Because they want they're lyrics to reach out to the non-German communities. That's what most artists want, people to know, relate, and most of all understand their music.
i already made others translate 1000 meere for me but this is better, actually understanding what it says. i loved it as all other th songs. but this is one of my fave th songs too=) its sooo awesome.
At least I understand it more because it's English, but I still prefer the original German version. (: But I think they're really awesome to sing an English version so that fans who don't understand German can sort of understand the lyrics, especially when English isn't their mother tongue. Kudos to Tokio Hotel. :D
