Yeah, prefer the more comedic decades of the 80’s and 90’s then came the noughties and everything had to be so serious. All angry like with no humour just people wanting to strangle each other just for being glanced at 😂

Yup, gave the movie a watch on a whim with no background knowledge of it whatsoever. And if im gonna be honest this movie was 9/10 for me and is worthy of going down as a classic. The action is masterfully choreographed and shot - extra points for not adding in an obnoxious amount of jump-cuts. The story was simple and easy to follow whilst still being entertaining due to the classic nature of it. They even went all out on the atmosphere, making sure that the lighting and spaces all contributed to the impact of certain moments and emotions being felt by the characters.
However, the shining star of the film is absolutely the characters. I'm not an expert on chinese character design, but whoever was writing for this movie definitely knew their stuff. Every main character was either wonderfully likable or superbly annoying, with real-to-life interactions and witty banter that adds life to them. Every character had something at stake and every fight was meaningful. The actors also brought the roles to life wonderfully,.
This film reached a nice balance of action, story, character design and atmosphere that many modern films struggle to reach nowadays. As the title states, its all about the city of darkness kowloon, and thats exactly what we get. No unecessary fluff or political commentary. Just dirt, grit, grime and crime

This movie is made with China's rules. That means you'll have very black and white characters (super good guys and super bad guys) and no "Infernal Affairs" style twists at the end

I didnt appreciate the name change between the two trailers - they were pushing City of Darkness first, then all of a sudden they want to push Twilight of the Warrior.... not sure what was wrong with the original title of Kowloon Walled City...
