    After I purchased my Squirrel Stopper System, I was able to put up a lot of different feeders and attract all types of birds. I already had a variety of birds visiting my back yard....well, maybe not as many as you show in your video but I had my fair share. Fortunately, you DO get to see some of what I see by watching this video, which is a better, close-up view than I have through my patio door. Lisa Schumacker me too! It’s so frustrating because I don’t like to do the fence or deck railing thing anymore since I saw a fat rat up there once 😨, so now I HAVE to use the feeders and both the cardinal I’ve been feeding for 3 years and his mate never want to use it. They do sometimes, but not often, and it’s really frustrating cuz today for instance it’s -10 and snowing like crazy, and I went outside to put food out before the snow so my birds would have calories and be warmer, anyway, the cardinals came first thing in the morning, as usual they were the first and only birds there and had the feeder all to themselves with a mountain of seeds, and they did the high pitch feeding chirp like 3-4 times and then left, then came back and left again. 5 minutes later all the other birds came and then the squirrels came and all the foods gone and it’s snowing now. So I look outside and the cardinals are in the tree looking sad cuz there’s no food. I couldn’t even do the railing/fence thing now cuz it would be covered in snow again before the cardinals got there

    That gets me excited for winter, I am in northern Indiana, so I see the same birds. I do have a live trap that gets House Sparrows as they are invasive. It is a Deluxe Revolving Sparrow Trap if you are interested. I have got a better diversity of birds around my area by eliminating these pest birds. Hope others do the same!

    • @creatorwise
      @creatorwise  10 лет назад +1

      Thanks, steve, for watching and commenting. Just curious, what do you do with the sparrows after you catch them? Release them a few miles away?

    • @stevekiermaier5384
      @stevekiermaier5384 10 лет назад +3

      creatorwise No problem. Since the House Sparrow is invasive I kill them and the local raptor rehab gladly excepts them. I know it sounds harsh but they do not belong here and can outcompete and kill native birds. I been into bird watching my whole life and hope to have a career in Ornithology once I finish up college. I have noticed a better variety of birds at my feeders by taking care of these pesty birds.

    • @mitzibright5206
      @mitzibright5206 9 лет назад +1

      steve kiermaier HOSP regularly kill native species in my neighborhood and I've tried many things to scare them off, but they're so clever, they've even figured out how to get in the nest box holes that are supposed to be too small & killed "my" house wren 2 years ago, that really broke my heart. They are so territorial, they just killed the wren for being in the area they dominated. I like the idea of donating them to the raptor center. I've had to seriously cut back my bird feeding b/c they are so out of control; had to stop for a while after I got starlings, that was really too bad. I bought a sound device that made a starling distress call that scared off starlings but didn't want to annoy my neighbors too much!

    • @stevekiermaier5384
      @stevekiermaier5384 9 лет назад +1

      Mitzi Dharma
      I would highly recommend getting the Deluxe Repeating Sparrow Trap. It can get both Starling and Sparrow and if any native birds got in you can release them. I am enjoying watching all native birds coming to my birders and not seeing a single Starling since last winter and only a few sparrows here and there, usually always getting them if they do come here. Good luck !

    • @agentfungus9742
      @agentfungus9742 9 лет назад +1

      steve: Thanks for info about the trap. I'm assuming I'd be able to find it online? I live in the city and the "English Sparrows" are awful. They mob the feeders, toss the seed (at least the juncos eat the ground seed,) attack other birds, kill native birds, prevent wrens and chickadees from taking care of their babies, toss baby birds out of their nests, etc. I love it when the Coopers hawks harass them. Unfortunately, the slower mourning doves usually end up being lunch. :(

    • @creatorwise
      @creatorwise  8 лет назад

      +Albury Smith LOL! Yes we have lots of squirrels here. Check out my companion video: ruclips.net/video/oGe51NXXmgE/видео.html Fast forward to the final minute. Also see my vid: Circus Squirrel Antics. They must have been taking a siesta, or they may have been feeding on the ground under the feeder at this time. I do spend a lot of time chasing them off my feeder. :-)

    • @AIbury1
      @AIbury1 8 лет назад

      +creatorwise Our southeastern PA squirrels NEVER take a siesta, but nine 5" diameter, 2-foot long, 24 gauge stove pipes wrapped around the three 4 X 4 posts bearing my BIRD feeders have finally dissuaded them from climbing up and stealing all of the food, and I now have a somewhat disgruntled (but apparently resigned) ground-feeding squirrel community and much more songbird action. I enjoy all of your beautiful visitors every day, but haven't seen that many cardinals at the same time. My favorites here are the Carolina wrens, downy woodpeckers, and red-bellied woodpeckers on the suet feeders, and the white-breasted nuthatches viewing the world upside-down in quick bursts.

    • @creatorwise
      @creatorwise  8 лет назад

      +Albury Smith Would've loved to have seen those squirrels trying to climb the stove pipes when you first wrapped them around the 4 x 4s. LOL. I used to think squirrels and raccoons were cute critters till I started feeding the birds a few years ago. What pests they are now. I love our cardinals but have not seen as many since this vid. You also have a great variety of my favorites too. Thanks for your fine comments.

      +creatorwise There were 3 churches and a synagogue in a small Ohio town: a Baptist church, a Methodist church, a Catholic church and a Jewish synagogue. Each church and the synagogue had a problem with squirrels
      At the Baptist church the squirrels had taken an interest in the baptistery. The deacons met and decided to put a water slide on the baptistery and let the squirrels drown themselves. The squirrels liked the slide and unfortunately knew instinctively how to swim, so twice as many squirrels showed up the following week.
      The Methodist church decided that they were not in a position to harm any of God's creatures, so they humanely trapped their squirrels and set them free near the Baptist Church. Two weeks later the squirrels were back when the Baptists took down the water slide.
      The Catholic church came up with a very creative strategy-they baptized all the squirrels and consecrated them as members of the church. Now they only see them on Christmas and Easter.
      Not much was heard from the synagogue, but it's rumored that they took one squirrel and circumcised him, and haven't seen a squirrel on their property ever since.
