Thanks for a great video on one of my favorite plants. So far I haven't excelled at planting & harvesting garlic This has shown me what some of my problems may be.
I absolutely love how you went from beginning all the way through the end in different seasons it is nice to find one full video from start to finish. Also awesome you gave a shout out to Luke both of you two are my absolute favorite I learned a lot from you guys. Thank you for all you do it is greatly appreciated.
I do a lot of my own compost, but when I buy bagged I get the Nutrimulch, usually from IFA in Riverton. Miller Blue Ribbon also makes a good organic bagged, they are a local company too. I've bought that at IFA and also at Lowes.
When you say keep your garlic in a cool dark place, what would be the temperature? I live in Arizona and although I use air conditioning in the house a lot of my rooms may not be cool enough especially if I need them in a dark place too.
Do you refrigerate your garlic? I live in North Carolina and my seed garlic is in the fridge to aid vernalization. I plant in late November. I plant mine in grow bags to have softer soil. Ordered garlic from MIGARDENER.
I've seen mixed results from others with containers. They key with containers is you need to be a super attentive gardener. They will need more fertilizer and you will want to watch the water closely.
Yes get them in the ground. Next time don't keep them in the fridge, they need cool and dark for storage, but not COLD which is what you get in a fridge.
Planted my garlic today. Thank you for the tips.
Wonderful!

Great vid... Where do you pick up your compost here in Salt Lake area?

Another awesome video!!! I have a QUESTION??? I live in zone 8b.... When should I plant my garlic??? THANKS
You can wait a bit. After your first frost, but before the ground freezes.
@@StoneyAcresGardening Thanks for your quick response.
Lol. I came here for the same question. I'm in oregon and it can't decide if it's fall or spring. 😂

Around 50 is ideal, but just keep them as cool as you can.
Did you say what NPK fertilizer you would suggest?
In the Fall a good balanced would be fine. For the spring you will want something higher in nitrogen. I usually use Fish Emulsion that is 5-1-1.

We have a long enough winter here that we don't need to worry about putting them in a fridge, they get plenty of vernalization from our cold winter.
Does garlic do well in containers? Zone 6

I put mine in the fridge and it started sprouting should I plant now

Is it ok to plant in the same area as last years garlic area
They are a perennial naturally so shouldn’t be too much of an issue but I am moving some
Crop rotation is always a good idea. Mine are planted in the same spot every 3 years.
QUESTION?.....Acidic or non acidic fertilizer?
Just use something organic, you don't need to worry too much about acidity with garlic.
