Welcome to Rio de Janeiro!
One of Rio de Janeiro's postcards, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, is next to the Ipanema, Leblon, Gávea, Botanical Garden, Humaitá and Copacabana neighborhoods. It is a popular place for walks that take an average of 1.5 hours to make a complete contour in the lagoon, for its 4,7 miles. On the banks of the lagoon are the nautical of some Rio clubs, such as Flamengo, Vasco and Botafogo.
The lagoon also played host to Olympic sports. In 2007, Rio de Janeiro hosted the Pan American Games and, in 2016, hosted the Olympics, which underwent tests conducted at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, such as rowing and water skiing.
Another great achievement in the lagoon that behind many people is the Lagoon Christmas Tree. Every year a Christmas tree is set up right in the center of the lagoon and on the day of its inauguration there is a big fireworks event that always attracts thousands of cariocas. The tree is mounted until January 6th.
