The Namiki has the biggest wow factor imho, but the Sailor is the most versatile... I would be worried about bringing an Emperor to work, but not the KOP. You can write quick notes or long contemplative letters, and that pen will just give you such a pleasurable and distinctive writing experience. The emperor is awesome, but if I had to have just one pen, it would be the Sailor
Thanks for your comment!
Una sola pluma no es suficiente. Totally true
"One writing instrument is not enough." No truer words have ever been spoken. I will share this with my wife, so that I may continue to purchase these exquisite writing instruments. Namiki Emperor is on my grail list.
Do that 😂🙏🏼♥️
@@SamuelNaldi I tried the same thing. My wife said, "I want to speak to Mr. Naldi!"
I have been fortunate enough to own all 4. I love them all. Namiki 50 is my go to pen. It is both percise and playful at the same time. I use it mainly for journaling. When I am signing documents or paying bills I go with the Montblanc 149(surprise,surprise). The Pelican M-1000 is a medium but writes like a broad. I use it when I am emotional about sonething and want to put that down on the page
I like the sailior but only use it if I want a change of oace......the feedback definitely reminds me of writing with a pencil(not necessarily a bad thing)
Thanks so much for letting us know! ♥️
Did you get the #50 in vermillion or black? And what size nib? I already own the vermillion in M nib but I have been wanting to get the black one in FM nib
I feel like the M1000 is an undervalued pen. In my collection, it seems so basic, but I started using only my M1000 with medium nib for a few weeks when I had some ink I wanted to finish up, and it made me realize how it really would be a fantastic only pen.
It is quite recognized as one of the best FP‘s on the Market
Namiki! :-)
Thinking to get either Namiki or Nakaya
Namiki for sure 😎
This is the video I was waiting for !
Cooool
@@SamuelNaldi ahaha
Your videos are cool!
Although I appreciate the lower budget pens like e95s or pilot custom 92. I would not have discovered the wonder of high end pens if it was not for your channel!
Thank you very much for all the videos and please keep it up!
You are doing a lot for the industry!
Of the four I only have the M1000. I tried the Namiki Emperor, and it was exquisite but there where i was ready to bu it, I tried a Taccia, and that won. I think that the Taccia is the best pen I ever held in my hands and wrote.
Thanks for sharing this and adding value
I don’t have the others yet, but my Pelikan M1000, the same one that you showed, is an enchanting pen to write with. Mine is with a fine nib, but so deliciously bouncy, closer to a M nib, when it bounces. Smooth and juicy. Classy (like all the others too) and pure joy! ❤
Very bouncy. Thanks for your comment!
Thing is all the nibs can be tuned to your preference. But the comfort of the grip is something that people often do not consider. Finding a good grip section makes or breaks a pen imo.
But out of the box experience in the luxury end I’d choose Nakaya.
Still I think the Faber Castell grip offers some of the best writing experience period. Still that’s subjective

What a great video and demo. Agreed it’s so personal in terms of which is best. 🙏🏼🤜🏼 Manor.
Thank you do much my dear friend
You should make a video where you talk about different papers for fountain pens.
Absolutely great idea
I need a few more pens! I have the MontBlanc 149, love it! Don’t have Pelikan M1000 (I have M600), I’ve been wanting Sailor KOP, maybe next? Or it’ll be the Pelikan M1000.
Great video!
Whatever you decide to got out of these four you will not regret it! 🙏🏼
I love pens which can glide over the paper rather 'scratch' it. So Mb and pelikan win this round for me:)
That said I would Samuel to do a video on the types of fountain pen friendly paper and some of his favourite inks!
Thanks for suggesting
I will get 2 of them: Sailor and Namiki. I love precise fountain pens.
You‘re not going to regret it!
give me the Sailor anyday!: just perfection for those of us with small handwriting:)
Love Sailor too haha
The Namikl is in another class. Not much of a contest. The KOP nib is the best Sailor makes, also great. The Pelikan and Montblanc are both excellent. Missing from here is a discussion of tuning. It is my belief that everyone who owns a fountain pen needs to know how to do a little tuning. There are so many complaints about the writing experience on all the forums, with every pen company. 95% of the issues can be solved with a less-than-5-minute tune. Further, almost every nib can be improved, or matched to the person''s personal style. I think three of the pens in your video were starved - a little - for ink, the flow a bit too low. (Tines too tight.) I would suggest that when comparing nibs, they should all be tuned first, to make sure that they are at their best. No criticism, just adding to the discussion here.
Thanks for sharing your interesting PoV
Get them all! 😊
Agreed brother
I already have the sailor, scribo feel flex nib and m1000. All of them awesome pen!! Next wishlists are the namiki emperor, visconti, montegrappa and scribo 18k nib😊
Very cool!
Very nice!
Prefer? All of them depending on how I’m feeling. (Having said that, I don’t yet own a Namibian.) I love the feel of the nibs of the first three. Couldn’t possibly pick between them. You’re right. You have to have more than one pen!
More specifically that is a Sailor Pro Gear King of Pen.
I like the m1000, very soft and bouncy nib but need to be carefull with it.. Montblanc and sailor are fabulous.. had bad experience with the Namiki. Lately Namiki is not per quality. when i was buying my Yukuri Royle out of 5 i had a choice from all of their nibs were not aligned very well with the feeder 3 had uneven ink flow, my no 50 only when opened it back at home. i noticed the nib cut was not straight and again.. feeder and the nib not aligned properly, all is mostly cosmetics but still for this kind of money i expect more attention to details ( fortunately my feeder not having the bubble issues but who knows maybe with time ). if you get a proper one though.. its a gem of a pen.
Thanks for sharing this!
I am lucky to have all four pens in some variation. I’ll have to admit that I do have a soft spot for my japanese pens, so I tend to prefer my emperor and kop over my 149 and m1000. But somehow I find myself having quite a few more 149s and m1000s over the others. I think that is due to the fact that mb and pelikan used to have a variety of nibs available easily. I even have the 149 O3B and an pelikan 2B for instance and those were not specialty nibs back when I got them. They were just choices to have. One of the reasons why I don’t go for mb and pelikan pens is because of the nib options that are very limited nowadays. So it has to be something very special for me to get, like the green raden m1000 for instance; or the 149 curved nib which is a juicy glorious take on japanese calligraphy nibs. And although sailor kop’s and namiki emperor’s nib options were never great to start with, the writing experience is superior for me. And although it wasn’t on your line up, if you consider the sailor sekkei with the iconic naginata nib as kop, you just get perfection on variety in nibs and a stunner of a pen 😊 İn any case, I don’t think anyone would go wrong with any of those pens in your line-up. İt really comes down to personal preference in the end. But just an fyi: I have come to the conclusion that the type of paper and writing style I use varies according to the pen I use. Usually japanese pens will write comfortably on most paper but will shine on (surprise surprise) japanese paper. Same goes for western pens; I find they tend to flow better on western paper. This is just a personal observation based on my personal experience over the years. But I would have to note that paper quality and availability has evolved lightyears ahead in more recent years
Thanks for sharing your valuable insights
Oops, you called the Pelikan a Montblanc, shame on you Samuel. :) ;)
I know 😂😂😂
Me quedaría con las cuatro estilográficas.
Gracias ♥️🙏🏼
I have the good fortune of owning the four pens illustrated here. There is a reason why the Namiki #50 is the more expensive, which is the superlative quality and craftsmanship shown in the lacquering of the ebonite body with urushi, and the fantastic quality of the giant 18k Au nib. The other 3 are more similar, but I think that Pelikan offers huge value for money in the M1000. But all are exceptional pens, worthy of crowning any modern pen collection.
Great review Samuel! I have a Pelikan M800. Is there a noticeable difference between the M800 and M1000? Considering the M1000 as well.
Yes, huge difference between the two nibs. Completely different experience. Thank you ♥️🙏🏼
Thanks for the video, always enjoy them.
I have a few comments. 1) in my experience you are testing only the tip of the iceberg in what makes an enjoyable FP experience. I would submit that for real-world comparison one needs to fill all the pens, set them aside for 3 days to let the feed saturation dry completely up, then run the writing tests. My complaints about both my Sailor KoP Broad and my Pilot Custom Urushi Broad is that they can't stay wet and consistent after the feed saturation dries out. My MBs and my Pelikans have no problem with this, especially 149 and M1000. A nib that writes well with a dip but doesn't deliver the goods every time you pick up the pen, for however long you want to use it, is just an exercise in major frustration.
2) Your assertion in the video that the Sailor is more flexible than the 149 seems to not be supported in the least by the video -- I see zero line variation when you do your figure-8s with either of the pens. Perhaps you're correct about the Sailor being more flexible, but the video doesn't show it at all. (and I would submit that none of my 21k or 14k sailors have been remotely bouncy, much less flexible.)
Cheers! Matt
Thanks for your feedback 🙏🏼
Totally… it’s so frustrating if a pen doesn’t want to write immediately after a few days on the shelf. My Pelikan and Sailor pens always want to write and go to work immediately.
If I had the budget for it, I would go for the No50 without thinking it twice:
I love the color, nib size, ink capacity and the fact that it is an eyedropper.
But I would like to add a 5th player into the mix: What about ScriBo?
They use the same machinery as OMAS did back in the day and those pens are considered to be among the best in the pen world, and they have many nib options/grinds (18c/14c; EEF to BB) plus ebonite feed! :D
Scribo is great too, i‘ve always said that
Namiki beautiful experience. Still not having Sailor. What about Gvfc? Can you make comparison as well to show differences thanks
GvFC has a round and smooth writing feeling. Very cool and enjoyable
All great flagship models. I have a question - how was the writing experience of the Namiki nib? Does it provide more or less feedback than the Sailor? Also, does it write a little more on the fine side for a medium like Sailor or does it write even finer than that or does it writer between a sailor and the Montblanc? Thanks so much!
Less feedback on Emperor than Sailor, and more loyal to an actual M.
@@SamuelNaldi thanks so much!
I am a diehard Japanese nib fan. Pilot/Namiki are my choice. In fact, I am so dedicated that I am planning to have my Lamy Safari and TWSBI Eco sent to a nibmeister that can give ne a custom Japanese fine nib grind
Cool. Thanks for sharing
Not comparing with Jinhao as well?😊
Pelikan not Montblanc 🙃
Haha yeeeeesss - huge mistake. 😂
Have written with all of them, but the very best pen was missing from this video - Yukari Royale No. 20.
I own all of them plus the Yukari Royale #20, I prefer the #50
you can try visconti HS lava vs sailor KOP vs montblanc 149 vs namiki urushi emperor
Thanks for the suggestion
Very nice content ❤ Top nibs and hard decisions... maybe Montblanc because is stunning 😍 ✨️ 🤔 I also love Pelikan Sailor and Namiki 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Thank you for your comment! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Pilot
Haha - we missed that one
Sailor kop, namiki, montblanc looking to get a M1000 soon.
Cool!
Monblanc Souverain M1000? I don't think so.
😂 just a mistake
I do make mistakes 😂
Yesssssss
Though I haven't tried the others, I am extremely satisfied with my KoP, because it is both smooth and precise. I feel justified by your high opinion of it.
I wonder how you would judge these pens based on value vs. price.
Thanks for sharing! Prices are all fair considered the differences of each pen. 🙏🏼
❤❤❤❤❤
🙏🏼♥️
For me the Sailor KOP is on a league all its own and the top favourite. But I cannot imagine my life without my Pelikan maki-e or without the S.T. Dupont Line D in blue lacquer. We are talking about jewels on the crown of fountain pens.
Thanks for sharing with us Gihan!
Goodnight, I have an opportunity to buy a Montblanc Homer (black one) or a 149, my understanding is that they both use the same nib, any thoughts?
Go with the Homer. You can always buy the 149.
