    The problem with her-description of her brother’s character, is that extreme competitiveness does not make for good judgement and we need good judgement at the moment in the UK.

      Andrew Walton You are absolutely right.

    • @kellyowens1868
      @kellyowens1868 5 лет назад

      I'm not trying to be argumentative, but why are "extreme competitiveness" and "good judgement" mutually exclusive, in your mind. I don't mean to sound Trumpian, but the basis of Brexiting, is a successful negotiation with the EU, which hasn't negotiated in good faith, throughout the entire process,
      in an effort to effectively reverse the results of the referendum. A negotiation is a competition, after all, in it's purest form. If you were an actress, a footballer, or a member of a labour union, would you rather have a negotiator who was passive, & non-competitive, by nature, with loads of "good judgement," or an aggressive, highly competitive individual, with a modicum of "good judgement," ?
      I can't picture someone who is "extremely competitive," & lacking in "good judgement" being the least bit successful in life, can you? It brings to mind a fool, who is constantly getting in over his head, losing very often, and never learning from his experiences. That image doesn't mesh with Boris Johnson's CV very well. Do you think the British Prime minister exercised good judgement, when he withdrew his name from consideration for the Prime Minister's post, in the wake of the Brexit vote, when Cameron resigned.

      "Boris" Johnson's problem isn't lack of intelligence. He is perfectly intelligent and understands the situation. His problem is complete amorality. He is completely cynical and a proven liar, time and again. The Johnsons are probably all a slippery bunch. It appears to me that Rachel here is catering her answers to her audience 🤔 to a large extent. But that doesn't matter. She isn't nor ever has had ambitions to be Prime Minister. Her brother has. He notoriously wrote two opinion pieces for the Telegraph. One pro Europe and Remain, the other pro Leave. Boris was always pro European. But he knew that being Remain would get him nowhere in the Tory hierarchy and the momentum was with Leave. So he decided to back Leave. Leave was his way to the top, and Prime Ministership of the UK. He NEVER really believed in the snake oil he was peddling. Did you see his expression on the morning AFTER the vote ? He ( and Gove) looked terrified. They never seriuosly thought that Leave would WIN. They were hoping to fight a good campaign, lose but get themselves into the good books of the right wing nutter faction of the Tories. Those that were always threatening to defect to Farage and UKIP. Perhaps Boris never thought that people would really believe his BS and lies on the side of the bus. Unfortunately the great British public did. Perhaps they thought they'd stick one to David Cameron. We'll vote the opposite to what Cameron wants. That'll TEACH HIM. Yeah. That really taught him.. 😏😒

    @13:50 "Let's say I wanted to work in Paris... I can't now" - Who says? And as it's been, let's say you wanted to work in Australia, or America, or India or somewhere in Latin America (and visa versa) - you can't as it is, but you might be able to with a new FTA. And if after a clean break Brexit you wanted to work in Paris, it would only be the centralised controls of the EU that might stop you. This is not freedom, this is movement with permission. If a Paris company wanted to employ you then you ought to be able to just go if we promoted freedom. That's what leave is promoting. You begin with making your own elected government accountable for freedom. And you would only be blocked but other countries that opposed freedom, which is the protectionist nature of the EU. So either you are for freedom or you're not. Voting remain is a vote for protectionism; i.e. against freedom.

A quiet and respectful conversation in the which the loud madness of this modern age, can be quite we for an hour or so. You get an intelligent guest and a fantastic interviewer who lets the guest speak...to open up...to let there personality naturally flow. Rachel Johnson in light of her position, seems down to earth, thoughtful and self deprecating to match. This particular chat is relaxed...lucid...funny and informative. This elitist English boarding school view is so very limited to the minority of the population in both the UK & Europe, the majority sadly do not have a voice. This is a great illustration of why there is such a divide in the UK and throughout Europe.

    Why is Brexit a bad idea ? The EU is (1) big socialism (2) big capitalism (3) the continuation of Germany by other means. Brexit is a good idea.

      @Ru22eLL You misunderstand because you're thinking only about Brexit.
      Brexit isn't the main concern when it comes to a conservative uk gov'. Boris will inflict Neo Liberal policy upon the Public, taking us down the US path.

      U don’t have 2, it’s just very good if u r a big exporter or if u r a poorer country so your money stays stable. Switzerland has that problem, they spend a fortune to keep their currency down. Germany, Austria.... would have the same problem. The mark would just skyrocket if they pull out.

    Boris is only using Brexit to leverage his career. He's a cynical lying opportunist who clearly doesn't even believe half the things he says while saying them - yet his political base lap it up. The rude awakening comes when the grim reality of Brexit fails to match the wafting rhetoric.
