Going by the way in which the tree fell the wind is blowing against the other side of the house so the chair being on the patio is somewhat protected by the house while the tree stands well above catching all the air in it's branches.

The last big, bad tornadoes to sweep through here in West TN were insane.
My husband and I went riding through the carnage to see the damage and help look for the missing people. 😢
What I saw was ... well, idk if there's a word to describe it. Astonishing maybe?
There was a Community Center in one small town that had not been damaged or destroyed... the ground was not covered in rubble.
      It was just gone.
      Completely.
As if it had never been there to begin with.
All that was left was the foundation.
Like it had been picked up in its entirety and moved somewhere else.
Even the fields surrounding it were completely clean. No debris.
Like the tornado didn't even come through there but it was the cleanest place in the entire state that day.
      It's hard to describe.
But it's like if someone just picked up your house and it was suddenly gone.
      Everything inside it gone forever.

I was caught in a storm like that in Beaverton Oregon. I heard the wind howling and a loud grinding sound. My dog was outside. I got him safely up onto the balcony. Then one of the trees got ripped out falling to one side in the backyard and a very large tree was ripped and fell across the house from the front to the backyard. Luckily we didn't have any injuries. It's something you don't forget and makes you panic easily when caught in a storm. Stay safe and be blessed!

I saw this happen once in WA. Wind or rain will do this to a stand of trees like that. They're very thin & share the same root system. B/c they're so packed together, it doesn't take much to knock them down. In WA, they'd thin out groups/stands like these so they can develop their own roots & grow from "saplings" to good-sized tree that that can better handle the weather.

This is why drought conditions every few years are good for trees. Makes their roots grow deep to find water, making them stronger and better able to stand in high winds. Adversity isn't fun, but practically everything is made stronger through it.

@@floydholder597is absolutely right. I live in Dallas and we have a clay based soil with hard white rock beneath that, so the roots will actually begin to become more shallow for us as the roots will seek out the irrigation water from peoples sprinkler systems, causing the turf grass to thin from exposed tree roots fighting the grass for the water and nutrients.

This video is a proof of how shallow tree roots actually go below the lawn. Many struggle to grow vegetable garden next to their wooden fence and wondering why their plants do not grow. Vegetable plants need at least 18 inches of loose soil rich in organic matter, which is not available right under a tree.
