I saw this when I was a very little kid and Loved it, it's still one of my favorites. Especially the music. I was 32 yrs old when I finally learned that it was Felix Mendelssohn's "Hebrides Overture" (also known as "Fingers Cave) when @work on my NPR station from St Petersburg, WUSF. Just about every old song or part of a song, be it classical music or modern tune, was used by WBros. and I know and love them by heart. Thanks to those that made these gems possible on RUclips.🤓❤
Brilliant. classic WB cartoon. Whether it's one of his bizarre desert scapes or this jungle background worthy of Matisse painting, NOBODY does backgrounds like Chuck Jones. Such clean line and colors. The humor mixes surrealism with slapstick creating one hilarious WTF moment after another. The 'Fingal's Cave" minah bird theme has haunted me since childhood. But I mostly remember it from another cartoon, where a character was sleepwalking through all sorts of danger to this tune. I finally found it, maybe it'll stop playing in my head now. And Inky, once you get past the dubious humor of the name, and them big ol' lips he's treated with no more or less dignity that other warner brothers cartoon character; essentially a foil, like the Coyote. But the bird. The bird totally makes this cartoon. He has that same taciturn shows up out of nowhere + is totally unstoppable thing that Droopy has, only ten times more so...
I heard a million times how Ben Washam, when Shamus Culhane first came to the Jones Unit, wanted to watch him and see how an ex-disney animator approached his work. Culhane knocked him dead by literally sitting at his desk for four days, and then roughing out the whole sequence on friday. From what I've heard, it was the scene of the about 2:25 meeting. 0.e Culhane says that he HAD to think about it first - he had half the picture! (The other half is Bobe Cannon, and easy to tell apart. smooth.)
nice rendering of a African kid! that background music is classic! that lion! what a unique hairstyle he had! tha burd has class! this whole cartoon is awesome! modern cartoons are alright. .... but the old ones are still the best!
I love the minimalist, almost Dr. Seuss-like backgrounds from Chuck Jones' 1940's Warner Brothers cartoons. Jones is one of my all-time favorite animation directors.
Every kids should see this growing up! It showed me as a little kid that if you just keep going, you'll be the winner~! Love this one! Love this bird and the music!
MY GOD !!!!!!!!! I've been surfing the web for an hour before I finally got to this !!! Thanks for uploading !!! AMAZZZZING episode !!! I used to watch it all the time as a kid...
Ese pajaro is the best!. Tengo 38 años y les trate de eseñar a mis hijas (10 y 16) las cosas que yo veia de chiquito. simplemente es muy simple para sorprenderlas (valga la redundancia) .Que le paso a esta niñez y juventud! . Ya no hay humor blanco. Gracias por este video.
at University during a westernCiv.course we watched this and debated whether the bird represented Fate or GOD or BOTH we ent a telegram to ChuckJones who thought the whole idea was rubbish, but seemed genuinely amused that the piece was being seriously discussed in a philosophy classroom
Shamus Culhane was one of the animators. He mentioned that he worked on it in his book 'Talking Animals and Other People' but he never mentioned any message the story might have.
Huh. That's interesting. I think Inki represents man, bumbling his way thru life, the lion represents the physical material realm trying to kill him, and the bird represents the human spirit which overcomes the material, but doesn't explain anything to the man, because he knows it's all illusion, and sees it objectively.
CrazyBear65 I think you're looking too deep into something that should just be considered Life. Growing up all I saw in the cartoons was a crow hopping that made me laugh.
ACountryFan, I couldn't have written it any better than you! Your last sentence says it all!!!! As for me I love Inki and the Minah bird. A time and era of simplicity without being politically correct and as you say" a joke in itself"!!
yeah i remember it too fo some reason it got stocked in my head forever i loved minah the bird that bird was gangsta neva said a word n d song fingals cave wich is the songs that plays while the bird walks neve got out of my head till this day!!!!
This was always a favorite of mine when I was a kid, oh, Saturdays where wonderful. But my dad's cousin had a mynah bird that swore like a sailor. Not kosher for a very religious household. God I loved that bird.
I like the growling butterfly. The mynah bird is badass. I love how all the animals flee in terror and the trees shake--a horrible growling sound is heard and out pops--this small depressed bird.
yo tengo 32 ahora en noviembre y puse esto en mi muro del fb ... he buscado por todos lados al pajaro este y lo encontre al fin jajajaja muuuuy buenos los dibujos WB FTW!
Also, whoever is confused by this, in 'Animation from Script to Screen,' Culhane writes that the cartoon he tried high-speed on is 'Little Lion Hunter,' but both 'Talking Animals' and IMDB confirm that the clips were from this, and it's the only Inki cartoon Culhane animated on. (He only did about five cartoons for jones (!). His was the scene in 'Bugs Bunny and the Three Bears' with the mother trying to kiss Bugs at the end, that Thad K. gives to Rudy Larriva (not in Jones' unit at the time.)
I am in 100% agreement with theohiokid67! These were and are classics that hopefully will never determine what is right or wrong to watch and enjoy without someone yelling " foul". Get a grip , don't like it ,don't watch, it is your loss!
Did someone say 'not love that dratted Minah bird!' I watched these cartoons as a kid and that damned Minah bird scared the pants off me! Look at that last scene - that's a feathered dinosaur! Minahsaurus Rex at least! Very effective indeed. They had such an effect on me that I cannot now hear Fingal's cave without shivers running up my spine. But I agree with a lot of the comment in the stupidity of banning crreatiions like this - these forms of censorship are like prohibition - useless.
Back in time in 3... 2... 1...!!! Just when me and my brothers watched this cartoon when se were kids!! Its me or there are more toons with Inki and Minah Bird?
How the fuck can you say "no race card" when you white civilization did the vast majority of suppression of another race and literally have racist caricatures in the animation. Like you are clearly are being ridiculous @@ChocolateFizzles
Suppression of other races was invented in Africa, by Africans, for use on other Africans. Looking past contemp. squabbles, the boy hunter here iscurious, trying to deal with a curious world. His caratature is no more exaggerated than other types in cartoons, hillbillies, etc. And there are none of the usual stereotypes, which appear in those cartoons that are actually racist. Not a watermelon in sight. Only thing open to criticism is the name ‘Inki’. That shows an outside point of view, as no one around there would think the character was distinctively inky.. These should be revived for the Mynah bird. Did Jones ever explain him? I take him to be the big events and ideas that sweep through ordinary life, with unexpected and incomprehensible results.
Also, if you look at a lot of scenes of Culhane's lion, his back legs look identical to Pluto's. His Inki also has a much more literally shaped head (especially the hair and lips), and he takes Chuck's layouts more literally than Cannon. (He only lasted five cartoons in the Jones unit, he was only in Schlesinger to direct war films, and left when he found out they were farming them to Tashlin. He went to Lantz afterwards..) Cannon's style you can't unsee. They're made of mercury.
It's my understanding that the animator who worked on the Lion in this cartoon was Shamus Culhane, a maverick in the industry. He began at Fleischer's studio working on the early Betty Boops and graduated up to Disney's Snow White and Pinocchio. When he wore out his welcome at Disney's and Fleischer's (again), he went to WB where Leon Schlesinger offered him a directors job. He worked on this one cartoon, and when Schlesinger reneged on his director's offer, he quit.
The child in me still loves the way the Mina Bird is bad news for EVERYBODY, he shows up and just rains destruction in general. He is just FATE, with feathers. Muy cierto!
This bird is probably the most powerful character in Looney Tunes universe
Damn straight! Stronger than all!
Taz may have something to say about that!!!
Indian Joe is equally strong
I concur.
For a while I thought these cartoons with the Minah bird were a part of my imagination. Thanks for bringing these wonderful cartoons back!
I loved this as a youngster! I used to mimic the Minah bird when he came on screen - and the music has remained with me eevr since!
Waoooow, awesome....I used to watch this when I was a kid, glad to see it again now.
Just love this cartoon

That song!!! it keeps rolling in my mind...over and over again....I love it...thanks 4 the vid
Fabulous animation, especially the lion. A forgotten gem, I love it.
nice rendering of a African kid!
that background music is classic!
that lion! what a unique hairstyle he had!
tha burd has class!
this whole cartoon is awesome! modern cartoons are alright. .... but the old ones are still the best!
Another one of the classics. The Caveman Inki shorts have always stuck with me from childhood, largely because of the Mynah's iconic theme music.
15 años de este comentario! Espero se encuentre bien usted.
Nice cartoon, the music is "The Hebrides" from Mendelsson
Music in this vid has indeed sponged off Mendelsson. Never noticed that before.
Thanks for letting us know the music. My Dadand Looney Tunes got me into classical.
Try Fingal's cave by Mendelsson
Hebrides Overture (Fingals Cave) Felix Mendelssohn, can't t hear it without seeing the mynah bird. ❤️❤️❤️
I’d never be able to just enjoy the music... it’s forever linked to a mental image of that invincible mynah bird :-)
I HAVE LOOKED FOR THIS CARTOON FOR YEARS!!! thanks !!!
I love the minimalist, almost Dr. Seuss-like backgrounds from Chuck Jones' 1940's Warner Brothers cartoons. Jones is one of my all-time favorite animation directors.
Wow.
At least 30 years since I've seen it. What a great blast from the past. Thanks! ☺

AMAZZZZING episode !!!
I used to watch it all the time as a kid...
This was always one of my favorite childhood cartoons. Still is, and I'm now 26 years old. Some things never get old, I guess.
Thanks for posting. Was nice to remember the minah bird. Always thought he was cute.
thankyou for posting! a favorite as a kid and im 25!
oh man, that bird kicks soo much butt! i was just talking about this cartoon with my grandma... man, she rocks
The mynah bird would make cameos in the Tiny Toons episode "Buster and the Wolverine" and the Animaniacs Goodfeathers cartoon "Bad Mood Bobby".
7:15 the Minah Bird Smile is so cute
This is a metaphor for humanity, God and the Devil.
I remember this cartoon when I was 4! it was on TV when all you could get was black and white! That was 1957
Just love that Minah Bird!
epic!! I used to wacth this in 1986,,,amazing!!
+fernando cat Watched it in 1965 here. I imagine these have been withdrawn due to "racial content".
well as I can see u are older than me!!! :),,,,But being objective, you really seem to have racist content?,,,,
I may have this on DVD. I love this one! Thanks for posting!

How had I never seen this cartoon? It's gotta be my favorite CJ directedWB short of all time, now!

i am wearing blue socks. I wonder what that means.
I am glad that the university spent resources wisely :)

i like the mynah bird,, they have nailed the part how mynah birds are cheeky, naughty and smart!
This is awesome video...I love it...
I love this version of Hebrides Ovt. It's so sing-songy. Orchestras never reach in to pull out the beat like this cartoon version does.
This was always a favorite of mine when I was a kid, oh, Saturdays where wonderful. But my dad's cousin had a mynah bird that swore like a sailor. Not kosher for a very religious household. God I loved that bird.
Nota "A" (5 estrelas):: SENSACIONAL. É trilegal. 👍👍👍💯💯💯
I like the growling butterfly. The mynah bird is badass. I love how all the animals flee in terror and the trees shake--a horrible growling sound is heard and out pops--this small depressed bird.
Been looking this for ages thank you
I feel so sorry for that lion during this short. He's fantastic.
I can never seem to find a version of Fingal's Cave as good as this one. lol
yo tengo 32 ahora en noviembre y puse esto en mi muro del fb ... he buscado por todos lados al pajaro este y lo encontre al fin jajajaja muuuuy buenos los dibujos WB FTW!
Aaaw i felt sorry for the lion when he began to cry. All he wanted was that steak.
I've been whistling that music for 10 years.. XD
awesome. my parents love this one

Just when me and my brothers watched this cartoon when se were kids!!
Its me or there are more toons with Inki and Minah Bird?
Totally Cool. Chapters from my Childhood Book !!
I LOVEEEEE FINGALS CAVE thanks to the hilarious character of the Mynah Bird
I remember this one, they dont make them like this anymore
because it's racist
Sad but true...So much a part of my childhood-if it weren't such a racist depiction, I'd feel a helluva a lot more nostalgic about it.

HooDatDonDar I don’t think he’s meant to be explained, he’s just there.
Oh my goodness I remember this one..... saw it in the 50's....wow
That's the "Hebrides Overture" by Felix Mendelssohn.

Inki cartoons are the best. Why aren't they shown more often?
I've watched this when I was really little, I used to love the way the Bird threw the Lion into the hay stack and then it shrunk as it rolled a way.
It's my understanding that the animator who worked on the Lion in this cartoon was Shamus Culhane, a maverick in the industry. I saw this when i was like three, and I was so disturbed by it.
Keep your eye on that minah bird he's coming back!
@Imayorkiemom Spot on! I'm 51 and I still watch this one, because it's completely different.
one of my favorite cartoons i never noticed the racism, i noticed the bird and the lion and the music
The child in me still loves the way the Mina Bird is bad news for EVERYBODY, he shows up and just rains destruction in general. He is just FATE, with feathers.
The man in me notes that "Inki" is treated no better or no worse than Sam or Elmer. It doesn't matter if he is black, he get the "treatment" the same as whites in these cartoons.
It's Fingal's Cave Overture. It's on RUclips if you want to listen to the entire thing.
Btw, this cartoon was made in 1943. 1947 was the year of the second-to-last Inki cartoon entitled "Inki at the Circus".
I almost thought I had imagined this. I only remembered the music (from Fingal's Cave) and that black bird walking and hopping. Strange minah bird. Strange idea altogether, but brilliant. There's always a controversy about anything that might be construed as a "black stereotype". I remember seeing this on TV early in the '60s, then it mysteriously disappeared and I thought, no, that's too weird, it COULDN'T have been a cartoon! And here it is. RUclips, you've done it again.

I take offense that Inki was not given a cameo in *Space Jam* as not being a spectator in the according to Porky "Emergency Cartoon Character Union Meeting" or an audience member of the Ultimate Game.
Me too.
You gotta love the Mynah bird, and the weird way he walks.
Bobe Cannon 0:29-2:12 2:47-2:58 4:30-5:50 (I especially love 0:59)
Shamus Culhane 2:12-2:47 2:58-4:30 5:56-7:20
Culhane gets the record, at 3:31 to Cannon's 3:15.
Easy to tell apart, for Jones cartoons.
What I find intriguing about this cartoon is that Chuck is obviously testing Shamus out to see what he was GOOD at. The cartoon is so amorphous and diverse in the middle section Culhane animates (personality, action, setting, etc.) that you could easily see the results... 0.e
I remember mynah. bird being in cartoons without Inki. The two dogs that go into an automated house run into him when he comes out of a magician's hat.
This cartoon is pure mindfuck.
Mynah el pájaro invencible
Love that bird !
I love you, Minah Bird.
This print's blue frame borders in the beginning indicate it's an official print. I guess that's why it's quality is better than other prints.
the best cartoon ever
Minah bird is so badass
He da MAN... errrr da BIRD! The bird is just a black mass of evil that harms everyone he comes into contact with. No wonder the beasts are afraid of him. I like the fact that he plays no favorites, he messes with everyone he comes into contact with.
The tune is "Fingale's Cave" by Mendehlson (my spelling may not be corrent, but I am sure of the title)
According to Reg Hartt (look him up, he's brilliant) Disney once asked Jones what the hell he was trying to say with this cartoon, to which Jones replied, "The fifth dimension". He and Clampett were both secretly very esoteric minds, and that for me is a big part of what makes the Looney Tunes legacy so endlessly fascinating.
And at the end of the cartoon Inki Smile is so cute
Wish I could get a clip with just the bird walking!
😂😂😂😂😂I like Thais cartoon😂😂😂😂
I can confirm that is isn't banned in Canada. It still airs on the retro cartoon network.
I remember this bird =D !
@blaquejaxx yeah i remember it too fo some reason it got stocked in my head forever i loved minah the bird that bird was gangsta neva said a word n d song fingals cave wich is the songs that plays while the bird walks neve got out of my head till this day!!!!
I feel that the Minah bird is, perhaps, the soul of a cursed man who must walk throughout eternity alone and uninhibited. He cannot die, nor may he cease his march toward oblivion.
Yeah, I guess I still feel this way.
