I got my Tech license last month and passed my General today. and I have been a bit overwhelmed when it comes to understanding antennas. After watching 26 min. of this video it is all starting to make sense ! I have been building and fabricating most of my adult life so making antennas sounds like a lot of fun! I can't wait to get started! Many thanks for the video!

Thank you so much for this. I've got a few store bought antennas and parts of antennas that I need to properly assemble and test but I kinda reached a dead end but this video has shown me that the road is still open, it was just a mental block.

Thanks for another great video. I almost gave up a few times studying for tech. You and notarubicon were so entertaining that I kept watching vids and didn’t give up. Test is tomorrow. I get mid 90% on practice test. Hope I pass!

DX Engineering is my go to aluminum antenna parts source. Built a couple of verticals using materials from them!

I've been watching for a bit now and I want to say thank you! I followed Field Craft for years and am glad you guys hooked up. Anyway you can do a handi talkie for a pepper on the move? Let's say to travel and grab a loved one but want to stay in communication while on the move? More of a tactical usage for comms. Maybe a station for the 2 points and a handi talkie for the person or persons traveling?

A little before 16:00 in, a balun is basically a matching transformer. 1:1 is common for center fed dipoles. They can be wound for Voltage or Current. I prefer Current as it stops current from leaking back down the shield of the coax.

If you're running metric... use 300 not 468.

That Phantom Signals sounds similar to some of the shows that Travis S. Taylor has been on. He had a History Channel show a couple of years called The Tesla Files. You listen to him and you think oh, this guy's a country bumpkin because of his Alabama accent when in fact he's an accomplished rocket scientist with multiple graduate degrees.

Built a 20M dipole with a 1:1 balun and 12ga speaker wire. I put a mast up (with a TV antenna mount and a guy wire) off the peak of my house to a tree at about 25 feet high, and soon to a further tree... It has treated me so well I am building a 40M with the same materials. Winter is killing me with no sunlight after work.
edit: If it doesn't look like 1998, is it even a ham radio website?

Seen a lot of videos but still trying to think through where and how to start.
    Thanks!

An interesting channel, there are also many radio amateurs in Russia. I've been watching your channel for a month now. In Russia, radio amateurs are becoming less and less. Is the situation the same with radio amateurs in the states?

    So... antennas yes.
But what do I attach my newly home brewed j-pole or slim Jim to? How do I get that sucker up in the air without buying a Rhone tower? 😁

Get a extending pool rod and attach it to there.

My first one I did with a block of wood at the peak. Used a pipe clamp and the antenna basically just sits in it. No wind is going to lift it. Used that for 4 years till I went to a used commercial antenna.
