Yeah, here (at least in my state) a meal at a restaurant goes like this: appetizer, entree, dessert. Sometimes it's also called: starter, main course, dessert. It really depends on the restaurant. Also sides are optional most of the time, though there are some restaurants where you have to pick a side, which I always found weird. A lot of places here (especially fast food places) also have self serve soda machines, and you actually can just walk up to it and fill it up as many times as you want. 😅
I don't go to a lot of restaurants though because I can't even be around 99% of foods without having a visceral sensory overload reaction and feeling physically ill 😅
oh yeah, we're all mixed up. like a glittery snowglobe shaken by a hyperactive child.
If you're at a sit-down restaurant, nevermind the self-serve soda fountain. The server comes by every five minutes and refills your drink whether you wanted it or not 😂

As an autistic adhd person in America, I’m so happy we embrace beverages here. On average I have at least 3 different kinds of drinks near me. Diet Coke (for caffeine), water and lemons, and tea. I get thirsty up in herrre. Lol. I used to live in Chitown, it is lit in the summer, I’ve never felt more alive than when I lived in Chicago.
We don’t eat poopoo 😂

Now that I’m awake I might as well chat with you guys. Here it’s also appetizer, entreé and dessert. Also Starter, main and…dessert.
As an Aussie I’d struggle with that
I’m an American and I don’t even understand half this stuff.
Though I enjoy the optional free refill / freedom to mix my soda at the drink machine.
And if you keep the cup you “could” come back and get more later, as they only check that you have the “provided branded cup” my mom would sometimes have us keep our cups for up to a week or two (we’d wash them) and we’d go back to the local place just out of our neighborhood and we’d get free drinks to bring home for movie night.
(Just walk in with empty (insert fast food franchises) cup. Fill it at the machine. Walk out.
= free drink)
Whether or not they let you do this depends on the individual establishment (regardless of if the same franchise let you do it in a different city or state)
Most Wendy’s, McDonald’s, and some gas stations let you do this (at least up to 2019 as I haven’t checked since then. I assume they still do it. Idk)
That's stealing. Nobody "let's" you do it.
@@Slow_Rogan we weren’t exactly secretive about it. A few times the cashier would greet us and give us a knowing smile and nod (the very obvious one that even I can spot) almost like “ha ha, yeah go ahead”
It’s not like we never paid for it. We’d get at most 2 or 3 uses out of each cup. (They don’t last very long anyway, and we didn’t even keep them that long either, more often than not we’d throw them away after the first refill anyway) We were regulars and the staff recognized us.
(And most of the time we wouldn’t even bother doing this anyway. If we bought food, we’d also buy a drink, and if we randomly remembered not to just throw it away (which wasn’t very often) we’d go Friday night, great the cashier, refill the cup (that the staff saw us bring in) say goodbye, and go home and watch a movie.
When we were still figuring out that this was a thing we’d bounce the question off the cashier as we were doing normal business and the consensus we got was that so long as you don’t overly exploit it, it’s generally ok.
We try to be very mindful of the rules. And we don’t steal.
A few times we did sneak our own candy into a movie theater (just because their candy was too expensive)
And after, my family remarked sentiments about excitement, guilt, and “this is as far as we go” in regard to breaking the rules.
We’re very big on not doing anything that would get us in trouble.
We haven’t done this in many years now. As we got too busy to do Friday movie nights. And it was more annoying to save the cups than it was worth. (And we can buy drinks at any of the McDonald’s drive through windows for 1$ each anyway so getting a free refill doesn’t seem as beneficial anymore anyway)
TLDR, they knew we were doing it and it became an inside joke between us and the local Maverik gas station (and the local Wendy’s) and yes we asked before we started doing this.
I remember all this! I went to America when I was twelve - loved it but waitresses would practically force feed me, and acted like I was anorexic. Back in the UK I was known for my *very* big appetite. Also I think it was the only time I ever got sick and tired of cinnamon.
Dont get me started on starbucks drink sizes. 😊
In America the main is called the entree yes and before that is the appetizer. After is dessert.

I too have a funny side which nobody knows: I make my own songs at home with own lyrics. Today I sing my newest piece of art called: My vacuum cleaner, what are you doing now? Truly an amazing song
I guess that in the middle of the misery of being bullyied and harrashed for so many years only my humorous side has saved me from trying to end my life. Jesus and a bit humor can be life-saving
