What killed it? Fake Emo. Get Up Kids and Saves The Day eclipsed the slow hardcore influenced stuff, and then bands like Taking Back Sunday (a dorky Braid ripoff) became the new standard. Jimmy Eat World went full-on power-pop and none of the new mall-emo fans listened to anything older than Through Being Cool. By 2005, Sunny Day’s sound was too raw and indie for Hawthorn Heights fans.

Your point of view on bands and scenes evolution is always on point , really interesting and I think you should do a Blink 182 video, I'd be curious to hear your opinion on the band and what happened with them.
everyone that i knew who was into easycore slowly began to love sad boy pop punk and now that lil era is over, they all just listen to soundcloud rappers i think it died mainly because there's only so much you can do in that genre before it gets stale. you can only paste in an open note breakdown so many times before people get sick of it and basically know whats coming next. it all got too played out and more emotional pop punk began to take the reigns as you said. i also find that so weird because of the really stark contrast between the songs about partying, having fun with friends, and what not to songs about just being sad and lonely with bands like citizen, real friends, the wonder years, basement, and other bands who embodied that melancholy vibe.
What I think happened is easy core came at a very transitional period. "Scene" kids were growing up and out of their teenage phases in 2008-2012. That growth had a transitional stage between easycore to full blown "emo neo-grunge" and a revival of pop punk. I say "neo- emo grunge" because a lot of the alternative bands that come out now(basement, daylight, teenage wrist, etc.) are heavily influenced by 90s grunge acts. Now you might be saying "what does this have to do with scene kids that where becoming adults in 2008-2012??" Well, I'll tell you. The kids that were now 17-21 in 2008-2012, grew up in the 90s, and guess what a lot of them heard in their childhoods by their parents? Lots of grunge and pop punk. That influenced them once they grew out of their metal core/deathcore days of musical taste as a teen. In turn lots of those now adults started to form bands, and since most of their peers and themselves had grown out of deathcore/metalcore, they started to turn back to earlier music from their childhoods for inspiration. That's where the influence of pop punk came back, yes, lots of teens listen to pop punk now, but they weren't around for the first full fledged pop punk wave we had in the 90s and early 2000s. And who do you think are in all these pop punk/ "emo neo Grunge" bands these days? You guessed it, adults who were kids when the actual first wave of Grunge and pop punk were in full effect. It's gone full circle id saying
Summer 2008 the only 2 albums I listened to was Rise or Die Trying & Mutany. Then Homesick came out and the game was never the same! I’m pretty nostalgic for those days too!
Music used to have weird rules all predicated on genre. Who cares about genre, good music is good music. With that being said I get why genres exist I just don't get why people are elitist about something so personal and intimate as music. Tis just baffling. Keep up the good work man!
Awesome informative video about a relatively forgotten genre! You nailed it on the head with the Nirvana / Hair Metal comparison. As you mentioned I feel as times and bands got more serious easycore/neon felt weird and out of place. It's easy for newer pop-punk fans to make fun of the cheesiness of it now but as you covered the genre was huge fun for a time that people seem to forget and not know. Above all great job!
I appreciate you man, these videos are so entertaining and informative, editing is amazing, truly underrated channel. & I agree with Ali, a post-hardcore video would be sick!
I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time on a single RUclips channel, love your videos, very good analysis and so many answers for things I’ve always wondered!
Thanks for this comprehensive video. I was previously unaware of this genre until hearing someone describe a modern pop-punk band Belmont as Easycore. Your video is basically the only one out there breaking down the history.
I remember the 2006ish four year strong, a day to remember and set your goals albums being the major highlights of the easy core style. I would say kid dynamite, the movie life, saves the day, and new found glory were the real starters of easycore. Handguns ep, such gold ep, story so far first album, transit, secret live of the free masons, karate high school, I am the avalanche, a loss for words, no trigger, are all cool bands to check out too.
FYS Rise or Die Trying is such a fun album! Thanks Finn, watching your videos has been reminding me of some of the music I love but have slipped my mind ever since my computer/iTunes library died.
Some bands still play this type of music, like Abandoned by Bears, For the Win, Settle Your Scores, Carousel Kings, Across the Atlantic, Wired for Havoc, Sink the Ship, etc..... You just gotta search harder these days, I guess.
Only a few bands do it Well is the problem imo. Out of all of those bands you just list. Only Abandoned By Bears and Carousel Kings are remotely worth a shit. I just saw both of them live last year in front of literally 2 other people. Yeah. I paid 20 bucks and stood there by myself pretty much to watch 2 outstanding bands.
@@IPPoop LOL, same here. I went to Abandoned by Bears in 2015 before they 'got big' (assuming they're not even big now) and there were only a handful of people. The 'concert' was held at a local cafe and I wasn't even charged to see them play. I had met all band members that time, which was pretty rad.
Wired for Havoc is cool. They were a local band in my area and I had no clue they were bigger than that. They just put out an album but sadly they disbanded a handful of months ago.
Great video tho , I would love to see you do a video on just the rise of bands like The Story So Far and neck deep and trash boat , trash boat especially, a seriously under rated band , their new album Crown Shyness is a masterpiece
and now here I am making a new Easycore playlist at midnight instead of going to bed... thanks for the nostalgia AND the look into some new bands I haven't checked out yet!
Hadn't thought about that band in a long time. I used to work with Alex in a call center back in 2008. I never knew him that well but we had a mutual friend so we got talking. I'd talk music with him on the work messenger for hours (but I only actually remember talking to him about the breakdown in Empty Shell by Into the Moat, haha). Actually can't believe it's been that long.
Easycore has such an influence on me growing up. Not many people I knew where into it but I swear I would get me so pumped before my soccer games or with my windows down on the way home from school. Me vs. Hero, The Wonder Years, and Four Year Strong. I even had I Call Fives, With The Punches, and All or Nothing deserve a shout. I remember not having any money so I would just download them illegally. It was such a gamble to get a legit quality version. Not as sexy as collecting records, but I was always proud after spending hours renaming the files and putting the album cover on. I hope I’m able to share my favorites with my kids one day.
I loved NFG’s Catalyst record and still listen to it regularly. I remember being in middle school, buying the enhanced CD and watching the embedded videos of them fucking around on tour over and over again. I spent countless hours listening to that album while playing the Tony Hawk’s pro skater games and it still holds up today.
This is a music genre I missed in it's time frame. I grew up with my dad playing late 60's/70's hard rock/heavy metal, and then my older brother got into punk/hardcore and I listened to that. By the time I got to Post-grunge and Emo I was burnt out a bit, so I switched to blues, folk and some indie bands around this time. I watch your videos, even about bands I don't care for or don't know, just because I love music. I looked some these bands up and I like them, so thanks again for giving me a new genre of music to enjoy.
I definitely grabbed pop punk by the horns. It was everything my friends and I grew up on. Then, just like you explained we progressively got more into hardcore and sad emo punk stuff like brand new and have heart. I often think about this time period and how it all just seemed to fizzle out. It"s cool to see someone talk about this. I'd love to know your thoughts on bands in general kinda becoming irrelevant now. Im not stating that but it seems like most music the youth is really listening to now is solo artists and I wonder if bands will make a comeback. Ned from title fight has his own side project now I'm sure you're aware of. I've heard Jon from Balance and Composure tried to start something as well. tbh I'm pretty removed from the scene at this point and you might have already made videos on these topics since I'm commenting before looking through your archives. Anyway good video!
So cool hearing this recap having grown up along with this era; Freshman year of high school being 2009. I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly I remember seeing these trends and various different factors play out in real time through the scene. Really enjoyed this trip down memory lane keep up the great content.
@@ThePunkRockMBA a video about the rise and fall of drive thru records maybe? They started that whole mall punk/emo thing and put bands like Home Grown, The Starting Line, Finch, New Found Glory, Allister, and Something Corporate on the map, then dissipated before it got REALLY big - with neon pop bands like All Time Low & Mayday Parade taking up the mantle.
Yes a what killed drive-through records one would be awesome. I still have my shirts they would send when you ordered records. "More rock than a crackhouse"
Not to be an ass or anything. But NFG has shirts from 2000-2001 that say NFG EASYCORE on the front. So way before 2008 as said in the video. And yes NFG are The Godfather’s!!!!!! Great video.
the fact you mentioned City Lights makes me extremely happy. The fact that they never gathered traction should've been the first sign that our society was in deep trouble. I might be biased as a Columbus kid obsessed with easycore, but confessions of an escape artist was a God tier song
Oh shit! That’s some street cred diving deep with Daggermouth! The members have a lot of connections with tons of other great bands. Cool bit of history!
tbh, i didnt even know ADTR was in that category of genres all i thought and think of now of them is, metalcore and pop-punk aspects love their music, easycore wasnt a word that comes to mind when i hear them
10:07 Those are my thoughts exactly. I used to play in a band that would have been described as "Easycore," and we also played with a few small bands who had that same sound. Over the past four years, we disbanded, and tried to start other projects that just folded. But the new band that we have now falls into the "soft grunge" sound. We felt like being another easycore band just didn't appropriate who we were individually and we wanted more of a "serious sound" like you mentioned in the video, which was something we felt our local scene was lacking.
Chunk is garbage. Never understood how anyone could legitimately listen to them. That band single handedly split a group of my friends up. The 2 guys that loved that band and the 4 of us who thought it was incredibly lame. Haha we just could not get along with each other because both sides just could not comprehend their love or hate for that band.
Interesting point on how Easycore fit in nicely with top hits at the time as a "heavier cousin" and how we have moved to a more serious front in the music world. I have no idea what will happen if more mainstream music cycles back to a happier style, but if it means an Easycore revival, count me in! Keep it up man.
Awesome video as always. Love this mix of analytics and music I’m into. But there’s one little thing - CNCC LP is called Something For Nothing, Sink Or Swim is a song from it:)
@@dodddoesit5238 haha They always have the panda costume on tour! I've only seen them twice but the first time I saw them I got invited on stage and sang the chorus to "In friends we trust" with bert. But at the time I didn't know who they were sadly lol After the show I purchased all 3 of their CD's and now they are one of my favorite bands!
"This isn't my attempt at listing every easycore band there ever was" That's cause that's my job! Awesome video Sarge. One about the rise and fall of crabcore/risecore would be sweet too.
Definitely not the angle i would take on it and not interested in getting a bunch of haters to show up in the comments. I have a ton of respect for the people who made that genre what it is (one of them is a close friend and business partner)
Bruh, you just named off every band I know and love still. Went to see New Found Glory in March. Pure gold. According to their guitarist Chad there are 2 more albums set to be released soon. :) also props for putting city lights, chunk, no captain chunk on your list. No one I know, knows who they are. :) easycore will never die for me!
I remember being 14 and getting into this genre after watching CNCCs “In Friends We Trust” video. This was post golden era, so I ended up falling down a rabbit hole of easycore bands. What I think really drew me to it was like you said, the quirky and ridiculously long title names, the colorful and chaotic album covers and the breakdowns. None my friends were into it, so I kinda lost interest after a year but some of my favorite songs were “The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday” by Act As One, “Five More Things To Put Your Leg Up On” by A Run For Your Money and “Go Slinky Go!” by UTKF
I'm glad to see me vs hero get some love in the comments! I remember in 2009 "the downfall of us all" by adtr came on tv and it was an absolute mindfuck for me, I didn't know what to make of it. But I started to love the sound after a few more listens. It's great to listen to you break it all down because this whole era is a big blur in my mind. Scholars usually agree that the fall out boys were never easycore but infinity on high from 2007 starts with a breakdown!
LiveActionTad I can see that, Belmont definitely has emo tendencies in their blend of pop punk and even the breakdowns in their songs I would consider “psuedo breakdowns.” Although they do have an aggressiveness to their sound as a whole that I love. Also their drummer shreds, Brian Lada is a true prodigy.
Paramore was really pushing the neon vibe back in 2017-18, not related to the sound of easycore but a vital visual characteristic. Man, I hope there's gonna be another happy hardcore revival in the 20's.
If anyone still even has the slightest bit of interest in this genre, you *NEED* to check out Belmont's debut album which came this year in august. While not full-blown easycore, they play a brand of progressive pop-punk with elements of fusion, prog, hip-hop and metal/hardcore with a few breakdowns here and there. Their musicianship is god tier!
Good vid fin, I think another contributory factor is that same with any other "core" scene pigeonholing yourself to one specific subgenre is only sustainable for so long before you get bored of it especially when as with other scenes the bigger a scene gets the more elitist and douchey it becomes
Would definitely like to see a what killed Post Hardcore? Or if it’s even dead for that matter! Lol love some Word Alive still and bands of that nature.
I love this music..and nfg is hitting the road again right now! Go see them! Starting line is opening for them, woot woot! Drive thru records por vida!!
I know NFG were the pioneers of this but I feel like Sum 41 deserve some credit, whether the intended it or not. They had some huge metal/hardcore inspired riffs on DTLI and Chuck
funny enough, me and one of my friends in highschool jokingly called NFG's self-titled album "SoftXCore" when it released, noting the breakdowns on one of the poppiest punk albums ever. We were both fans of hardcore as well. we weren't quite calling it Easycore but we were close! we were, of course, making a pornography joke at the same time. dad jokes in highschool; i was doomed.
Dude, you should so do a video on the original Post Hardcore / Emo bands like Gameface, Texas Is The Reason, Small Brown Bike, Sense Field and how the term "emo" is now used to describe anything from My Chemical Romance to Bring Me The Horizon and more. Labels like Revelation and Jade Tree more being the labels to go to for such bands.
You think maybe the end of summer traveling fests like Warped Tour is a factor in the decline of easycore? I remember from like 2009-2012 every stage from the big bois to the side stages were packed with easycore bands. And yeah maybe the culture is so different now, less about pizza and pool parties to more kickbacks and xans. RIP Ezcore xoxo miss u (still spin FYS and ADTR tho)
The reason I liked (and still like) a lot of the 'first wave' bands so to speak is because it sounded new and fresh at the time. Like, I remember people comparing Set Your Goals to Lifetime during the Reset/Mutiny era, but even that wasn't particularly accurate (though I guess you can hear the influence). There just isn't a whole lot you can do with the sound though, as someone else pointed out. also I have to admit, it was kind of funny seeing hardcore kids back then justify liking SYG by saying "they are not pop punk ok they are POSITIVE/MELODIC HARDCORE!!!!" lolol One thing that I think helped make that attempted revival dead on arrival a couple years ago though was a fanbase that came off as toxic. Obviously not EVERYONE, but enough that the wider punk/alt community wanted nothing to do with it.
Your videos are seriously entertaining. You've basically touched on almost all the bands/genres I used to and still listen to. Pushing 40yrs old I still love NFG, well maybe not their newer stuff 😂. Keep up the awesome work.
Best newest ezcore is probably Sportsball by Wimbledon Alley. Especially the single "Throwback". Tbh I think Ezcore has potential to return. But I doubt it'll come back as "silly" as it was. It'll be the sound really and it'll have to be taken more seriously. I also think some of the musical themes of it will have to change to reflect the modern era as well. I think if it comes around backwards from the way it did before. Instead of pop punk bands inspired by heavy music it'd be heavy bands inspired by pop punk. Which is more reflective of what's happening more and more with it now. (Maybe we just need another ADTR?)
Your thumbnail cracked me up as it appears to say: “what killed easy core”?.....”new found glory”, lol. Another rad episode filled with both information and enough disclaimers to hopefully keep the keyboard ninjas from a full frontal assault. Well done bro.
Oh my god finally! A guy who knows his pop punk! And actually remembers how everything unfolded haha yeah you hit it right on the nail. I will say my favorite era of pop punk was the early 2000s skate punk style of pop punk with bands like Bodyjar, Home Grown, The Ataris, Midtown etc. I loved the easy core era because at the time pop punk was kind of dead, there were only emo pop bands like mayday parade and powerspace and every avenue and cute is what we aim for ugh, so when pop punk made a comeback the way it did it was like "hell yeah!! Pop punk is back!!" Honestly I think some soft grunge/shoegaze bands are good but I just can't get super into them like I I wish i could. I love man overboard, better off and moose blood and title fight's early stuff was amazing. But you're right, we grew up and eventually your taste changes. My favorite band has always been blink 182 but for the past year and a half my favorite artist has been nothing, nowhere. I didn't see that coming lol anyway it was cool to see all this unravel. I'm glad I got to be part of it.
Me to! I've never considered myself depressed but lately I have been going through some shit since I accidentally injured myself while drunk. His music has been therapy to some extent lol I'll be seeing him in December
Portlandic Prophet yeah same here, never really was a depressed person until the last few years. I have serious trust issues now and I'm just really apprehensive. Working on it everyday but yeah it feels good to know I'm not alone. Hang in there man!
3:15 God, yes, Four Year Strong's Rise or Die Trying to this day remains one of my just all time favorite albums (across all genres), and "Beatdown in the Key of Happy" as a title pretty much defines the genre
I would like to ask you an advice, I'm 20 years, i've been playing the drums for 10 years now, I play in a Metal-Core band but i'm not able to make music my profession, i'm doing a shitty job that i hate, i tried to give drums lessons but unfortunately there aren't many people interested in learning a new instrument, i don't know what should i do, what can help me to realise my dream? Lots of grunge and pop punk. wasn't Sky Eats Airplane the biggest band with that tag?
Kris Owens as the world fades maybe?
quiet victories - you're 100% right
Dungeon Elite was the best band...but unfortunately they were Italian...
Music used to have weird rules all predicated on genre. Who cares about genre, good music is good music. With that being said I get why genres exist I just don't get why people are elitist about something so personal and intimate as music. Tis just baffling. Keep up the good work man!
Exactly. Thanks man!
Without specific genres though there would be no blending them would there.
Do post hardcore scene dude. Saosin, A Skylit Drive, Pierce The Veil, those few of band's I know was getting huge by the scene.
There's a huge talent pool there. That would be a great topic.
Post-hardcore was a hell of a lot of bands. That would take him forever.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
Pierce the Veil is STILL huge. But, I admit, they HAVE gotten a little more poppy with their last album. Nevertheless, it was still a great album.
"how saosin turned every band after saosin into saosin"
Awesome informative video about a relatively forgotten genre! You nailed it on the head with the Nirvana / Hair Metal comparison. As you mentioned I feel as times and bands got more serious easycore/neon felt weird and out of place. It's easy for newer pop-punk fans to make fun of the cheesiness of it now but as you covered the genre was huge fun for a time that people seem to forget and not know. Above all great job!
I love these vids because Im learning stuff about bands that i was so into back in the day, it’s so sick haha
Thanks man, appreciate the support!
We try to keep easycore alive. We call it more heavy pop punk tho now.
Great video !
My posi boys ^_^
For sure, all part of the beginninngs- but NFG coined the term easycore so you gotta give it to them I think!
For sure! Many of these bands are pretty good.
Abandoned by bears is so sick. Definitely the best new age easycore band.
Wired for Havoc is cool. They were a local band in my area and I had no clue they were bigger than that. They just put out an album but sadly they disbanded a handful of months ago.
Very well-researched and insightful. Love your videos!
I'm a major fan of the Wonder Years. I like what they did originally, but I love the direction they're taking their sound now
So cool that you included Me vs Hero, really lovely dudes, remember going to watch them support deaf havana with there for tomorrow.
Finally, someone's asking the real questions.
Hard hitting journalism right here!!
Thanks for watching! Interesting point re: solo artists... I’ll have to think about that one!
So cool hearing this recap having grown up along with this era; Freshman year of high school being 2009. I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly I remember seeing these trends and various different factors play out in real time through the scene. Really enjoyed this trip down memory lane keep up the great content.
I'd love to see a video about Armor For Sleep or The Starting line
Love the starting line!
Starting line ruled
@@ThePunkRockMBA a video about the rise and fall of drive thru records maybe? They started that whole mall punk/emo thing and put bands like Home Grown, The Starting Line, Finch, New Found Glory, Allister, and Something Corporate on the map, then dissipated before it got REALLY big - with neon pop bands like All Time Low & Mayday Parade taking up the mantle.
Yes a what killed drive-through records one would be awesome. I still have my shirts they would send when you ordered records. "More rock than a crackhouse"
This video single handedly revitalized my love for pop punk
Dude! You are awesome! I'm always impressed and learn a lot from all of your videos!! Keep pushing!! You deserve more subscribers!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for mentioning Citizen. I am really enjoying this mix of 90's grunge and hardcore so far.
Ayyyy catch your boys on the screen caps in the “easycore is all but dead” section lmao
Lol! You guys are great.
Keeping ez alive! Love your new album boys!
I think it's time for another Guardians Of Easycore tour 🍕
Ah! One of the DEFENDER "SYS" :3
Love you guys 😂
Thanks, you've got me jamming to set your goals again after nearly forgetting about them. Cheers!
Not to be an ass or anything. But NFG has shirts from 2000-2001 that say NFG EASYCORE on the front. So way before 2008 as said in the video. And yes NFG are The Godfather’s!!!!!! Great video.
Several people have mentioned this and you’re right - I forgot about those shirts!
the fact you mentioned City Lights makes me extremely happy.
Kinda exactly what it is actually
@@giantxwarrior3902 is this real? What year is it that we are un ironically saying these words?
I was actually listening to my greatest hits album I made. Same set up as the one I had in high school. I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of it.
k_stud ain’t no party like a daggermouth party
I dig these videos, they are full of fun information and quick bites!
tbh, i didnt even know ADTR was in that category of genres
all i thought and think of now
of them is, metalcore and pop-punk aspects
love their music, easycore wasnt a word that comes to mind when i hear them
10:07 Those are my thoughts exactly.
I’d say Chunk, No Captain Chunk is second only to A Day To Remember.
Manual Clutch Chunk, No Captain Chunk! is wayyyyy better than A Day to Remember lol
@@allstopblue5717 ironically the first album is all about friendship man
@@allstopblue5717 I agree. FYS for lifeeeeeeee
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video as always. Love this mix of analytics and music I’m into. But there’s one little thing - CNCC LP is called Something For Nothing, Sink Or Swim is a song from it:)
Whoops, idk what i was thinking! Duh.
I love all this WHAT KILLED ... Videos !! They are very well done !!
I'm pretty sure Chunk! No Captain Chunk! Is still Easycore and still around and getting bigger and bigger :)
If you look at google trends they peaked in like 2013. 383k listeners on spotify which isnt bad though.
when i saw them in 2012 the singer wore a panda costume.
Have they put anything out since their third album? I didn't even know they were a band anymore
You’re really stuck in 2012 aren’t you lol those guys peaked a long time ago and their “peak” still wasn’t very much of a peak 😂
definitely lived through all these eras. loved this video, and couldn't agree more. Fight Fair, and City Lights
Thanks for watching!
"This isn't my attempt at listing every easycore band there ever was"
That's cause that's my job!
Awesome video Sarge. One about the rise and fall of crabcore/risecore would be sweet too.
Not sure if i can handle the painful comments i’d get lol. But i will probably do it anyway because i’m a glutton for punishment
@@ThePunkRockMBA looking forward to it !
@@ThePunkRockMBA PLEASE
Oh christ.... crabcore. Though it would probably get a ton of views because that's the subgenre we all love to hate.
Me vs hero was fantastic
BennyBird saw them on their last run at Slam Dunk this year. Fuck me were they good!!
Four year too!
Me vs hero dude what a band
So relatively unknown back then too. I used to jam out to them all the time in 2009-2010 and no one knew who they were.
These videos are really good! Keep doing them. Well researched, great presentation. A wealth of knowledge!
I totally bought an #EZcoreRevival2k15 shirt & still wear it. Will always Love the sub-genre! Bring back the neon, breakdowns & fun!
man do I miss 2015... and it was only 3 years ago
Dude you should try HAPPYSLAM that's what he`s trying to revive :)
I really hope it picks back up cus it’s the perfect fusion of pop punk and hardcore.
R X I love knocked loose and spite. Code orange is great but I was kinda bored with their I am king release.
[Citation needed]
Rise or Die Tryin was a great album
So many bands here that I didn't even know about. So glad I found this video!
Abandoned By Bears is probably the best EZ band right now
LiveActionTad Belmont dude
Joshua Whitley oh dude Belmont rips. One of my favorite records this year. It’s just hard to label them as full-on EZ ya know?
LiveActionTad I can see that, Belmont definitely has emo tendencies in their blend of pop punk and even the breakdowns in their songs I would consider “psuedo breakdowns.” Although they do have an aggressiveness to their sound as a whole that I love. Also their drummer shreds, Brian Lada is a true prodigy.
I feel like abandoned by bears and Belmont should tour together, that would be one hell of a show
Dude I have found so much good music through your channel.
CnCC Has best chord progression. If someone against it,
*Haters gonna hate*
They’re, in general, the best of the genre
So strong. I love these videos and love growing up with bands. I remember seeing NFG in 2001 at the 930 club.
Paramore was really pushing the neon vibe back in 2017-18, not related to the sound of easycore but a vital visual characteristic. Man, I hope there's gonna be another happy hardcore revival in the 20's.
Paramore were emo and at a push pop punk. They didnt have breakdowns which is the defining characteristic of easycore.
I love your list of easycore bands in the description, literally some of my favourite bands
They’re great!
One of the best albums to drop this year along with Headstorm from Abandoned By Bears.
Great band!
Thanks for these vids man. They mean a lot to me.
Good vid fin, I think another contributory factor is that same with any other "core" scene pigeonholing yourself to one specific subgenre is only sustainable for so long before you get bored of it especially when as with other scenes the bigger a scene gets the more elitist and douchey it becomes
You're a god for turning me on to ME VS HERO. Thank you for this!
Would definitely like to see a what killed Post Hardcore? Or if it’s even dead for that matter! Lol love some Word Alive still and bands of that nature.
Will def do this!
I love this music..and nfg is hitting the road again right now! Go see them! Starting line is opening for them, woot woot! Drive thru records por vida!!
TILL WE DROP from Budapest Hungary!!!!
Egy ilyen bandán dolgozom ezer éve. :(
Be kind rewind
Aaahh the good and happy old days. Btw happy to see the channel is growing fast now.
Thanks man!
THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU WERE MAKING A PORNOGRAHPY 😭😭😭
Dude, you should so do a video on the original Post Hardcore / Emo bands like Gameface, Texas Is The Reason, Small Brown Bike, Sense Field and how the term "emo" is now used to describe anything from My Chemical Romance to Bring Me The Horizon and more. Labels like Revelation and Jade Tree more being the labels to go to for such bands.
Big fan of Gameface! And Farside.
Don’t forget Thrice!
Small Brown Bike are great. Their music reminds me of the feeling of Title Fight’s first proper LP ‘Shed’. Nice gritty melodic hardcore.
Easycore is the perfect balance of playful and angry sounds, it is very well tailored for energetic live performances.
Watching in 2021 and realizing how much progress Finn's production quality has improved
There just isn't a whole lot you can do with the sound though, as someone else pointed out. also I have to admit, it was kind of funny seeing hardcore kids back then justify liking SYG by saying "they are not pop punk ok they are POSITIVE/MELODIC HARDCORE!!!!" lolol
One thing that I think helped make that attempted revival dead on arrival a couple years ago though was a fanbase that came off as toxic. Obviously not EVERYONE, but enough that the wider punk/alt community wanted nothing to do with it.
UGH MOM IT’S NOT POP PUNK ITS POSITIVE MELODIC HARDCORE NOW GET OUT OF MY ROOM AND CLOSE THE DOOR
[frustrated 2007 hardcore kid wipes tears away with Have Heart hoodie they got from the b9 store after saving up their allowance]
I really like the hair metal / nirvana grunge analogy.
Still waiting for the EZRevival2k15
Your videos are seriously entertaining. You've basically touched on almost all the bands/genres I used to and still listen to. Pushing 40yrs old I still love NFG, well maybe not their newer stuff 😂. Keep up the awesome work.
Thanks man!
Yes, Wimbledon Alley rocks .
Your thumbnail cracked me up as it appears to say: “what killed easy core”?.....”new found glory”, lol.
Another rad episode filled with both information and enough disclaimers to hopefully keep the keyboard ninjas from a full frontal assault. Well done bro.
I don’t think anything can stop them :/
Oh my god finally!
Bodyjar, thats a deep cut!! Thanks for watching man!
I fucking love Nothing, Nowhere. He is so modern and has influences of hip hop and pop punk. He is doing it right.
Portlandic Prophet dude no one describes my life better than him haha people need to stop sleeping on him!
I saw them with the wonder years (and comeback kid I'm pretty sure) around this era. still the best show I've ever been to
Love me some EZ but this is right on the money. Fun just isn’t “in” right now.
This is just the best channel ever, so glad i found you
Thanks for watching!
(Making a living out of music) Thanks for your time and wisdom!
The mid 2000's to the early 2010's were fuckin amazing for music...this era right now sucks so bad.
Depends on what music you like. 2018 alone has been great to me. Early 2010s were pretty "meh". 00s definitely were great.
Agreed unless your like a beat down hardcore guy lol
Just realized that looking back easy core was definitely a gateway for me to metalcore and metal in general, four years strong and a day to remember where and are awesome bands
