Yes, his persona went to the next level after the commercial. The '70s Pittsburgh Steelers had another Super Bowl victory the January following this commercial's airing. It was a nice touch hearing Mr. Greene mention the Steelers' equipment manager, Tony Parisi, here.
'The kid" was a classmate and friend of mine. His name is Tom, from Whitestone NY. I just recently got back in touch wiht him. He is an Attorney in the U.K. now.
this guy has a lot of class, I always have thought so. he played hard and he played clean. in a generation of football players were the rules weren't like they are today, he had a common respect among not only his teammates but his peers as well.
bigfinewomanful did you see "a football life" with mean joe green last night ? it was awesome. kept my kids up to watch it ;-) ps- im a patriots fan (don't tell)
Man I would love to have seen Lambert or even Cardinals safety Larry Wilson do this commercial, two men notorious thumpers and no teeth. LMAO But Greene was great in it.

Always loved this commercial. It will always be listed as one of the all time greats!
The most amazing thing about it is, I just now understand that the kid was unhappy because Joe Greene drank all of his coke.
hightower1215 the kid offered it to him and Joe Green then gave him his football jersey.
Great job , Joe Green .
LOL i can see Lambert doing it but the best choice was Greene lol
