When I first started watching Shadowhunters I didn't think I would like Jace at all. I thought he was too stereotypical and his arc just didn't seem interesting to me. But if there was ever a character that is a study on trauma it's Jace. From Valentine, to being an orphan, to just overall being afraid to love and not valuing his own life. Jace really is a tragic character.
I'm not sure if this is how it is in the books since i've never read them, but I think the show did a good job portraying a character that has no idea what a healthy mental state is.
I didn't want to make it too depressing which is why I put him with his family and friends which I think is where he is most himself.
Honestly he deserves some happiness.
