Im from finland and never actually realized that theres also region called just ostrobotnia besides north-, central- and south-ones. Thought ostrobotnia just involved all those three. But it is own ceparate region. I usually talk about something being in ostrabotnia meaning it might be anywhere in those.
Fact checker: Swedish is in fact the second official language in Finland, not just Uusimaa. This is due to Finland being part of Sweden before Russia. Also as pointed out about 1/3rd of the Finnish population lives in and around Helsinki. Finland is part of Fennoscandia, instead of scandinavia. Its also part of the nordics. Would also like to add the fact about Hämeenlinna - it is the oldest city in Finland.
In Finland lives 5,6 million people (November 2023). In Uusimaa lives about 1 million people. So in Uusimaa and Helsinki doesnt live half of population of Finland.
