As a mom this episode just about turned me into a sobbing pile of goo. Just the thought of losing a child and then that beautiful poem! I looked it up and saved it to my pinterest so that I'll always have it.
Everything I hear of that poem, I think about my, sister and brother who have both passed and what my parents went thru. When they lost two of their children.
This was too much. NCIS has gone nuts!!! This past year has dealt me the death of my mother, youngest brother and a dear cousin that was more sister. . . I’ve had enough reality and look to NCIS to provide an escape. I have watched faithfully since I’ve Princess on JAG. I have every season on DVD but it may be time to say goodbye.
Unfortunately programme makers have to include scenes which might upset some viewers because unfortunately people do get sick, are involved in accidents or get shot and die and if they didn't include every scene which included those things for fear of upsetting someone, the programmes wouldn't be worth the time and effort of making.
Wow that poem got me. My dad passed over 2 years ago a couple months after my 25th birthday. Worst day of my life having to say goodbye, take him off life support and watch him take his final breath. I'm blessed that my mom and I can turn to one another and have continued to help each other through. I also lost my nephew earlier that year. He was only a toddler. 2nd worst day of my life. That poem made me think about the memories my mom and talk about. The laughs we have when we think of something my dad or nephew did. Turning to those around you to laugh and cry WITH you really is so immensely important when handling grief. And just because they're gone doesn't mean you still can't find evidence of them in and all around you.
I can relate in having to be the one to tell the doctor it’s time to turn off the machines. I had to with my dad, then a few years later had to witness my mom have a massive stroke. It broke me. Nuff said
I'm so glad I walked away from this show years ago. The random updates on my suggestions are so dark and sad. I really feel for the fandom, you all go through so much.

I always get so invested in shows and end up heart broken when my favourite characters leave or die, I know it’s to boost engagement and shite like that but it sucks.
Since 2018, I've lost 15 friends to fentanyl and meth overdoses. People I've known since elementary school. I lost my best friend since Kindergarten in 2017 due to an overdose on fentanyl, he was only 27. This episode is about as REAL as it gets. I definitely shed more than one tear. I was bawling. Losing one or two friends to drugs is hard enough, but losing 15 within 6 years is heartwrenching. This episode definitely got to me
@@TRYING222SURVIVE right, to propel Abby's exit, even though the magical connection between their characters was non existent before the arc. It was sloppy at best.
I see a lot of comments about characters being killed off for no reason. You never know when any day will be your last. People die suddenly with no explanation every day. At least this show can drive that point home.
My wife and I worked as background on this scene unfortunately a few minutes before this clip. We are seen in the waiting room sitting behind Gibbs and Toby when a doctor walks out and leads us out of the waiting room. But we were able to see the remainder of the waiting room scene from the sidelines. Very poignant even after seeing it about 15 takes.
the first time i heard that poem i just started crying, i didn't lose any child of mine because i never had childrens yet but i know what it's like to lose people you love and family, i lost 4 times and each time i literally started tearing up the second i realised what happened to them, and when you have my sight of the world it's a bit worse then just losing, i can sometimes basically see stuff in the future or hints of stuff in life, sometimes i ethier see that someone i love gonna die soon or after someone i love dies i think i see ways they could've been saved, if i see one of the deaths i can't talk about it with anyone because i am not 100% sure it's gonna happen and i have nothing that can help save them, if they get in the hospital i can't even visit, best i can do is sit down and wait.
why cut it short? The last line of the poem killed me "So, when all that's left of me/is love,/give me away." As someone who lost a close family member in 2020, I felt Palmer's loss keenly as well as Fornell's. This poem is so freaking beautiful that I was weeping at the end of the show even more than I would, normally, empathizing with the characters...

To me, the writers, producers and actors did an amazing job on this episode. They draw you in emotionally, then they make you FEEL her death personally.
For those that may not understand the significance of a group of professionals talking about these things, death, in particular, it is important to understand what role it plays in grief. A great book, I'd recommend is 'Achilles in Vietnam'.

The part of reading of the poem hit right in the gut especially since I lost my grandfather and was never able to say goodbye I know its not the same but it still hurts
This shows what happens And sometimes they might get addicted to another drug being their end. This shows how one or multiple mistakes can be the end. And how affects the families who have lost loved ones because of a relapse or and addiction. And it’s showing how hard it is to move on from that kind of loss. A young life taken just out of the blue and the families not knowing until their kid don’t wake up or not have a heart beat. Which is a little harder to stomach in real life than on a tv show.
I cried so hard because this the same way I lost my best friend shock to the system accidental overdose I miss him every fucking day of my life I would have given anything to not have lost him
That's one way to fire an actor. Is Fornell gona be next? After everything he went through for his daughter now this. Gibbs will have to make sure he doesn't bite the bullet literally.
Joe spano is better than the garbage he's been given on ncis. He was on hill street blues, which I think is a better show than ncis. Fornell hasn't been well written in years. I do think Joe spano should go to the NBC tv show law and order organized crime.
Tbe sound editing is fantastic. The scene with Fornell and Gibbs the sound cuts out so you only get their reactions. It goes to Ncis office with the news of Fornell's daughter and Vance reading the poem. You get sound from the scene at the hospital until after Gibbs embraces Fornell and you can hear him sobbing. You can still hear Vance's poem while the sound from everyone else is cut out

Then there was Lara Macy from the LA spinoff who has her throat slit and body burned, recurring character Paula Cassidy who lost her team then dies stopping a bomber.
you can see both fornell and gibbs faces change as the doctor walks out
My father died last week and that poem brought tears to my eyes. 😢
Cómo consigo el poema? Es hermoso, da esperanza da alivio
I am so sick of the writers killing off NCIS characters!
The good NCIS characters what is next Abby, Tony, and Ziva (again)
Honestly I think the show is on its way out. It’s been a solid run. Mark Harmon wants to do more directing. I fully expect next season will be the last.
@@ruadhrose one of the few crime shows that didn't get canceled ..I missed CSI NY
They told the actress who plays emily with a text
@@robynowen2583 Well that's pretty shitty of them!
This show just never stops kicking this dude in the balls.
Is Season 18 the worst emotionally for NCIS fans. One of owned get shot; Breanna passed away due to Covid; Emily had a fatal drug overdose; now someone we love gets arrested. What is happening?!
And to top it all off Gibbs’ boat has fucking EXPLODED!!
At what point do you just don't care anymore. They're killing off another loved one or someones in trouble - again. It's not emotional when its overkill.
My daughters died before 5 1/2. That poem kills me. All the memories.
😢😔
So heartbreaking because Gibbs is not a hugger, but he hugged Fornell and pulled his head in.
I remember when I was a little kid visiting my grandma while she was watching NCIS...
And now Im still seeing new episodes
The writers really went dark that season..I never in my life thought they would take Fornell's daughter away from him...wow..
This was too much. NCIS has gone nuts!!! This past year has dealt me the death of my mother, youngest brother and a dear cousin that was more sister. . . I’ve had enough reality and look to NCIS to provide an escape. I have watched faithfully since I’ve Princess on JAG. I have every season on DVD but it may be time to say goodbye.
im sorry about your family, i hope you find peace one day
@@Wolfy39565
Thank you!!!
Makes me glad I walked away on season 17.... I'm so sorry for your losses; rehashing real life nastiness isn't what TV is for.
And just because they're gone doesn't mean you still can't find evidence of them in and all around you.
my dad 12 29 05 and 14 days later i was turning 26. and mom died 11 25 98 at 54
I can relate in having to be the one to tell the doctor it’s time to turn off the machines. I had to with my dad, then a few years later had to witness my mom have a massive stroke. It broke me. Nuff said
I'm so glad I walked away from this show years ago. The random updates on my suggestions are so dark and sad. I really feel for the fandom, you all go through so much.
I walked away too. It seems the only way to propel the stories anymore is by killing someone 🤷♀️
Same.
Killing off Emily is just cruel.
I walked away years ago, because I couldn't handle the way they treat their characters anymore.
The show should just end.
Soon.
@@LiaSaxophone13 that's exactly how I feel. If they're so low on ideas that they have to resort to these tactics just to do SOMETHING, then it's probably time to wrap it up before they take any more away from how great this show was.
I walked away after Tony and Abby left, for me it wasn’t the same and it felt so weird without them. I just couldn’t go on watching after my favourite characters left the show. I always get so invested in shows and end up heart broken when my favourite characters leave or die, I know it’s to boost engagement and shite like that but it sucks.
That poem made me cry during the episode and again now. It touches the heart so much.
What breaks me just as much as the hug, is the look Gibbs has when he figures it out before the doctor even says anything😢
This episode definitely got to me
if there is another death like this, i may just give up on ncis
I gave up after Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo left. And after seeing Breena and now Emily? Yeah glad I did.
@@jbell2753 you known cote came back, turns out they wrote in the script she escaped through a tunnel.
@@edgarbrooks7695 yeah I saw that she was still alive but she’s not “back” and neither is Weatherly.
I stopped watching when they kill off Clayton Reeves.
This was a death we needed. While we never wanted it, we needed to feel the pain addiction causes.
2 of the men in Gibbs's life and they both now know what he has lived through.
Losing a family member is one of the worst feelings in the world you feel like your heart is hurting and aching
I lost my brother in-law last July of this year he was more of a brother than my real brother it still hurts thinking about him
My wife and I worked as background on this scene unfortunately a few minutes before this clip. We are seen in the waiting room sitting behind Gibbs and Toby when a doctor walks out and leads us out of the waiting room. But we were able to see the remainder of the waiting room scene from the sidelines. Very poignant even after seeing it about 15 takes.
They didn't have to do this
i agree. I dont understand why killing so many so soon is necessary unless they are actually ttying to bring the show to an end
It would have been nicer to see some survive addiction.
What a way to go out. Didn’t see this coming. 😭😭😭😭
🥺😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
😭😭😭😭😭😭
She deserved better than this though.
@@IWantToMature85 Completely agree!
So many deaths! I just want to know why they did this one.
If Delilah dies, I'll probably quit watching. :(
I stopped when Ziva, Abby and Tony left.
@Brand X
A statement I, Jesus, can get behind
If Delilah dies, I think Mcgee would probably quit.
I’m pretty close to that right now. What a-holes.
if ducky dies which is a possible rumor than it’s even worse
First Breena and now Emily ??!! I didn’t see it coming too...
Me too.
@Joshua Selig no Breen’s died of COVID complications
Gibbs, and Fornell now share something in common, especially after losing a wife, and daughter for each of them.
NCIS never had a reputation for being cruel. This was just cruel 😢💔!!
I’m glad I’ve given up on this series when I did on s11. Seems like I really dodged a missile there
the first time i heard that poem i just started crying, i didn't lose any child of mine because i never had childrens yet but i know what it's like to lose people you love and family, i lost 4 times and each time i literally started tearing up the second i realised what happened to them, and when you have my sight of the world it's a bit worse then just losing, i can sometimes basically see stuff in the future or hints of stuff in life, sometimes i ethier see that someone i love gonna die soon or after someone i love dies i think i see ways they could've been saved, if i see one of the deaths i can't talk about it with anyone because i am not 100% sure it's gonna happen and i have nothing that can help save them, if they get in the hospital i can't even visit, best i can do is sit down and wait.
why cut it short? The last line of the poem killed me "So, when all that's left of me/is love,/give me away."
As someone who lost a close family member in 2020, I felt Palmer's loss keenly as well as Fornell's. This poem is so freaking beautiful that I was weeping at the end of the show even more than I would, normally, empathizing with the characters...
To the poster of this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the closed captions. They should always be on regardless, even if it's the automatic translator. You have no idea how hard it is to try to hear dialog when one is hard of hearing or in a position that we can't listen at that moment.
If this was NYPD Blue it would be upsetting but half expected. The darker gritty cop shows you get half used to characters dying but with so much light-hearted humour in NCIS the deaths are so tragic, even ones that happened before the show!

U left Eli David but still seeing this list really hurts .. ncis has killed more characters than its total number of seasons.. one more death in ncis n I'm done
@@kaviyakaavs I left him out intentionally, Tom Morrow was an iffy one too but he still tried to look out for NCIS, Eli left his own daughter to rot.

@@kaviyakaavs not all, some have just left never to return. Jeanne Benoit, Gerald Jackson, DiNozzo Sr., Lt. Col. Hollis Mann were all in more episodes than Eli David believe it or not.
Gibbs knows loss, he lost his daughter, first wife, frank, his dad, fellow agents, and friends that where more like family than anything
I knew I shouldn't have watched this, I did not want to cry today.
I didn’t watch it and I’m not going to.
idk it just really sucks that they took the addiction storyline and ended it so tragically. becoming sober does not always end with an overdose. people do grow stronger and get past it, and i really, really hoped that emily would have too.
I cried during this episode I felt so bad for him. 😭😭😭 Because this is really true in real life. Parents loose there kids and family due to drugs
My mom literally walked in my room because I wasn’t in the mood for NCIS and she said “Fornells daughter died” and I knew instantly “overdose isn’t it” and my mom said “yes” I was not happy.
The poem reminds me of "when tomorrow starts without me" by David Romano.
Fuck, Emily is now dead. I feel really bad for Fornell, he lost his wife and now he lost his child. 😔
He has that in common with Gibbs now.
The part of reading of the poem hit right in the gut especially since I lost my grandfather and was never able to say goodbye I know its not the same but it still hurts
This was a gut-punch, so many good characters killed on this show, Fornell's daughter was probably the hardest.
the way this shows does all the emotional scenes, no other show does it like this
This shows what happens And sometimes they might get addicted to another drug being their end.
Gibbs and Fornell lost all, Emily was an 2 Daughter for Gibbs and Fornell lost all his family, his job.... it's so so sad 😭😭😭
losing your daughter or son so young is a real tragedy! personally no words could help me and dissuade me from joining her / him on the other side
The poem in this scene hits harder now that Ducky’s gone...
Oh my god. This is probably their most powerfully sad moment yet!
This character's death was unnecessary in the series.
March 2021, I’m bawling my eyes out over that poem
I forget the name of author, but the name of the poem is “The Dash”. It’s a beautiful poem. I try to live by the concept.
WHAT THE... Havent they had enough pain?💔
I cried so hard because this the same way I lost my best friend shock to the system accidental overdose I miss him every fucking day of my life I would have given anything to not have lost him
Gibbs and Fornell are close but now they about to be even closer because now they both know what it’s like to lose their wife and their child
There is no pain quite like it and it never stops.
That's one way to fire an actor. Is Fornell gona be next? After everything he went through for his daughter now this. Gibbs will have to make sure he doesn't bite the bullet literally.
They didn't fire her. She was not under contract and only signs one when agreeing to do an episode.
Joe spano is better than the garbage he's been given on ncis. He was on hill street blues, which I think is a better show than ncis. Fornell hasn't been well written in years. I do think Joe spano should go to the NBC tv show law and order organized crime.
And they worked so hard trying to catch the people responsible for her drugs
Wow...that poem hits home hard because of my mom my sister and my crashy 💙😭
I haven't watched this season yet and this poem still made me cry
One :Diane
Two : emily
Is not possible 😔😔😔
I recently watched the episode where she got kidnapped by a money launderer and held for ransom. This feels unreal.
You can still hear Vance's poem while the sound from everyone else is cut out
This episode made me tear up, but that poem through me over the edge. 😭😭😭
A lot of people really hated this one not only did Jimmy lose his wife to covid but for now losing his daughter, the fact that they lost their therapist and that Bishop also left at the end of the season after I will they won't name relationship with Taurus that's just a season of losses to me.
Ncis was my Favorit Serie. But it has ended for me for 2 years for sure, with relay 13.
