    White Sapote (Casimiroa edulis) is a Florida Delicacy. The fruit is like a custard and loaded with sweetness! White Sapote trees are surprisingly cold hardy here in Florida and are related to Citrus; in the Rutaceae Family. We feel that this tree is under-utilized and definitely deserves a spot in your garden!

      I found some for sale at a local market located inside Rockledge Gardens on the Space coast so yeah, seems like some locals are growing it. It’s quite tasty and has a “brightness” to it but also pretty sweet. Which makes sense with the citrus relation.

    I had a question, what machine do you use to make your plant labels? It can be difficult to remember the names as I grow my fruit forest. I usually just use sharpie on white labels but they always fade out in the sun, so wanted to be able to print something like the labels you use, THANKS

      One option is to use soda can and cut it up and use as tag. Be careful it can be sharp,so sand the edges down. It will be a permanent indentation as you write.

(1) you and your son do some pellet shooting and have some delicious squirrel stew.....or.......(2) bait a "Have A Heart" trap and carry the squirrels about 10 miles away from the house and release them...... and save Mr. Sapote ! LOL

    I laughed a little at “our 9b cold winters.” I’m in 8a NC coast and I consider our winters “mild.” When I heard “cold hardy” I got excited. I’m always looking for some interesting, tropical-like trees that can survive here. Ah, well.

      you could try out cherimoya. its cold hardy to 8 and i bet it could be pushed down to 7 even. they naturally like to grow in colder areas in the tropics in mountains where it freezes in winter. they don't do as well in the tropical lowlands.

    • @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL
      @PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL  4 года назад

      Hello! We sell plants by appointment from our farm. Unfortunately with the citrus greening there isn’t any that’s easy to grow. They all pretty much require nasty chemicals to survive here. I always tell people to buy from Home Depot or Lowe’s if they want citrus, save your receipt because it is returnable within two years.

      No sane person in the Southern USA should intentionally plant kudzu, but foraging it or feeding it to goats (& eating the goats) should help with control. Green Deane's "Eat the Weeds" channel is good, though he is longer on identification than recipes. Check it out. (Or learn Japanese, and see how it is eaten where native?)

      Tulle. Buy bolts for cheap on eBay. Wrap the base of the trees to keep them from climbing. Wrap the individual fruit if they're tree hopping.

      Different plant families. It seems that the Mexica (Aztec/Nahuatl) called just about every large, sweet fruit other than cacti by some variation of "zapotl." Similarly, the Romans named virtually every large fruit after apples (pomegranates were "apples of Carthage," peaches "apples of Persia," and apricots "Armenian apples.". (They were wrong on some of that geography, naming things after where they first found them, not where the plants were originally native).
