Hey, No you don't buy the product upfront, thats not how dropshipping works. Tell him your are a dropshippers and ask for rates and carriers he uses, if he doesn't have answer move on he needs business not you. Cheers

You can do that from the theme customizer but if you used some custom made scripts you might need to remove them if it didn't work.
