I am a student, and a self-taught photographer, I honestly can say materials are expensive and I can't afford the materials you use. Do you think you I can still capture an image this good with a starter camera and a lighting kit?
Yes you can to a large extent bro . once you understand the how to, then you can recreate several stunning images with your gear.
Also i suggest you invest in materials if you want to take your work to the next level, no pain no gain.
