I learned today in another review: He's subverting us yet again. It's not the evidence of missiles, the character Deverau is the unimportant maguffin that drives the plot. It was intentional for everyone else to be more important and more interesting than what we think is the lead.

While watching Topaz, I assumed most of the actors were Americans putting on French accents. But then I realized they were actually French but just struggled with English. So some of their performances seemed wooden, especially Philippe Noiret

David here I’ve been a movie buff for over 50 years. Just saw this movie in December 2024. I thought it was really good. I surprised a lot of people didn’t like it. Yes it was slow. Yes it was not with a lot of stars but it was an interesting time capsule from the 1960sall the Cold War and spy movies. I think I’d give a six out of 10 popcorn boxes. See you at the movies.

Excellent. Glad you liked it. That's the best part about movies. They hit each person differently.

Interesting. I think this is the most modern, it could have been made today movie Hitchcock ever made. It's a straight up spy movie without the North by Northwest silliness. Even though I like North by Northwest.
And you've got to love that purple dress scene.
Without the big movie stars you get a chance to focus on the plot and script. It's Hitchcock's adult movie.

Yes!! That purple dress scene was amazing! And I'll agree with you on the cast thing as well.

Wow couldn’t disagree more. I thought the acting was extremely wooden and the filmmaking itself was so old fashioned. Some of Hitch’s movies from the 40’s seemed more modern

@@123rockfan I'm talking strictly script and plot.
