calculations are needed to determine the location of the neutral axis and strains. The biaxial bending strength of an axially loaded column can be represented by a three-dimensional interaction curve. This surface is formed by a series of uniaxial interaction diagrams that are drawn radially from the vertical axis.

Theta angle wich you refer on the interaction surface slide, appears to be the same to the theta angle wich you indicated in the previous slide (related to the cross section subjected to the eccentrical load). I think that's misleading when using the same name for two different angles. Theta angle indicated on the interaction surface refers to the ratio between My and Mx, while the theta angle indicated in the cross section slide is the angle between the resultant eccentricity and the neutral axis. These two directions are perpendicular only in very special cases.

11:11 it should be zero theta about X axis and 90 degree about y axis.
