Thank you very much for the video. I was worry that i may have to take out the chain to clean up. I have brand new bike hadnt ridden for 1 year. I wad wondering what to do. I will try your method and hopfully it works.
Hey there your using a park tool brush it looks like. I would recommend park tool CB-4 as your drivetrain cleaner. Also you cleaned the mech and the cassett not the chain.
@@adamputu5448 yes technically it’s bike safe… but as a certified bike mechanic I can tell you from experience it does not work the best and can actually ruin a chain

@beluga2857 the normal one is considered a light lubricant, so not really ment for things that spin or rotate a lot (bike chains). But small house hold appliances you can use the normal one.
Use paraffin wax over oil on your chain. It's way cleaner and because it doesn't attract dirt it extends the life of your drive train. I've got 3,000 km on my last chain and I've got thousands left in it. Another bonus is that it's easier to maintain because cleaning is so much easier.
I don't want to ruin a really good mountain bike that's been rusting a little for probably 6 years at my brother's. Let me know if you get a chance and thank you
@@susanmarshall817 There are videos on YT that show you how to clean the oil from your old chain. Once it's clean and dry you soak your chain in melted wax to thoroughly coat it. I will be re-coating mine likely today. Some people like to boil the chain in water to remove the old wax, but I just use a small wire brush. Once that's done I soak in melted wax for a few minutes, wipe off the excess, and then reinstall it. You won't regret it I promise. You will have a nice clean chain in the future that never attracts dirt. It's that dirt BTW that's so hard on your chain and gears. That's why drive trains last so long with wax.
Water will evaporate. However, using degreaser without taking the cassette off first might result in removing the grease that's supposed to lubricate the bearings.
I've used it and can honestly say that it is an amazing product. The problem is the price. I ride a lot and clean my bike a lot. The price stacks in the long run. I've switched to the Zefal degreaser due to this. Not as good but still very good.
Someone mentioned kerosene. I will tell you what. Kerosene will take the linoleum off your floor if you have linoleum tile. Over 25 years ago I had a spill period And I didn't clean underneath the washing machine and it was months before I cleaned under the washing machine and about six came right off the floor
That is the same question I had. Why do I need to remove the grease if it's just the dirt I am worried about? I'm new to all this and nobody ever mentioned why the grease has to be removed
Grease traps sand and dirt and other fine particles. When your drivetrain is black it’s basically sandpaper wearing away the metal. Degrease it to remove the trapped abrasive particles. Then clean it with soap and water to remove the degreaser. Finally reapply fresh chain lube so that now you have grease without any damaging particles.
That’s fine… it’s like a car and oil changes.. why change the dirty oil that lubricates the internals when you can just change the oil filter right ???
It could save you lots of headaches. Just treat your wheels like it was your wife or little girl. It'll respond back with great blessings.. good luck 👍
Ahh no you're wrong on this one we use WD40 to wipe rust off we don't use it to make it rusty😂 i hope your coconut brain will be lubed to understand the mechanics
As long as you dry it then lube it, shouldn't be a problem. I know because modern steel is really durable, I didn't clean my bike and left out in the open and there was barely a rust spot in the chains.
@@luperamos7307 I don't pressure wash my bike and I use soft brush for the frame and suspension and a rougher brush for the drivetrain. I also try to be gentle where I don't water to come in. If the bike not all muddy a spray of water and a wipe will do, don't overwash your bike.
