  • While working in his home office in the basement, lightning struck the home, causing his computer and modem to explode and also sparked a fire in the basement.
The homeowner was able to safely evacuate the home with his wife and cat. No injuries were reported and it took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.
This was the second fire in town at the same time. Mutual aid companies were the first to arrive at this fire. The other fire which was on Greenwood St., was also caused by a lightning strike.
Departments from Grafton, Upton, Northbridge and Sutton assisted Millbury at the fires.

Lightening strikes can be tricky because often you'll end up with fire or smoldering inside multiple walls and ceiling's.

It was a major day of thunderstorms! Springfield, Vermont got whammed, too, but our immediate area didn't get lightning strikes like that.
