VUUR is the new band of Anneke van Giersbergen, the queen of Dutch metal. Her career started in the mid-1990s when she became the frontwoman of The Gathering, the metal band with which she quickly toured all over the world. In 2007 she went solo as Agua de Annique, then she took her own name again and now there is VUUR. With VUUR Van Giersbergen wants to explore the harder, progressive side of metal.

These shackles will not hold you down... This song has been like an anchor for me ever since I first heard Anneke perform this live in a record store in Leiden, celebrating the release of her fabulous album with het band Vuur 🔥 ‘In this moment we are free - Cities’. Anneke hand wrote the lyrics for me and I had that framed and hung it on my wall next to my staircase, as it is always guiding me up to that higher level. And yes, I did indeed immediately buy Anneke’s entire back catalogue directly through her - and she autographed each disc for me and hand wrote the address label herself. She even sent me a station call announcing herself on my Ron’s Brew radio show back in 2018. Anneke just rules, I love her to bits.
